I know what you’re thinking, let’s hope we get more exciting January signings like Pawel Brozek, Rabiu Ibrahim and Freddie Ljungberg.
It’s slightly unfair to mock our January transfer business. Kris Commons arrived two years ago and constituted a one man title challenge for a few months (and still delights). Georgios Samaras and Barry Robson arrived in 2008 and went a long way to ensuring the title came to Celtic. We went signing crazy in January (and 1st Feb) 2010 when Robbie Keane, Diomansy Kamara and soon-to-be World Cup final legend…. Edson Braafheid arrived. Robbie proved his class but it was all in vain, alas.
Most of our worries seem to be focussed on protecting those already in the squad. I’m not too concerned one way or another for the Juventus tie, which will take care of itself, but decisions made today will need to consider the Champions League qualifier challenges we will face in August. If we sell Gary Hooper today there is no guarantee we will be able to recruit his replacement until the final gasp of the August window.
So far this month we have addressed long-term strategy and short-term cover, if we do any more business I’d be happy with more of the same.
Contrary to career expectations 29-year-old Edson Braafheid is not now a delivery driver for Argos but he’s not playing a lot of football these days either.
If the server overheats later I’m on Twitter, @CQN, and I’ll do my best to figure out Facebook, CQN Magazine, too.

Paul… The American striker and barbosa could still end up here mInutes before the window shuts , both holding clubs know they can accept a really cut price deal or lose them to us for nothing in the summer

I agree. The financial model down there makes the drop in income between Championship/PL so vast that chairmen are so terrified of the drop that they consent to eye-watering losses year on year so that they stay in the league and, well, continue to make ey-watering losses because the cost of staying up rises year on year.
This fuels deficit spending, creating a distortion in the value of transfers and wages such that a bubble begins to grow. This “bubble effect” values Christopher Samba’s contirbution to revenue generation at £12.5 million plus £100k wages for four years. Is the difference in QPR’s revenue generation created by his contribution likely to top the amount they spend on him, even if they stay up? No. This dis-connect will lead to a huge crash in years to come.

Para 98 of the Majority verdict: In instances where disablement insurance had been negotiated for players, the amount of cover tended to include both direct wage
payments and payments into trust.
and
Para 123 of the dissenting view: The insurance claim by Rangers for Mr Evesham’s injury was met by payments that calculated Mr Evesham’s earnings as inclusive of the trust payments due to him under the terms of his side-letter.
Does that help any?

Its crazy gerry and they know it. the size of the relegation parachutes alone are frightening. 40m + for being the worst team in the league is not a good business model in any industry.

Hope you have a tonne of cheese to go with all yon wine
I was just wondering there about the desolate huns…how do huns spend January transfer deadline day?
Any huns in the house?
What do yous do?
No Montrose players in the Scotland squad then?
I think we will bring in the Swedish GK and that will be business done.
Keep the Faith!
Hail! Hail!
What makes anyone think that if Nimmo does deliver a guilty verdict (which i doubt) this will change anything, they have died and are still the exact same they were, apart from us and GG everyone else seems to be ok with it. As long as anything to do with them is done in scotland it will be a rigged game as far as i’m concerned and with good reason.

Probably all over any Celtic news like the zombie cockroaches that they are.
I can just imagine them now with their bitter, beady zombie eyes…reading all about Celtic,as per usual.
Jealous huns.
16 roads they are probably watching re runs of our no show on Sunday as a crumb of comfort.

I am aware that the FTTT, particularly in the minority opinion, gave consideration to the insurance arrangements and had regard to how those illuminated the reality of the EBT arrangemebnts in cumulo (ie payments or loans).
However, it is but one factor in this determination. It would be possible for celtic, for instance, to purchase an insurance policy providing that Gary Hooper’s salary would be paid in the event of his injury, plus a certain fee (lump sum or increment) relating to the profit Celtic expected to derive from his endeavours on the field until such times as he was able to play again. What I am saying is that the correlation between Evesham’s insurance pay-out and his “cumulative benefits” may be co-incidental, and is not necessarily determinative of the “payment or loan” issue. I agree with you that this near exact correlation would be some coincidence! Particularly this is so if the phenomenon was noted in respect of many other players. However, it is but illustrative, not determinative, in my opinion.
