  1. the glorious balance sheet on

First half was awful and nowhere near good enough.

Second half – big improvement. But – 80 minutes in and at 0-0 they missed an absolute sitter with 2 guys unmarked at the back post.

We were powder puff in front of goal throughout. That goalkeeper couldn`t hold water all night long, flapped at everything, and we still toiled to score against him.

Stokes and one other of Griffiths or Pukki equals our worst forward line since the Willie Falconer/ Andy Walker combo of 94/95.

Ronny Deila was quoted as saying wide players are a priority. I think that a clinical striker with a physical presence is the priority. No point in us signing wide players right now as they`ll only be playing crosses in in futility as we have no one to attack the crosses when they come in.

We`ll take the away win and move on. Hopefully a big improvement to come next week.

I’ve been saying this for ages mate, sometimes he doesn’t say things that are too complinmentary about us but he also gives Sevco plenty stick and one thing is for sure, he knows how to analyse a football game.

  4. McCoist in tomorrow’s Scottish Daily Mail: ‘The sad thing is that, in our country, our vindication will stick in some people’s throats.’

Anyone know what were they vindicated for?

  5. iPaddy McCourt on

Could easily have been 4 or 5 tonight. We absolutely battered them in the second half. An away goal and a clean sheet in our first competitive game in the middle of July is acceptable. Well done Callum McGregor

  6. Pretty much what I expected, given the overly-cagey formation and the lack of match fitness.

Delighted for Mcgregor, and I hope the bobbly goal gives him confidence, but I don’t think he justifies a place with that performance.

Stokes had a dreadful 1st half, but was unfairly subbed after a much-improved 2nd. Not so with Griffiths, who I’ll never tire of saying should never play for Celtic. He was keech.

Man of the match – Charlie Mulgrew (along with Van Dijk, who strolled it, and Johansen, who looked sharp, particularly 1st half).

  7. Happy with result just feel the front players need to offer more a lack of movement and not coming off defenders quick enough is limiting options but caveat that by realising it is early days, happy for the manager

    Good night’s work.

A victory and a clean sheet along with one of younger players scoring.

Let’s finish the job next week.

    C’mon the hoops

Thanks for that! My wife was none too pleased about the brevity of the break from the tv football I had mentioned after the WC final, but she sure laughed at that!

Hope you are well Eddie, I am with you I can take the stick so long as it is not solely directed at us, I think he stuck it right into mc moist last season, but your right I enjoy his analysis he is generally accurate in his assessments

    Funny old game mate .

    Everyone has opinions.

I thought Johansson was anonymous, Stokes really poor and LG / commons our most dangerous options!

As a said ‘ funny old game’

  14. prestonpans bhoys dam justice for the 5 on

Youtube reyk fan and squirrel and have a laugh, can, t link from this ipad

  15. Happy with the scoreline. Flashes of new pressing style shown, mostly in the first 5 minutes of each half.

Delighted for Calum Mcgregor, a scoring midfielder is a great threat to have. All he needs to do is add other qualities, tackling and passing, and he might supplant one of those costly foreigners in our midfield.

MOTM for me was Charlie Mulgrew.

Breathing easier now we’re over that hurdle. It was a game where we could only earn brickbats and not plaudits.

Give this manager two months minimum and then see if he has changed anything that needed changing.

P.S. Am I seeing things or did Derk beat his man twice and put two dangerous crosses in.?

  16. Doc, my good man

Critical mass and all that – 100% of 1 is only 50% of 2.

Celtic may not have 500m fans like some ‘teams’ but we have a right to expect a better performance level against such a team of semi-professionals

  17. Thanks for the updates everyone and RWE, cheers.

It reads like a pre-season game, brilliant result and a bit more cohesion and fitness in the tank will see us in tip top shape for the next step.

    Hail Hail.

  18. Commons & Johansen our best players. Griffiths played well, particularly in second half, as did Mulgrew, Lustig & VVD. McGregor hardly involved but scored great goal by doing something no one else did, take the defender on.

Stokes poor and Izzy’s crossing was woeful. The least said about Efe the better.

    The Glorious Balance Sheet,

Top summing up, our problem is through the middle and – immediately – how are we going to replace KC as he gets older. His intelligence is head and shoulders above everybody else imo.

Happy for MacGregor. Its goin to take months for new methods to even start to kick in. Thats gonna require a lot of patience, and we’re not big on that – me least of all.

Agreed. Thought LG looked our most dangerous forward in the second half before being taken off.

Didn’t think we had any dangerous forwards in the first half. CM man of the match for me.

  23. I’m glad that Celtic didn’t score with all the chances they had, it would have been 5 or 6 nothing and I wouldn’t have gone to the game next Tuesday, I was dreading it being a big score.

  24. Burghbhoy

Johansen anonymous 2nd half, but his 1st half play was superb – just don’t think his passing was met with the same sharpness in front of goal, where it mattered most.

Griffiths was awful – (trying hard to be fair) he was played out of position, and his shot which rattled the bar shows he’s probably better as a CF. I just… don’t like him.

Commons too far out 1st half, but still missed a few chances that, had he been up to spped, he would have put away.

  25. Good to get the season of to winning start. Another Champions League win away from home. Onwards and upwards Celtic. Why though were neither of the two new away strips used?

  26. JimmyQuinnsBits on

There is a marked change already, but intermittently; we dwell on the ball less – pass isnt crisp yet, but the ball is moving more.

Players of the ball – particularly Stokes – are still too static
