Johansen and Denayer step up

668

Congratulations to Scotland’s Player of the Year, Stefan Johansen, and Young Player of the Year, Jason Denayer.  It’s fair to say Stefan had an underwhelming first eight months in Scotland, but the turnaround since October has been stark.

It was during our home defeat to Hamilton Accies that month that I noticed a change in his game.  He took on more responsibility and pressed incessantly for the equaliser.  The next game, away to Ross County, was a Johansen virtuoso performance and he’s never looked back.

There was a similar ‘So what?’ reaction to Jason’s early season performances.  Performances were far more like Efe Ambrose than Virgil van Dijk, but he grew increasingly assured as the season progressed.  His international debut two months ago was merited.

Manchester City want him back for next season, where he’ll be second reserve for central defence.  On the upside, he’ll get six games, some of which will be in the cups against lower league opponents.  If City and the player want to map a route to the first team, this is a step in the process, but it’s not without its risks to the player.

Jude do you think Tom Clarke is the man to take Coatbridge forward then?

I hear he wanted to retire as he’s well over 70 but was coerced into standing as Labours only hope is force of habit.

Think Peas and Barley scoring in Amsterdam. That’s what it’s like.

Could be a lot of nonsense of course.

Is she the one who tweeted that she ‘really f*cking hates Celtic’ and called us scum?

I can’t see what all the fuss is about.

She sounds like an ideal SNP candidate, in the best traditions of that party, and would doubtless be a wonderful representative for the electorate of Paisley.

And if she wins, and makes a Tory government more likely, all the better.

  9. Regarding recent article on CQN Magazine about the Ibrox gates, can anyone confirm what they now say…..i.e. assume they do not say “Rangers Football Club Ltd” any more?

I think the gates read “Football Rankers Club Ltd”.

Although I’m not sure if it the holding company (RFIC) or the held portion (TRFC) that is meant to be represented.

Maybe if they had one full time painter, instead of a team of full time gardeners, they might get it right and stop the rust.

the new home strip is okay …. as someone said earlier, lose the thin strips and makes the hoops a bit thinner… but certainly better than this year’s strip.

And I quite like the away strip.

Anyways, was a busy weekend, so wasn’t on much. Hope you all had a great weekend celebrating.

As promised, I said I would post about the Leon Bridges show…. smoking! It was a small club .. maybe 200 people …back-up band had a distinctly Roy Orbison (or Chris Isaak for the younger set) feel to them… no surprise being from texas ….

as for LR, he looked, sounded and acted like an updated version of a young Sam Cooke …. it you closed your eyes, you felt like you were in 1956 in a small club in Mississipi on the old chitlin circuit….

If you get a chance (he is in glasgow in july, I think) go see this kid.

That is just not true mate. I can tell you that with 100% certainty. Tom Clarke is incapable retiring, he will not give up his role a MP unless voted out.

His work for disabled people has been very good, if largely unheralded.

I’m not sure MP’s take towns forward, whoever they are. That’s the cooncils job on a day to day basis. MP’s tnd to firefight and grandstand.

Stringer disrespect to Tom Clarke but he’s 74 now and never had to put up a poster in his career to win the seat, I don’t expect him to be our MP in a years time no matter how the vote goes although I do appreciate the dearth of upcoming talent in the labour ranks , hence Jim Murphy is considered their finest.

I say all this has someone who has voted for Clarke all my life.
