Longmuir objections defeated. Then he asks for the top job

725

So after 15 years and 121 years respectively, the Scottish Premier League and Scottish Football League will be wound-up due to the creation of the Scottish Professional Football League.  Small objection, I know, but I don’t like the name.  It’s cumbersome and, in the case of one member club (Queens) downright inaccurate.  They stuck a word in to differentiate the new entity from the historical one, but why ‘Professional’?

I assume the last champions of the Scottish Premier League will retain the trophy, just as Northern Ireland did with the Home International Championship trophy?  Or will the brown brogue brigade insist that doesn’t happen?  I’m sure St Mirren will be making plans for the now-defunct Scottish Football League, League Cup, or at least they will when someone realises the awarding body is about to cease.

The new financial compensation structure will make a significant difference to half a dozen or so clubs in the second tier of the game but that’s about it.  There is no magic wand for Scottish football short of federation with a neighbouring association.

The biggest laugh of the day came from the news that outgoing SFL chief exec, David Longmuir, the man who did more than anyone to prevent the new SPFL getting to this stage, has put himself forward for the new chief executive position.

The word ‘shameless’ seems somewhat inadequate.  Make sure the brogues are clean for interview next week, David.

How will that one go?  ‘I know, I got it completely wrong.  I did my best to stop all of this from coming to fruition, what a laugh.  Best thing I can say is, I’m not Neil Doncaster, so how’s about it?’

Better get that CV types, David.  Or is my prediction that you were working your way to a position with a lower league club coming to fruition?

    It makes sense to bring bars in house the riot was in the 80s and you can’t dismiss the changes to then and now is as to grounds and conduct .

    My da used to lift me and my brother over (in for nowt ) and we would meet my uncles and cousins next to the floodlight pylon in the ragers end and the men would go out at half time for a carry oot for the second half .

    No one is asking to go back to the old days ,instead they are asking to move on from the 80s and be able to enjoy a few pints with fellow supporters before and possibly after the match to bump our gums about how well or bad we were .

    Still time to register for the CQN footie predictor, if not done so to date. 56 notes of interest so far, surpassing our original target of 50! So setting a new target of 67 (random number of course)

    League and cup format to run through the season with 50% of proceeds to go to CQN nominated charities.

    Cost for the entire season will be £10 league and £5 cup (which will hopefully run on a Champions league theme).

    So, can you hack it as a manager and claim top spot or lift the cup at the end of the season?

    Sevco’s new bus, designed and built in 2012 is actually the very same bus used in ’70 kids show “Double Deckers”.

    Sevco bought the history of the old bus and this new bus, which is about a year old, is the very same one Brinsley and the rest of the gang where jumping about on all those years ago.

    Why can all these Celtic supporters not see how logical this is.

  10. The lack of any real comment or objection to their admission as full members of the new football body or their brass necked circumvention or the transfer ban tells us that they have got away with the biggest swindle in the history of UK sport.

    Their sites are also full of indignation as if they are the wronged party. The more the SFA etc did for them the louder they shouted. Meanwhile our club has had little to say.

    When you read The Herald talking about the holding company that owns the club blah blah then you see the level that this deception has reached. The Herald buying this crap sells its own credibility for good.

    Even on the Celtic blogs interest is understandably fading. Yet one day they will, should they survive, play Celtic. What will our club say with regards to this?

    Recognise them as 1872 variety?

    Try to ignore the issue and be taunted by them and their media pals?

    Or man up and call them for what they are?

    Celtic fans have led this fight. Is it too much to ask for some support?

    Getting excited reading your posts, just logged on.

    Is the bevvy back at the games or am I just dreaming ?

  13. fstb,

    There will always be bams, there will be problems, but far fewer if controlled properly, even without the bevy there are bams and trouble but far far fewer than ever, that IMO is more down to self policing than anything security or the polis have ever done. If anything security and polis have caused more unrest than solved, most of the time they are called in by supporters to handle a situation rather than prevent, that is down to us.

    Then again there are some instances where the culprit gets away with it because they pushed a good mhan too far and got the slap they deserved, then the culprit always becomes the holy innocent.

  25. celtic have been busy this close season with;

    new elevated seating areas for disabled supporters and new facilities being fitted

    wifi access throughout stadium

    new family section

    the kerrydale bar

    reduced price of season tickets

    hopefully by the end of this season;

    London road school will be replaced

    the new building housing the superstore, museum and café will be built

    the avenue of hero’s will be complete

    hopefully after that celtic will;

    build another unit that mirrors the new building (museum/ superstore etc..). only to be used as a supporters barn on match days, with a large section designed for the purposes of a modern sports bar and restaurant on non-match.

    hopefully in 3 years time celtic will be able to build a 150 bed hotel alongside this building on London road

    all in all making celtic park and its envois a working environment 7 days a week by populating it.

    I love wee Sofia but Gina pips her. I liked Claudia Cardinale and Pier Andgeli as well. Sabrina Ferilli brightened up many a Roma match on C4 whilst ole Monica Bellucci isn’t bad.
