Jockeying for FTT already done

735

Following RangersTaxCase’s information that Rangers-HMRC First Tier Tribunal report was in the hands of both parties’ solicitors on Friday, I subsequently heard the report runs to in excess of 300 pages.  It will be published by the court authorities in due course but I don’t expect anything this week.  Any attempt to spin or release excerpts from the report could be considered contempt so it is likely that we will hear nothing formally until then.

Once the report goes live you can expect an already-prepared summary with plenty of focus on what the FTT denied HMRC.  HMRC will not achieve a clean sweep, some matters were dealt with correctly, but there will be no surprises on these pages for the thrust of the findings.

I’m looking forward to an entertaining and final dose of bombast from one of the parties, hopefully in keeping with some of the all-time favourites from March 2000, “Rangers are moving on to another level from the rest of Scottish football”, “the Glasgow giants are setting an agenda that no other Scottish club can match”.

That famous article in The Herald asserts “The Ibrox chairman [Sir David Murray] has spent several months and many sleepless nights piecing together the plans which will eliminate Rangers”.

It does, of course, insert the word “debt” into the end of that sentence but sometimes fewer words paint a more accurate picture.  While we’re on a related subject, well done to Sports Direct FC for reaching the summit of the Third Division on goal difference.  That manager’s definitely worth keeping. Ashley’s money is being wisely spent.

  3. Don’t believe it! Had managed to get out of a weekly 1-3pm (7-9pm Glasgow time) meeting only to just get an email from my boss’s boss saying “i see you are free tomorrow at one please join our ………………….meeting from 1-3 to………..” Arrrrrrrghhhhhh! He may be from Alabama but I’m sure he’s a hun!

Alabama and Ibrox, similar I suppose in so much as they both share a gene cup rather than a gene pool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Richard Wilsons article in Herald is unbelievable. He argues that RFC may have traded out if the BTC but were unable to do this because HMRC demanded the full amount possible. He ignores the shameful inaction of Murray Bain etc in not cutting cloth once the BTC hit. This would have weakened the team but almost certainly have saved the club. Their refusal to make contingency for the BTC is one of the most damaging decisions they made.

    Good morning CQNers,

Tonight I believe we have our best chance of upsetting the odds and coming away with at least a point.

I’m not deluding myself and I know we’re playing arguably the best football team in the world but Barca’s lack of height and their susceptibility to the quick counter attack give us a chance, a punchers chance, but a chance nonetheless.

On another topic entirely, over the next few days 21 million households in England and Wales have, or will receive a leaflet explaining the elections for the new Police and Crime Commissioners.

This is from the same government that limits the number of continence pads an elderly patient can have daily but they can find funds for a whole new level of bureaucratic nonsense in their political manoeuvrings , it’d be funny if it wasn’t so serious.

Get work out the way and sit back and enjoy it.

My £1 bet is on 3-2 for Celtic. We will leak goals and we will score them.

If Messi doesn’t play I have no worries about getting at least a draw.

100/1 for the punt with Hills.

Celtic to win both halves is 475/1 with Paddy Power! Now that’s a bet

They all predicted celtic to finish last.

  23. The record attendance for a Junior Cup Final in Scotland is 77,650 for the 1951 final between Petershill and Irvine Meadow XI.

  24. Not only stripped titles, now money being demanded

A Texas insurance company is demanding the return of $7.5m (£4.7m) in bonuses from cyclist Lance Armstrong.

SCA Promotions covered a performance bonus paid to the American after he won his sixth Tour de France in 2004.

Now that the International Cycling Union (UCI) has stripped Armstrong of his seven Tour titles, SCA will demand the money back from Armstrong.

SCA’s lawyer Jeffrey M. Tillotson told BBC Sport: “We will make a formal demand for return of funds.”

He added: “If this is not successful, we will initiate formal legal proceedings against Mr Armstrong in five business days (Monday 29 October).”

The insurance policy was taken out by Tailwind Sports, the then owner of the US Postal team, to cover performance bonuses that would be due to Armstrong if he won the Tour.

SCA refused to pay out the money because it argued Armstrong was not a clean rider.

Armstrong took legal action against the company and won, because the contract between the parties stipulated that the money would be payable if Armstrong was the “official winner” of the Tours from 2004 to 2006.

  25. The record attendance a Scottish Cup Final was 1937 :attendance 146,433 Scottish Cup Final : Celtic v Aberdeen.

  26. I see Richard Wilson of the Herald has hit the front early in the jockeying for FTT decision
