Jockeying for FTT already done

735

Following RangersTaxCase’s information that Rangers-HMRC First Tier Tribunal report was in the hands of both parties’ solicitors on Friday, I subsequently heard the report runs to in excess of 300 pages.  It will be published by the court authorities in due course but I don’t expect anything this week.  Any attempt to spin or release excerpts from the report could be considered contempt so it is likely that we will hear nothing formally until then.

Once the report goes live you can expect an already-prepared summary with plenty of focus on what the FTT denied HMRC.  HMRC will not achieve a clean sweep, some matters were dealt with correctly, but there will be no surprises on these pages for the thrust of the findings.

I’m looking forward to an entertaining and final dose of bombast from one of the parties, hopefully in keeping with some of the all-time favourites from March 2000, “Rangers are moving on to another level from the rest of Scottish football”, “the Glasgow giants are setting an agenda that no other Scottish club can match”.

That famous article in The Herald asserts “The Ibrox chairman [Sir David Murray] has spent several months and many sleepless nights piecing together the plans which will eliminate Rangers”.

It does, of course, insert the word “debt” into the end of that sentence but sometimes fewer words paint a more accurate picture.  While we’re on a related subject, well done to Sports Direct FC for reaching the summit of the Third Division on goal difference.  That manager’s definitely worth keeping. Ashley’s money is being wisely spent.

I’m not confident about winning but I think we’ll score.

As long as we give a good account of ourselves I’ll be happy.

I found it hilarious that the dr stopped ‘comments’ on their articles ……… Talk about trying to hide the truth …… But the truth will not hide…….not when greengo tells the World about the death threats etc …… Silly media…

I remember England’s finest commentator and Kenneth Wolstenholme’s unbridled neutral independent joy on 25/5/67

In fact, I’d bet more Celtic fans listened live to him than Alex Cameron on STV

‘I used to debate this long and hard with a Welsh colleague. He accepted Scotland having its own media was one of the reasons we had more devolved powers than Wales.’

That is twp, as the Welsh would say.

One isn’t a consequence of the other. They are both consequences of other factors.

Scotland has/had its own media for the same reasons that it has more devolved powers namely that Scotland, entered into a union with England much later and when doing so retained its own legal system. That meant that for the duration where circumstances required it Scotland had its own legislation, allowing differences to continue.

Culturally though I’ve always felt that there was more unity between England and Scotland than between England and Wales. It’s almost as though the Welsh felt they needed to assert their culture to avoid it being lost, whereas the Scots, being more self assured were more relaxed about it.

  6. For all Irish Tims who can’t make it over to Barca this evening, the match is on Setanta Ireland as well as Sky Sports. I really actually enjoyed Setanta’s CL coverage of the Spartak game and not just because we won. David Speedie , who now lives in Dublin, was co -commentating and was well up for us and made some insightful comments. He also gave the ref pelters and rightly so. He did let me down at one stage though when he commented that he thought Rangers had been hounded out of the SPL. That aside, I’m hoping he’ll be co-commentating tonight instead of Lou Macari. Lou’s heart is in the right place but some of his comments are just mental.

  7. Excited about the game, but can’t share some of the optimism i’m afraid. We are playing the best side of all time IMO,they have a few injuries at the back but middle to front is incomparable. We need to keep our shape and track the runners, biggest worry is the gap between midfield and defence, that’s where Barca come to life.I think we will all feel enormous pride when the bhoys stand on that pitch and hear the CL music.Good luck bhoys.

    Morning,all.

If you would like to flick back to the first page of the blog, you will find a post from THE BARCA MOLE in which he interviews Joe McBride and Dixie Dans.

Very good reading, and a pleasure to discover how modest these legends are, despite their achievements.

Compare and contrast with Charliebhoy’s blowhard interview in today’s Sun.

    Absolutely nauseating stuff……

Happy to confirm I’m not from Sevconia!! No way of proving that of course except that voguepunter should be able to confirm that the fine establishment he frequents won the Bobby Murdoch memorial cup last week in a charity tournament for the kilbryde hospice.

I only know this because I happened to be playing for the winning side!

I seem to recall Lou Macari(when he was Celtic boss) being on the STV’s

Sport In Question program chaired by Archie MacPherson. LM was joined by huns legal-eagle Donald Findlay amongst others. Anyway….this was screened in the build-up to the game were Celtic fans were banned from ibrokes by SDM and, DF said that – “If Celtic put down £200k insurance for the damage to any seats then, Celtic’s fans will be allowed into ibrokes for that game !!!”

LM warned DF that – ” Having been told that ibrokes boasts a Fort-Knox type of security and, still there are claims that seats are damaged then, with strong headed new club owner Fergus McCann now in charge of Celtic then, there would be NO insurance money paid by the club so we’ll go there with our fans banned. But, be prepared for your fans(the huns) being banned from Celtic park next season !!!”

Needless to say….a hurried SFA meeting was carried out before the week was finished to vote in a NEW Rule that – NO away fans to be banned from stadiums ever again in Scottish football ?!?!?

I still can’t decide – did we get rid of LM too early ?

Or, did we bring in TB too early ?

When you consider that – Macari took a team of no-hopers to ibrokes twice and – rattled the cage of Walters galactico’s . Macari had Walters number and was wanting totool-up for the fight the next season. I’m also led to believe that, Macari was going to make John Collins our new captain after JC’s performance and, the way he led our team at ibrokes with no Celtic fans, and allow the Maestro to do what he did best.

    Anyway…off oot again.

    Bye.

    Hail Hail
