Killie prove you can get at this Rangers team

977

I watched Kilmarnock previous home game against Inverness, as shambolic a defensive performance as I have seen in the SPL.  Shipping six goals against the team who were, and remain, bottom of the league is the kind of result that can decimate team morale, but St Johnstone’s result at Ibrox last week offered some encouragement that you can get at this this Rangers team.

It’s worth pointing out a few things.  Rangers are still four points clear at the top of the league, if we were in that position we would rightly be delighted and confident.  Pascali’s goal for Kilmarnock was also only their second goal conceded in eight SPL away games and only their seventh overall in 16 games – getting on for half a season.  By comparison, Celtic have conceded 14 goals, including three at Kilmarnock.

While that defensive record is commendable, the loss of Steven Naismith leaves them disproportionately dependent on Nikica Jelavic to maintain their goal-scoring threat, and Jelavic is not known for season-long durability.

When news came through that Sone Aluko had paid his transfer fee to become a Rangers player few of us expected him to make as quick an impact on the league table as he has, single-handedly playing three Kilmarnock players onside at the goal.  This is an unfortunate start to the player’s Rangers career but Rangers fans have a reputation for scapegoating (among other things).  For some, Aluko’s card is marked.  He’ll need a lot of talent to recover from this one.

I thought about posting so many times, I don’t get it.

I decided not to post anything. God Bless the Speed family in what they will have to go through now.

I am more worried about the US // Soviet standoff in the Middle East that the mainstream media is deciding to ignore in the West.

    Paul67,

After a “Carlsberg” weekend football-wise for me, Ithink I should get this off my chest.

Please don’t be offended as I get on at my young engineers all the time about this.

  5. macjay1, Summa of Sammi,

How do you ol goodfellas think about Neil Lennon getting 4 trophies this season?

    possible?

I think ,given our age and totally depending on us winning on Wednesday, we could do it.

All the other leagues will have clubs who have up and coming teams who are concentrating on getting a CL spot.

I think Celtic will have this SPL wrapped up relatively early and Europe will become the Focal point, if we can make it through this CL level group.

    G`day,mate.

    The S.P.L. will do me.

I was pleased about the re-entry to the Europa, because of the experience

it would provide to our young players.

Unless that were to compromise our league challenge.

    Anything else is a bonus.

Can`t quite understand our multi buys.

We can`t fit them all in and there may well be some unhappy players later, the last thing we need.

All in all,I`m delighted that the team are performing with style and success.

    Cheers.

Have wanted to speak to you personally, but have mislaid your mobile no.

Apparently, wee Gordon was approached with a view to “mentoring” Lenny, some time in Sept.

    The deal unfortunately fell through.

In addition , his loyalty to Celtic has been underlined by his favourable commentary about us.

    Hope to speak soon.

    Sad news of Gary Speed.

Brilliant player and all round nice guy he will be sorely missed.

  12. And as I’m lifting things from other sites, over on RTC a guy said

“I simply can’t understand the criticism of Aluko at the goal. The wee man is self-employed and when you’re the boss then some days you can’t be arsed.

  13. Good morning to all from MK where dawn is just about to break on a frosty morning.

Great result on Saturday from a team that is starting to believe in itself, so much so that an 18 year old making his home début is confident enough to take such audacious control and score the goal of his, and everybody’s dreams.

The scouting team took criticism from some earlier in the season but with Wanyama, Kayal, Izagurrie and McGeouch they have more than excelled themselves, take a bow gentlemen (we’ll give them a Mulligan on Bangura).

All good news this morning and I can’t get over how comprehensively the team outplayed St Mirren in what I thought was one of the key matches to our season. Now for Wednesday’s game which you’ve gotta be confident will be another win and another step forward.

Watching yesterday’s game it was all too obvious that Kilmarnock didn’t show the same appetite for sticking the foot in against Rangers as they do against Celtic and it was a surprise the BBC stats recorded they committed 15 fouls.

Finally, the sad news of Gary Speed’s death is a reminder that death is more important than football, RIP Mr Speed.

Can any Aussie based tims tell me if Celtic vs Madrid is on Fox, ESPN or setanta. If not is it on Celtic Tv live?

It was fantastic to wake up this morning and find out the Huns had lost and I was able to watch some of the game before taking the kids to school. When the wife got up this morning I told her the Huns had lost and she looked at me laughed and said I already know due to your shouting and bawling at the tv before 7am. Come on you buoys in green.

A very good weekend, saddened only by the genuine tragedy that is the death of Gary Speed.

May God bring some comfort to his family and friends.

  17. At the game on Saturday, excellent performance, though I think we’ll face stiffer opposition that that in the coming weeks. Haven’t had chance to look through previous comments, so deepest apologies if I’m repeating what’s already been said, but mention needs to be made of Victor Wanyama. Whilst Hooper’s hatrick, McGeouch’s wonder goal, and Samaras actually putting in a decent shift get the headlines, I thought Wanyama was fantastic in an unglamourous and non-headline grabbing way. Never pulled out of a challenge, broke up many St Mirren attacks and I would love to see the stats on the success rate of his passes. More clean sheets on the way?

According to the latest RTC blog that fine, upstanding citizen Mr C Whyte has been deducted PAYE etc from employees wages but none of this has been passed to the taxman. None. Since May. What an entrepreneur.

  19. Don’t know if anyone has noticed but I’m glad I don’t by the daily rectum or Scottish hun no more.

They printed last week that it was neds who attacked stokes’s house and now it’s lafffertys car it’s bigots and treating it as sectarian total wankers.

  20. Well that turned into a very good weekend for Celtic. Our manager is going to have a few selection headaches when he has a full squad to choose from – but that’s the kind of problem a manager loves.

Our next two league games are against Dundee United and Hearts. Having reduced the gap at the top we now need to make sure we keep winning. These two will be difficult games, but on current form we can take the six points.

  21. John Rankin was the guest on sportscene last night, as part of his introduction there was footage of his goal against Celtic in 2008 – the squiggler – they showed it three times. out of interest I checked his wiki page – he has scored 32 career goals – for ICT “He made 55 appearances and scored nine goals, including a stunning last minute winner against Rangers on 27 December 2006” ok, it wasn’t a squiggler so maybe showing the goal against Celtic – three times – was fair enough.

Killie last beat the Huns in 1994 – so considering they won again yeterday for the first time in 17 years you would expect to see footage of that game? no – a humping from the Huns from last year.

Celtic hammer St Mirren, not a totally unexpected result – cue footage of a st mirren win at Celtic park from 1990??
