Johansen and Denayer step up

668

Congratulations to Scotland’s Player of the Year, Stefan Johansen, and Young Player of the Year, Jason Denayer.  It’s fair to say Stefan had an underwhelming first eight months in Scotland, but the turnaround since October has been stark.

It was during our home defeat to Hamilton Accies that month that I noticed a change in his game.  He took on more responsibility and pressed incessantly for the equaliser.  The next game, away to Ross County, was a Johansen virtuoso performance and he’s never looked back.

There was a similar ‘So what?’ reaction to Jason’s early season performances.  Performances were far more like Efe Ambrose than Virgil van Dijk, but he grew increasingly assured as the season progressed.  His international debut two months ago was merited.

Manchester City want him back for next season, where he’ll be second reserve for central defence.  On the upside, he’ll get six games, some of which will be in the cups against lower league opponents.  If City and the player want to map a route to the first team, this is a step in the process, but it’s not without its risks to the player.

I suppose that Martin Hannans article would have recieved a more favourable reception had it went along the lines the of Champions League needs Celtic competing at the semi-final stages every year and in order to achieve this end they should be parachuted immediately straight into the English Premiership with a 200 million golden hello handshake

There again Martin Hannan might be the type of Celtic Supporter who tells you it as he sees it and not the type who resorts to posting guff on an Internet blog for the purpose of social inclusion.

Davie Whyte wrote to the SFA to get Jim Callaghan banned after FIFA refused to get involved .

Jock Stein said at the time “I wd hate to think we wd stoop low enough to make an official protest that could possibly result in a decision like this”

I was at game that Whyte’s complaint about Callagahan was based on. If I recall correctly Callaghan stood by as a Celtic player administered a sore one in the stones to one of THEM. My instant reaction was that Callaghan, justifiably was in trouble.

  5. Would anyone like to hazard a guess at which political party has been writing to Tory voters in East Renfrewshire telling them that they ‘understand your values, your concerns and your priorities’ and ‘respects the values of hard work, responsibility and public service which the Conservative party has traditionally stood for’?

“Lubo it may well be a pantomime, In an attempt to win back the disillusioned working man Labour sent a comedian wearing lipstick to George Sqaure.”

Yep, woman at my work is one such disillusioned Labour supporter because of “illegal wars.”

The SNP are welcome to her, I sure wish we’d gone into Rwanda illegally back in 1994, since no one had the balls to go in legally, and annihilate those machete wielding, church torching genocidal Hutu scumbags who’d butchered up to 1 million defenceless Tutsi’s.

Curious how all genocidal murderous scumbags are allergic to a taste of their own medicine even if it’s “illegal.”

Perhaps unconsciously you hit the nail on the head. Politicians are extremely selective of which wars the engage in. There were Labour MPs whose conscience would not let them vote for a Tory led war in Iraq despite Saddam having invaded Kuwait. A few years later they were quite happy to go along with Blair’s invasion of Iraq based on the existence of mythical WMDS.

The Iraqi civilians who died in Blair’s war aren’t around to tell us their views on anything. This is more shameful than a few idiots disrupting the Scottish Labour party leader.

We live in a democracy and if people are still upset about the illegal war in Iraq then they have the right to express that upset.

Heard from people who knew Mr Callaghan that he did not see the incident but heard a roar and turned round to see Johnston in difficulty. Linesman gave no help.

You mean the “mythical” ones Saddam used in the Iran-Iraq War? Maybe you should get in touch with the relatives of those gassed and tell them they must have died of natural causes instead.

Iraq is indeed a shambles but it was Blair along with Clinton, who managed to get NATO onboard to confront the Serbian genocidal scumbags during the Bosnian War, whereas Salmond thought they should be left to sort it out for themselves, which the Serbs were more than happy to oblige with, and continue their campaign of mass rape and murder against the Bosnian Muslims, marching the boys and men out into the woods to dig their own graves. SNP have always been curiously quiet on that one for some reason though.

“EMILIO IZAGUIRRE will miss the start of Celtic’s Champions League campaign after performing a shock international U-turn.

The left-back previously told Honduras he wouldn’t be available for the CONCACAF Gold Cup because the competition, which runs from July 7-26, clashes with the European qualifying rounds.

But Izaguirre, above, has had a change of heart and will now sacrifice his club commitments – which includes pre-season training – in order to play for his country.

The Honduras squad will meet up on May 25 for friendlies against El Salvador, Paraguay, Brazil and Mexico.

Their first Gold Cup group game is against co-hosts United States on July 7. The last group game is on the evening of July 13 which means Izaguirre will miss the first leg of Celtic’s Champions League second qualifying round fixture on July 14/15.

If Honduras progress in the tournament, Izaguirre could also be unavailable for the return leg on July 21/22.

The situation is likely to put the defender, 28, on a collision course with Parkhead manager Ronny Deila.

Izaguirre said: “I’m available for the friendlies. My plans are to be called to the national team, if selected.

“Confusion arose earlier because I thought we’d be in the Scottish Cup Final, which would have meant I couldn’t play those games. I’m ready for the May 25 camp. It depends on what the coach Jorge Luis Pinto and Celtic say, they are the bosses.”
