Lessons from Jerry Maguire

1815

News that a striker reneged on a verbal commitment to join the club 24 hours before deadline day should surprise no one.  Think back to that line from Jerry Maguire, when Jerry’s girlfriend hears he had secured a representative deal on a handshake, not an actual contract.  The agent’s reminder of Lesson One in business was sharp.

Last minute change of plans happen, but only when you’re doing last minute business.  We are now 10 hours away from the deadline and in desperate need for what we’ve been in desperate need…. to replace the long departed Gary Hooper.  It would be wrong to think that Scepovic was the only striker we were pursuing, so we’re not starting from scratch, but he was first choice.

The ball is still in play, not panicking yet.

Can anyone explain why a signing like Gudetti couldn’t have been made in time for CL qualifiers?

£800m spent by EPL teams….. says it all really ….. and you wonder why Celtic are being careful …… One helluva big bubble is going to burst over the next few years ….. reminds me of the hype before the recession in 2008

    Couldn’t agree more.

    What a left foot.

On his game a fantastic left sided midfielder.

    Down side.

I remember he was given a wee chance for Engerland.

Came on like a rabbit caught in the headlights.

Performed poorly on the big occasion.

Later in his celtic career had the tendency to hide during matches.

    Good player tho.

Celtic are “progressing” with deals to sign John Guidetti on loan from Manchester City and Stefan Scepovic on a permanent basis from Sporting Gijon.

Serbia international Scepovic had decided against an agreed move to the Scottish champions late on Sunday.

But a switch to Getafe has collapsed and Celtic have re-entered the bidding for the 24-year-old’s signature.

Guidetti, 22, capped once for Sweden in 2012, is in the final year of his City contract.

Meanwhile, Celtic forwards Teemu Pukki, Amido Balde and Holmbert Fridjonsson have moved away on loan.

Pukki and Fridjonsson have joined Danish club Brondby, while Balde has gone to Belgian club Waasland Beveren.

Midfielders Dylan McGeough and Jackson Irvine have moved on to Hibernian and Ross County, respectively.

Guidetti was a prolific goalscorer during the 2011/12 campaign on loan at Feyenoord. However, a January move to Stoke last season was not so productive, with the striker making just six appearances as a substitute and failing to find the net.

Jo Inge Berget, Aleksander Tonev, Jason Denayer and Wakaso Mubarak have all arrived at the Scottish champions on loan this summer, while free agent Craig Gordon was manager Ronny Deila’s first signing.

  16. Greeninbingley,

I used to know a guy, who called his dad ‘Sir’.

When I first heard this, I felt really sorry for the guy, he had been at very prestigious denominational boarding school, and, I got the impression his dad was a distant figure whom he barely knew.

    Sad, but true
