More fantasy about a miracle rescue

742

I was out of mobile phone range for most of yesterday and returned to read more histrionics.  On Tuesday I wrote: “Whatever ‘good news’ Duff and Phelps come out with later”, knowing full well (you all knew too) that news of Bill Miller’s departure would soon be countered by a fantastic (literally) piece of optimism from Rangers administrators.  They didn’t disappoint.

Today’s Guardian tells us that one bidder has “proved to Duff and Phelps they have a means of securing current owner Craig Whyte’s shares.”

Administrator, David Whitehouse, explains:  “One of the bids is for a stand-alone CVA and there are a number of hurdles which need to be overcome. Our view is that it is challenging, but it is not impossible. The purchaser who is talking to us about a stand-alone CVA has demonstrated to us that they have got a mechanism where Craig Whyte’s shares are not an issue.”

Ah, the illusive mechanism!  So Craig Whyte is irrelevant again.

We are three months into the process, Craig Whyte is no more irrelevant today than he was on 14 February, he remains the Only Show in Town.  Once he stops being the main event, HMRC take top billing.  After them, the players will have their 15 minutes of ‘action’.  Then you will hear more of the story.  If there is anything left after all this, the SPL and SFA will have their say.

Prior to appointing Bill Miller preferred bidder Duff and Phelps explained why a stand-along CVA was no longer possible.  No amount of creative thinking will change this fact.  The season ends on Sunday, Rangers last chance to pull a deal together passed on Monday, when Duff and Phelps were unable to present a proposal to the SPL.

Even IF a phoenix is assembled for next season, or the season after that, it will be a humbled shell of what was once Rangers.

Rangers Football Club is disintegrating and will do so at an increasing rate in the weeks ahead.  Again, cease and desist with the adolescent hysteria.  Chill. Go for a walk in the rain and spare a thought for those football fans with genuine worries.

Whoa, I meant the article, I didn’t realise you’d graced the airwaves. Looking forward to the podcast later Paul; I’m sure you came across really well…

  5. Auldheid,

Posting on the run so only glanced through your UEFA post. Apologies if I missed the bit I am about to mention.

In essense it boils down to this: the SFA can’t award a newco a UEFA club license but UEFA could. I don’t think it ever would but in theory it could.

Now if the newco is allowed to play in the SPL we are told it would be banned from Europe for three years. But why?

How can a newco be given a UEFA license to allow it to play in the SPL yet be banned from Europe under the very same regulations?

    Isn’t it all or nothing?

  6. Why is this never discussed?

If rangers are not in SPL = Teams are more competitive , have glory incentive and have financial incentive (european football).

This would attract more investment in those clubs – Investment which previously would have been “smothered” due to the dominance of an over spending Rangers.

Hibs ,Aberdeen and Hearts for example could flourish.

Also, the toxic nature of the league would be removed and we may see fairplay , creative footballers flourish and scottish football grow!

  7. Must admit I feel sorry for the Hibs fans cos their big weekend is being badly overshadowed in the news by the shenanigans south of teh river.

    Get up tae some.

Well played again – your are indefatigable!

Paul67 doesn’t seem to share your view that the License issue is a game changer (apologies to both if I picked that up wrong). I don’t know whether the assumption is that whatever the SPL wants the SFA will find a way to wave (waive!) through?

I’m certainly convinced by the license argument but I suppose I want to be!

The demise of Rangers may not be the end of the MSM in Scotland, but I imagine/hope/trust that things will be pretty different afterwards! I expect that ‘journalists’ (and Editors!) who’se impartiality comes into serious question will have a pretty tough time of it afterwards…

That was an education for them Paul.

Your final point about a rush to vote before all the evidence is presented is very important.

Doncaster’s strategy is to get a decision rushed through before the full range of Rangers wrongdoing is exposed to public view.

It is essential in my view that no vote is taken on Newco until the full range of that wrongdoing is in the public domain. Only when the full range of their crimes are known can the proper conditions be set for any vote for a Newco either

    a) yes no conditions or

    b) yes proper conditions or

    c) no.

Doncaster is deliberately as a matter of policy trying to treat this like a common or garden administration situation when it in fact potentially concerns massive fraud on Scottish Football in general and Celtic in particular. Celtic should oppose any vote and supporters of all clubs who oppose should tell their club chairmen not to attend until all facts are presented. What are the chances of enough clubs not turning up?

“30. No business shall be transacted at any General Meeting unless a quorum is present at the time when the General Meeting proceeds to business.

    31. Save as otherwise provided in these Articles, two-thirds in number of the Members who are entitled to be present and vote and who are present by a duly authorised representative or by proxy shall be the quorum for a General Meeting for all purposes.

    32. If such a quorum is not present within half an hour from the time appointed for the General Meeting, or if during a meeting such a quorum ceases to be present, or if a quorum attends a General Meeting at which a Qualified Resolution or Special Qualified Resolution is to be considered but the Members comprising such quorum are insufficient in number validly to pass the Qualified Resolution or Special Qualified Resolution, the General Meeting shall stand adjourned to the same day in the next week at the same time and place or to such time and place as the Board may determine and at such adjourned meeting those persons present shall be deemed to form a quorum notwithstanding the provisions of Article 31. The foregoing provisions of this Article shall not in any way reduce or alter the majority required to pass a resolution in terms of these Articles.”

  16. Very disappointed. Paul. When is the milk discussion starting?

Seriously, a very controlled contribution. It is not easy to make the points you made when others are in control of the way the programme goes. Chick was a wee bit excitable but I thought that Jim Spence was fair and, amazingly, at least when you were on, Jim Traynor was reasonable enough as well . Is this the future of Talk – ins when THEY disappear? The future might be bright.

Obviously he has no integrity, that comment tells you all you need to know about Jabba cares not a jot about what he writes only interested in filthy lucre. Must break his heart that he’s gone from succulent lamb to succulent spam.
