Jockeying for FTT already done

735

Following RangersTaxCase’s information that Rangers-HMRC First Tier Tribunal report was in the hands of both parties’ solicitors on Friday, I subsequently heard the report runs to in excess of 300 pages.  It will be published by the court authorities in due course but I don’t expect anything this week.  Any attempt to spin or release excerpts from the report could be considered contempt so it is likely that we will hear nothing formally until then.

Once the report goes live you can expect an already-prepared summary with plenty of focus on what the FTT denied HMRC.  HMRC will not achieve a clean sweep, some matters were dealt with correctly, but there will be no surprises on these pages for the thrust of the findings.

I’m looking forward to an entertaining and final dose of bombast from one of the parties, hopefully in keeping with some of the all-time favourites from March 2000, “Rangers are moving on to another level from the rest of Scottish football”, “the Glasgow giants are setting an agenda that no other Scottish club can match”.

That famous article in The Herald asserts “The Ibrox chairman [Sir David Murray] has spent several months and many sleepless nights piecing together the plans which will eliminate Rangers”.

It does, of course, insert the word “debt” into the end of that sentence but sometimes fewer words paint a more accurate picture.  While we’re on a related subject, well done to Sports Direct FC for reaching the summit of the Third Division on goal difference.  That manager’s definitely worth keeping. Ashley’s money is being wisely spent.

First post after lengthy wait for password. I’d bite my arm off for a draw tomorrow night. As long as we give a a good account of ourselves on and off the park. Hail Hail.

Very much doubt Mathews will start – very little game time past month.

Agree with you re: Charlie – why I would put Izzy in front of him – he loses out – Charlie has to deal with the threat but Izzy has the recovery ability to get back behind him.

Can’t see Kayal starting – lack of game time/ too rash (free-kicks) .v. small ball-holding players – over commits (ends up on deck) and can’t track-back.

We need 11 players who can stay on their feet – unless fouled.

While various existing codes have some differences, most share common elements including the principles of — truthfulness, accuracy, objectivity, impartiality, fairness and public accountability — as these apply to the acquisition of newsworthy information and its subsequent dissemination to the public.

Charlie is probably best suited to the left side CB role so, by default he gets the nod over Mikel.

We really need two CBs like Bobby Moore and Willie Miller to defend the types of attacks Barca mount but Charlie will get some cover and double teaming as a CB. As a less mobile FB he can get exposed and rounded. His recovery pace is not great.

Cannae wait to see our team really tested.

Armstrong justice must be replicated in the oldco case ………. What will be REALLY interesting will be those discovered to have colluded / turned a blind eye outwith the club who cheated Scottish Football for 10+ years ……. Scottish Sport / justice will be under scrutiny for the foreseeable future……I am actually confident that Justice will prevail…..

  7. One of the things that really impressed me at the Spartak game was the way Lenny used the resources available to him to exploit them being a man down. (Something Depotivo failed to do at the weekend)

We will score tomorrow. Only question is will it be more than them?

  8. SFTB,

My line up would be very similar to yours.

The bit that concerns me is our bigger defenders Wilson / Lustig conceding free kicks / possible penalties as they tackle guys who are 5″ or 6″ smaller. The tackle may be fair, but the ref can be easily conned

My only change , would be to include Charlie as , first , I think his concentration is better than Kelvin, and, second he can play the ball into the channels for Sammy and Hoops to chase. Even better if we can get the Barca defenders facing their own goals and thus conceding throw ins, which we need to let Adam take and treat like a corner.

  9. My Dear Kojo….

I am delighted that you are again labelling Joe Deadly as ‘diffident’….

And suggesting that he should be dropped….

I recall that last time you made similar comments before a big match….

Joe Deadley played a ‘blinder’,and scored the winner….

So , hopefully you are “Workin’ Your Mojo” again…?

We need small mobile players who will snap and harry so I would include Scott and Beram even though they do invite bookings. To be honest, all our players will have to look out for their approach to tackling as Barca are good at playing refs too.

If Scott, Vic, Joe or Beram pick up bookings we will need to consider midfield subs like Commons and Forrest or even bring Charlie, if he is unbooked, forward and replace with Rogne or Lustig behind.

Wrong decade. How come nats know nothing about the history of the SNP? Just like they invariably spell independence incorrectly? What is that all about?

I’m not aware of the Labour Party or the ILP showing signs of xenophobia at that time. Are you sure that’s the word you want?

I know that the original SPL, the Scottish Protestant League, used to complain about the Labour Party being controlled by Catholics. I think you must be getting confused.

Not to worry. Maybe you could tell your fellow nat which of the SNP’s leaders is responsible for the quote.

“Wheresoever knives and razors are used, wheresoever sneak thefts and petty pilfering are easy and safe, wheresoever dirty acts of sexual baseness are committed, there you will find the Irishman in Scotland with all but a monopoly.”

SFTB – Commons has been our best player so far this season and should start. We need Sami and Hoops as well, so that limits the amount of midfield slots.

Brown will start and IMHO Wanyama/Ledley is our best centre mid pairing. Vic will need to be careful to avoid two yellows, he’ll get one for sure! Beram isn’t match fit and would definately get booked….he’s also poor at tracking midfield runs into our box, which further exposes our defenders.

I agree with you about the FB’s and would risk Lustig alongside Ambrose.

    Exciting isn’t it ! :-)
