  1. Off tonight’s topic a bit, but if anyone is looking for a great football based book I highly recommend Red or Dead by David Peace. Not an easy read y any means but well worth the effort. He gets right into the spirit of Bill Shankly in the same way that he did with Brian Clough in The Damned United. Great books both.

  2. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Much better balance after the subs.

Calum was more comfortable on the right and Leigh does his best work coming in from the wing, not stuck out on it.

Really the only player who actually looked any way

sharp was Commons and on another day, would have scored two or three.

Early days, but I still have fears for Mulgrew in midfield and Stokes anywhere.

Anthony did himself no favours by ” snubbing” the manager after being subbed.

We should be alright after a couple of squirts of WD40 and a tweak with a spanner!

  3. Boerrigter for Stokes with Griffiths played through the middle should be the line up next week. Injuries permitting.

You and I watched the same game.

A win is a win, and very very early for us to be playing a competitive game.

Hopefully we will be Much better next week.

    Hail Hail

The Stoke sub i agreed with, but was yellin at the telly for Griffiths coming off for Boerigter.

But, fair play, it changed something for us – am not sure what yet.

  6. HT stated earlier today, that Stokes has the ability, but effort Must be improved.

My observation his attitude needs to improve along with effort

Hey but we won, so onto next week :-)

We will mollicate the icelanders in Edinburgh. We should have done so tonight but I,m glad we didnt. I want oldtim to go to the game.

When is the next round? We,ll be much sharper by then.

Well done to RK kepping preventing a cricket score.

  8. I’ll take that, a win is a win and at this stage of the season and in these games it’s all about the results.

Only read a couple of pages of the blog and noticed a few posters saying that they noticed a difference in our style of play. Personally, I can’t agree, I don’t think we’d have played any differently in a similar fixture last season.

Dear God, just one request…..please don’t let Kris Commons get injured.

  9. Can’t complain about tonight’s performance, first game that mattered, got the result, as has been said could have been 4 or 5,then again how many times have we not, remember Morton last season ,aye and we were well into the swing of things, good runout, pressure off for now, hope our Ruck is in full flow next week.

    Burghbhoy

Johansen anonymous 2nd half, but his 1st half play was superb – just don’t think his passing was met with the same sharpness in front of goal, where it mattered most.

Griffiths was awful – (trying hard to be fair) he was played out of position, and his shot which rattled the bar shows he’s probably better as a CF. I just… don’t like him.

Commons too far out 1st half, but still missed a few chances that, had he been up to spped, he would have put away.

    ………….

I have to disagree about Griffiths. He showed a fantastic piece of skill to set up Kris for his shot that hit the bar. He later hit the bar himself. He was played out of position. I’m a Sparky fan.

  12. Surprise result tonight – Bate Borisov 0 Skenderbeu of Albania 0.

Bate have a coefficient higher than we have. Trip to Albania in July will not be easy.

  13. One other thing.

See in home games and against poorer opposition can we please not try to be too clever and just play 2 as out and out strikers instead of fitting round pegs into square holes.

  14. Pogmathonyahun aka Laird of the Smiles on

I am far from being a happy clapper but the negative posters on here must be really pissed off that we didn’t lose tonight or at least draw.

This was our first competitive match under a brand new management team against a parked bus that is several weeks into its own season.

Job done, now onto next week to finish it, the team can’t do more than that.

  15. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    HAMILTON TIM

But do we have two out-and-out strikers?

  16. 5th generation on

Stokes had a fair crack of the whip and got 75 mins . Got subbed and snubbed the new boss.Attitude all wrong , i would move him on, no time for that nonsense.

  17. McGregor was very tidy throughout. And,as I said BEFORE he scored…good on the ball and kept looking for it.

In fact he rarely lost possession which couldn’t be said of any of the others!

  18. SOAL

    Yep sure was.

    BMCUW

Stokes and Griffiths should have played as a front 2 in my opinion.

  19. Up over goal

Stokes unfairly subbed and Leigh Griffith keech ????

What game were you watching ??

Agree with Mc Ghee Better with a game like that than a tippy tappy friendly!!

  21. McDowellcelt god bless wee oscar on

Sparta Prague won 7-0. Has anybody michael platinis number? Need to offer him a bribe to fix the next round so we avoid them!

  22. Kojo,

Lots of posters give the bum’s rush, but I always read your stuff.

    Perspicacious.

    Did like your quip:

Happy as Heidi..wid be..if she Wuz Larry.

    Funny.

High horses springs to mind(from some on here), though you can sound a bit like my mother in law. She’s 90 odd and got dementia. She calls the local shop by a non PC name, spouts stuff that Farrage would steal, but she is the salt of the earth – didn’t get the Ben Elton way of kidding on you are real PC but being a money grabbing Tory in disguise.

Mind you, you sound like a Tory at times.

Keep posting Kojo. You are a unique talent.

  23. A Ceiler Gonof Rust.

I posted to you on previous blog re getting a train into Haymarket, it’s only a mile and a bit to Murrayfield from the Station. Oh and I placed an order for one of your new bottles of Whisky if you don’t mind. I’m in the Presidents Lounge at Murrayfield, looks a bit of class, are you having a drink while in Edinburgh.

As Stewart said. Efe ducks out of a defending header that nearly cost us a goal!! The guy is a liability imo!!

What game were you watching ??

Like, the same one as you, man!

Although what interest Leigh Griffiths had in the life cycle of the honeybee I’ll never know.

  27. Good start bhoys. Wasn’t going to be easy and the Icelanders were defending for their lives second half.

Will be October before the true stamp of RD will hit the team IMO . Subtle changes week on week til then. Tonight we could see more passing between the lines especially by the 2 deep lying midfielders.

    Onward and upward.

  28. Dallas Dallas where the heck is Dallas on

Starry Plough, agred re Nir. He keeps the ball moving. He will be vital if we qualify for the group stages.

Notthe bus, it that comment from Mr Blobby is correct, he really is hitting a new low even for him.

A former sports writer I know interviewed him about 25 years ago. He told me his blobbiness was as bitter a sticky bun as one from Larkhall & Brigton.

  29. O.G. Re-critical mass, that works when we go up the way too?

Man U would need a crowd of 500,000 to get close to 1% of their population.

It doesn’t prove anything does it?

Ring rusty today, two players only just back from the WC, players back from a short break taking on new thinking from the coach.

  30. ....PFayr supports WeeOscar on

Stokes..dreadful performance then appears to snub the manager …what’s wrong with this guy

Surely he didn’t think he played well …

    Impressed ….no

    Functional …just about

Long way to go and we are very short on decent strikers
