Jockeying for FTT already done

735

Following RangersTaxCase’s information that Rangers-HMRC First Tier Tribunal report was in the hands of both parties’ solicitors on Friday, I subsequently heard the report runs to in excess of 300 pages.  It will be published by the court authorities in due course but I don’t expect anything this week.  Any attempt to spin or release excerpts from the report could be considered contempt so it is likely that we will hear nothing formally until then.

Once the report goes live you can expect an already-prepared summary with plenty of focus on what the FTT denied HMRC.  HMRC will not achieve a clean sweep, some matters were dealt with correctly, but there will be no surprises on these pages for the thrust of the findings.

I’m looking forward to an entertaining and final dose of bombast from one of the parties, hopefully in keeping with some of the all-time favourites from March 2000, “Rangers are moving on to another level from the rest of Scottish football”, “the Glasgow giants are setting an agenda that no other Scottish club can match”.

That famous article in The Herald asserts “The Ibrox chairman [Sir David Murray] has spent several months and many sleepless nights piecing together the plans which will eliminate Rangers”.

It does, of course, insert the word “debt” into the end of that sentence but sometimes fewer words paint a more accurate picture.  While we’re on a related subject, well done to Sports Direct FC for reaching the summit of the Third Division on goal difference.  That manager’s definitely worth keeping. Ashley’s money is being wisely spent.

I am not Wilson’s biggest fan – but I worry about the reshuffle if he is out. Charlie is a more than competent at CB – however he is not comfortable when the ball is being played around his feet (likewise Rogne).

The key to this game (for us) is when the ball breaks off/ out from our back 4 – how we best make use of it. We have the midfielders who can handle robust tackling and lay off the ball – however Barca will be more inclined to adopt instant close-down and a go on – make a pass attitude. Ledley/ Commons or Commons/ Ledley – 2 players but unfortunately one role.

From time to time we will have one ball – 75 yards to cover: Sammi (supported by Izzy)? Hooper – means a lay-back/ lay-off? Broony/ Forrest drive – but don’t guarantee an end-product. IMO – can’t see Kayal getting a start.

Benfica were very good at CP at anticipating forward passes and cutting them out without resorting to tackling.

Our more forward minded player, Comons, Izzy and Brown, lost a lot of possession that night and will be aware of that danger. The biggest argument for Charlie at CB is that we are more likely to score from counter attack than from corners or free kicks, I fear (see Andy Roxburgh stats fom UEFA on CL goal). Charlie plays a better ball out of defence.

I’ll still panic whenever I see Messi attack any one of our players. But it’s a privilege to have earned the right to panic.

  7. I don’t normally do this, but I have a selection suggestion.

If Kelvin Wilson is fit, Charlie M can play at left back and Emilio can play in a central position. He’s the same size as Adriano and Mascherano.

I don’t know enough to know if this would work, but Lenny will. Expect a tactical masterstroke.

  8. I mean Efe, Kelvin and Emilio in the centre. The three of them.

Sami, Joe, Broony and Victor in the midfield and Hoops up front.

TootingTim , can you drop me a line please ?

  10. If we are behind by a goal or even two with ten minutes to go, we can change it and have a go.

Barcelona are very good at defending a lead by keeping the ball and attacking, but if we are within touching distance, we can have a go. It will be fun.

From memory it was Gordon Brown in his resignation honours list.

This was after Paisley had stood down from Parliament and the NI assembly.

Martin McGuiness, a well known Irish republican, presented Paisley with two hand written poems on his retrial from politics. By all accounts they got on very well together.

I have to say though I fail to see the relevance of the matter in considering the anti Irish Catholic roots and heritage of the SNP.

You still haven’t told your fellow nat which SNP leader said this.

“Wheresoever knives and razors are used, wheresoever sneak thefts and petty pilfering are easy and safe, wheresoever dirty acts of sexual baseness are committed, there you will find the Irishman in Scotland with all but a monopoly.”

Speculation on my part – though I think this is not a game for Commons.

Full backs – apart from; TG/ JC/ DMcG – always had a soft spot for Tosh and mad Mahe!

  13. So Labour made Rev. Ian Paisley a peer.

Thanks for that. I’ll remember that the next time I’m voting.

Do you think the unionist’s will make his new friend Martin McGuiness a peer as well? :-)

You hit the nail right on the head about both of those tirades by Ken Gallacher. I well remember the rant about Fergus trying to get a transfer fee out of Monaco for John Collins on the basis that Monaco was not a part of France – just a principality whose football team played in the French League and that they should be liable to pay for Collins. This was absolutely ridiculed by Gallacher and he described Fergus’s action as ‘an embarrasment.’

He showed his true colours and you are perfectly right that at the time he was totally obsequios towards Murray and RFC. How can we ever forget his ramblings about “Mr. Murray’s private Lear jet” which he managed to mention in every other article he wrote.

I actually thought that KG was on the sauce when he wrote the Fergus/Collins/Monaco article such was his lack of restraint.

I would love to read it again if anyone can source it.

I’m no expert in shares, but thought the shares listed would have ‘disappeared’ when oldco ‘disappeared’ ?…… If they are, in fact, now with the this ‘other’ club, then so, surely, should the creditor’s debt be transferred to them..? …… can someone clarify for me, please…??

Not knowing Martin McGuiness personally I couldn’t comment.

  18. extracts from Gallacher:

Monaco, I understand, are being supported by both UEFA and FIFA in this latest hassle in which Celtic have become involved…

[the other one was Alan Stubbs transfer from Bolton – some nonsense about an unlicensed agent]

…This time, the Collins deal will stand, and Celtic will not get the money they are looking for. Instead, they will lose face in the international football community once more.

“Wheresoever knives and razors are used, wheresoever sneak thefts and petty pilfering are easy and safe, wheresoever dirty acts of sexual baseness are committed, there you will find the Irishman in Scotland with all but a monopoly.”

And for a party whose current leader referred to the people of NI as ‘blood of our blood, bone of our bone’.

And we all know what he meant by that.

No wonder he wants to save the huns.

It the Celtic game on t.v tomorrow night?

Answer yet again is No unless you have sky T.V

Now before I keep going, I have sky but I’m sick of English side being on S.T.V

When Celtic are playing in Europe.

I’m sick of paying a T.V licence to watch match of the day and match of the day2 pay out

Heaps of cash to pundits and new studios while we get 30 of scottish football from the BBC Scotland broom closet.

    Trident? ffs!

Boris Johnstone as PM? imagine that! It doesn’t matter what we Scots think, if England want Boris as PM then that’s who we get. That ain’t right.
