Johansen and Denayer step up

668

Congratulations to Scotland’s Player of the Year, Stefan Johansen, and Young Player of the Year, Jason Denayer.  It’s fair to say Stefan had an underwhelming first eight months in Scotland, but the turnaround since October has been stark.

It was during our home defeat to Hamilton Accies that month that I noticed a change in his game.  He took on more responsibility and pressed incessantly for the equaliser.  The next game, away to Ross County, was a Johansen virtuoso performance and he’s never looked back.

There was a similar ‘So what?’ reaction to Jason’s early season performances.  Performances were far more like Efe Ambrose than Virgil van Dijk, but he grew increasingly assured as the season progressed.  His international debut two months ago was merited.

Manchester City want him back for next season, where he’ll be second reserve for central defence.  On the upside, he’ll get six games, some of which will be in the cups against lower league opponents.  If City and the player want to map a route to the first team, this is a step in the process, but it’s not without its risks to the player.

BFD & Guidi think that somebody should put an arm round Mc Lean after another inept display yesterday. Like the way they did with Jim Callaghan who was suspended for 2 months after failing to send off Big Yogi after a clash with Johnston?

Or as the rating guy said after giving him a 2. The whistler is currently a less credible judge than Louis Walsh.

Met a Scottish man in a Russian bar last night. Unexpected surprise. Unfortunately he was a nationalist who insisted on talking about politics.

This country is fervently nationalistic just now. In Russian cities, towns and villages, flags are everywhere. On the day we won the league, I visited a countryside area where fascists killed everyone in the village. There is now a memorial. Only when you are here can you grasp how this place suffered.

  9. Jude2005,

Steven “I stopped the treble” McLean schoolboy error mistakes on Saturday will be glossed over. He completed his mission in the semi final and will be suitably rewarded. I would not be surprised to see him as the 4th official at the cup final.

There is no need to put an arm round McLean– Fleming & co will take care of his career. The fast tracking of “out of his depth” Andrew Dallas will continue as well. It’s almost as if someone is on a mission to make incompetent referees as prominent as possible.

If they continue at this rate I would not be surprised to see “Broxi Bear” reffing Celtic games next season. Broxi Bear would probably have given the penalty in the semi final.

Agreed. What you recount is clearly so. However, Uncle Joe was a very baaaad man. He murdered more people than Hitler, so a bit of balance is required when we look at history. It also depends on who wrote it.

  12. About half a million people died in Iraq as a result of war-related causes between the US-led invasion in 2003 and mid-2011, an academic study suggests.

University researchers from the US, Canada and Iraq based their estimate on randomised surveys of 2,000 households.

The toll includes not only violent deaths from the invasion and subsequent insurgency, but avoidable fatalities linked to infrastructure collapse.

It exceeds the 112,000 violent civilian deaths reported by Iraq Body Count.

I have no sympathy for any MP who supported the US led invasion of Iraq,so what Jim Murphy had to put up with today is insignificant in what was inflicted on the poor people of Iraq in our name.

  14. Captain beefheart. I don’t know who thse guys are however I have noted a change in Scotland where the bullying nationalists believe they can abuse anyone who disagrees with them. I fear for Scotland. I really do.

  15. Celtic Celtic that’s the team for me

Celtic Celtic on to Victory. Were the best team in Hunland I hope you will agree. If sevco are promoted to the premiership I hope Celtic are watching every move them and the S F A are up to .

  16. Soukous quite frankly you are espousing the politics of the bully. It’s disgusts me.

It was a strange winter .Warm and dry in December . Then it snowed heavily on Hogmanay . January was mostly dry but with a really cold wind.February was like the Outer Hebrides – weeks of heavy rain / strong cold wind /with hailstones the size of Maltesers.Spring was cold but dry and then suddenly it was high 20s.Might not see rain again until November.

“Lubo it may well be a pantomime, In an attempt to win back the disillusioned working man Labour sent a comedian wearing lipstick to George Sqaure.”

Yep, woman at my work is one such disillusioned Labour supporter because of “illegal wars.”

The SNP are welcome to her, I sure wish we’d gone into Rwanda illegally back in 1994, since no one had the balls to go in legally, and annihilate those machete wielding, church torching genocidal Hutu scumbags who’d butchered up to 1 million defenceless Tutsi’s.

Curious how all genocidal murderous scumbags are allergic to a taste of their own medicine even if it’s “illegal.”

  30. Seems the usual pattern on here.

No complaints when Nats post their stuff, then, when challenged, the shouts about Celtic blogs, enough politics etc go up.

Make the point when the first post appears, not when others decide not to let pish go.
