Johansen and Denayer step up

668

Congratulations to Scotland’s Player of the Year, Stefan Johansen, and Young Player of the Year, Jason Denayer.  It’s fair to say Stefan had an underwhelming first eight months in Scotland, but the turnaround since October has been stark.

It was during our home defeat to Hamilton Accies that month that I noticed a change in his game.  He took on more responsibility and pressed incessantly for the equaliser.  The next game, away to Ross County, was a Johansen virtuoso performance and he’s never looked back.

There was a similar ‘So what?’ reaction to Jason’s early season performances.  Performances were far more like Efe Ambrose than Virgil van Dijk, but he grew increasingly assured as the season progressed.  His international debut two months ago was merited.

Manchester City want him back for next season, where he’ll be second reserve for central defence.  On the upside, he’ll get six games, some of which will be in the cups against lower league opponents.  If City and the player want to map a route to the first team, this is a step in the process, but it’s not without its risks to the player.

What exactly is an oodle? Is it something akin to a Motherwell billion?

Really despair at the level of ‘alleged’ journalism in Scotland.

Oh and just because the writer of ‘The Kings oodles’ is a Catholic doesn’t mean he ain’t a HUN, albeit he probably doesn’t even realise it.

Eh no I beg to differ. There have been numerous affronts to taste we have had to endure as supporters Umbro, Nike and now NBs fashion over style beach wear. Admittedly I am guilty of buying most of them

My big sis went to see him in London. She got the Sam Cooke thing .She bought a 7 ” at the gig and posted it to me – Coming Home / Better Man .Yes – he sounds like Sam Cooke but maybe too much so..

A mate saw him in New York supporting Sharon Van Etten .He too thought great voice / very Sam Cooke but maybe too much like Sam Cooke.

SoT …. not as good a voice as SC, but, then again, he had one of the great voices of all time, so very few could sing like SC … little bits of Otis, too, in LB’s style … and if you are going to steal from someone, steal from the best …. in time, I think he will develop his own style more …. definitely worth seeing him now before he gets big and starts playing those big stadiums…

musically, it was good… but it was one of those shows where the whole was greater than the sum of its parts …

went to the film festival last night, and saw a documentary on Nina Simone …. another one of my favourite all time singers … but that was one seriously angry, messed up lady…. but damn! she could play and sing like few ever did!

Really looking forward to seeing the Nina Simone documentary..

Went to see her in London in 99. Support act was Germaine Greer reciting poems in tribute.Nina Simone oozed anger and aggression .I felt I was very much the wrong gender and colour.

I watched Denayer at CP during the 6-1 thrashing of Dundee United and immediately saw a player with ability.

Less than two weeks later I watched Johansen put in a dreadful performance, with zero effort against Dundee at Dens. Had it not been for his countryman from Norway, Jo Berget, who put in one of the worst performances I have witnessed by any Celtic player, then Johansen may have filled that position.

An incredible turnaround, and well done to SJ, as well as JD.

Intersting article from the FAZ. If there are concerns here over us winning 4IAR how great would it be if we were to match the Olympiakos achievement of 17 titles in 19 years? Maybe Ronny should set his sights higher than Rosenberg!

  20. “The Council provided £68,377.20 in September, 2013, to support the delivery of this agreement. We fully support Audit Scotland in any responsible monitoring of the public pound.”

Spokesman fro East Dunbartonshire Council on being approached by The Scotsman about the examination by Audit Scotland of the Celtic/NHS/Council deal that meant Celtic now train at Lennoxtown.

Key words “any responsible monitoring”. I think this is the same “complaint” about the Triangle that a European enquiry found to be completely unfounded.

Meanwhile, Martin Hannan wants sevco/deidco crimes and misdemeanours airbrushed out of history so that we can all go back to the good old corrupt days.
