Jockeying for FTT already done

735

Following RangersTaxCase’s information that Rangers-HMRC First Tier Tribunal report was in the hands of both parties’ solicitors on Friday, I subsequently heard the report runs to in excess of 300 pages.  It will be published by the court authorities in due course but I don’t expect anything this week.  Any attempt to spin or release excerpts from the report could be considered contempt so it is likely that we will hear nothing formally until then.

Once the report goes live you can expect an already-prepared summary with plenty of focus on what the FTT denied HMRC.  HMRC will not achieve a clean sweep, some matters were dealt with correctly, but there will be no surprises on these pages for the thrust of the findings.

I’m looking forward to an entertaining and final dose of bombast from one of the parties, hopefully in keeping with some of the all-time favourites from March 2000, “Rangers are moving on to another level from the rest of Scottish football”, “the Glasgow giants are setting an agenda that no other Scottish club can match”.

That famous article in The Herald asserts “The Ibrox chairman [Sir David Murray] has spent several months and many sleepless nights piecing together the plans which will eliminate Rangers”.

It does, of course, insert the word “debt” into the end of that sentence but sometimes fewer words paint a more accurate picture.  While we’re on a related subject, well done to Sports Direct FC for reaching the summit of the Third Division on goal difference.  That manager’s definitely worth keeping. Ashley’s money is being wisely spent.

  1. Mind you, they could always have sold some players.

Hahahahahahahaha, imagine the guys struggling against Stirling, Berwick et al playing in the SPL.

    My thoughts, exactly.

I mean, what sort of Dad goes out and plays football when his partner’s about to give birth … ?

I did not know until recently that a wean was due so I am not sure if wee Thiago has arrived yet.

It would be a great benefit for Celtic if the wee genius missed this match but I cannot see that happening.

I haven’t read anything about baby Messi having arrived so assume not.

But while looking, i read that lance Armstrong may now face jail for perjury having declared on oath in court that he’d never used doping

  5. Well this is the day. Our young bhoys in one of football’s great arenas against one of the best club sides ever. Yes, we will probably lose but you never know. And how great is it that we are part of such a massive occasion?

Roll on kick off. The bhoys are back in town.

Why are we wanting Messi to miss the game?

Best of luck to him with his bairn obv.

But I want to see our bhoys play him.

I want us to come up against the best and even if we get roundly beaten I want us to learn from it and grow as players.

No Pressure on the team tonight, lets see what they can do.

And without Messi they are still world class, so lets play them at their best and gauge our level

  7. The rain and thunderstorms of last weekend have passed and its glorious day here in Barcelona. For any tim based here, this is a wonderful occasion. By the looks of the festivities yesterday, there will be a lot of score heads today.

I am delighted to say, I am going to the game in amongst my fellow Celtic fans.

From chatting to fans last night and from reading the blog today, there seems to be a degree of confidence about the game. For me, it’s a tough ask.

My team for what it is worth:

    ………..Forester…………

    Lustig…Ambrose…Wilson…Izzy

    ….Vic…Ledley…Mulgrew…

    …Brown/Commons…Sammy…

    ………Hooper…………

Probably Brown over Commons but not too sure about it.

Dirtymac- ‘In those two years, Rangers played Champions League football in front of 255,000 punters’

Please try and keep up. This season the Galcto-diddies have paraded their sumptuous skills in front of 255,000,000 punters in SFLDiv3.

Do you not follow follow the MSM?

Read posts and made them myself about the precedent set in the Lance Armstrong case but in the guns case there’s no need to look for precedents, follow the rules and do the right thing, strip, reassign, punish and make allowance for financial compensation claims, whoever plays at the midden take a percentage of the season book sales off them for so many years,if incorporation, liquidation and mortality doesn’t mean anything to them over there then take the fans money off them if they believe they are paying for the same thing.

Fog back home ? Off down to Icaria beach for a few hours now the sun is out, then Placa de catalunya for some pre match fun.

Hopefully Messi will be playing, don’t want any excuses from Barcelona.

  12. I dream a green and white hoops dream. Barcelona 1 – Celtic 2 . Hooper and Samaras.

Nothing to lose everything to gain and this group of young lions are up for it.

All the bhoys and ghirls in La Ramble enjoy everything.

  14. With the judgement apparently imminent on TBC,the reaction from the fans of the club now in liquidation is,even by there standards, pretty incredible.Despite being told repeatedly, that the tax bill has no bearing on the hearing by lord Nimmo Smith, they still bleat there innocence to the heavens, in effect, they could be cleared of all the charges and found to owe hector nothing, that still does not exonerate them from the crime of incorrectly registering players, how can something be so simple to understand to the average onlooker yet,so unfathomable to orcs?.If it does come down to title stripping(,the only fair outcome IMHO),I remain very interested in how the club now using the old clubs name will react, perhaps the SFA could meet them in secret, and ask them which punishment they will accept, that seems to standard practice in these circumstances, after all, they managed to negotiate a transfer ban which, despite all the drivel written to the contrary, does not even encapsulate one full season, how the powers that be can hold their heads high over this fiasco is completely beyond my reckoning.

  15. No word on baby Messi as far as I can see.

The most important thing there is that the baby should arrive safely and that the mother should be well, please God.

  16. Morning from a mild, fresh Chilterns….

Good luck to the bhoys in Barcelona – This is a great squad Neil has put together, they are learning and bonding all the time, are we ready to stand on the Nou Camp pitch as footballing equals to Barca this evening, no, not yet but it’s the indomitable attitude of this team I love.

Should be a cracking match, I’m quietly confident we will get something out of this double header, I’m just going to fretfully enjoy the Football and wait for the moment.

He says when he was growing up there was a fair amount of anti-RC sentiment amongst the English landed gentry, which he is reflecting in the current storyline about the baptism of the late Lady Sybil’s bairn.

I have to watch it on Sunday night or I don’t get any supper.

On the game tonight as others have said as long as we learn from it and enjoy the experience that’ll be fine by me,a draw would be unbelievable.

  21. Lance Armstrong should have to repay his Tour de France winnings after being stripped of his seven titles, says race director Christian Prudhomme.

The International Cycling Union stripped Armstrong of his results since 1 August 1998 after ratifying a US Anti-Doping Agency report on him.

Tour director Prudhomme called the UCI’s decision “totally logical”.

And he added: “The UCI rules are clear. When a rider is disqualified, he must pay the prize money back.”

  23. Had a very vivid dream last night that Scott Brown scored with a rasping left foot shot into the bottom corner on the stroke of half time to leave us 2-1 down at half time. Later on in my dream Celtic had fought back from 5-1 down to 5-3 and there were 10 mins left when my alarm went off.

  24. Far from official, but El Mundo Deportivo has Marc Bartra making his debut in central defence for Barcelona. Very interesting.

He might be magic, but it’s taking a chance. And he will never have encountered anything like Hoops, Sami, Vic, and all our big ghuys coming up for set pieces in his puff.
