More fantasy about a miracle rescue

742

I was out of mobile phone range for most of yesterday and returned to read more histrionics.  On Tuesday I wrote: “Whatever ‘good news’ Duff and Phelps come out with later”, knowing full well (you all knew too) that news of Bill Miller’s departure would soon be countered by a fantastic (literally) piece of optimism from Rangers administrators.  They didn’t disappoint.

Today’s Guardian tells us that one bidder has “proved to Duff and Phelps they have a means of securing current owner Craig Whyte’s shares.”

Administrator, David Whitehouse, explains:  “One of the bids is for a stand-alone CVA and there are a number of hurdles which need to be overcome. Our view is that it is challenging, but it is not impossible. The purchaser who is talking to us about a stand-alone CVA has demonstrated to us that they have got a mechanism where Craig Whyte’s shares are not an issue.”

Ah, the illusive mechanism!  So Craig Whyte is irrelevant again.

We are three months into the process, Craig Whyte is no more irrelevant today than he was on 14 February, he remains the Only Show in Town.  Once he stops being the main event, HMRC take top billing.  After them, the players will have their 15 minutes of ‘action’.  Then you will hear more of the story.  If there is anything left after all this, the SPL and SFA will have their say.

Prior to appointing Bill Miller preferred bidder Duff and Phelps explained why a stand-along CVA was no longer possible.  No amount of creative thinking will change this fact.  The season ends on Sunday, Rangers last chance to pull a deal together passed on Monday, when Duff and Phelps were unable to present a proposal to the SPL.

Even IF a phoenix is assembled for next season, or the season after that, it will be a humbled shell of what was once Rangers.

Rangers Football Club is disintegrating and will do so at an increasing rate in the weeks ahead.  Again, cease and desist with the adolescent hysteria.  Chill. Go for a walk in the rain and spare a thought for those football fans with genuine worries.

Only repeating what I picked up on a blog… Duff and Phelps owe us the money, not Rangers IA. That money should come to us.

shoonsky-I would hope Celtic put the onus on SPL/SFA to ensure that game got played, and that they will be liable to pay in the event of the huns welching again.

    a giant step IMO

  8. On 30th May, Peter Lawell should get his typist to call Doncaster and request an adjournment of the meeting until all the facts are available.

He should then make himself unavailable to all callers.

There is a precedent and I am sure that the request will be granted as easily as that of Duff and Phelps.

  9. Thanks for the replies. I was under the impression that 1200AM today was the deadline for payment (from previous posts?)

That means that all the people who contributed to the years of shame and cheating do not have to apologise but someone who may have had absolutely no part in it should apologise.

  13. When we refer to Rangers as having had a sectarian signing policy for over 100 years, is that actually true? I thought I read that they were pretty much the same as other clubs until the influx of Belfast`s Harland & Wolff workers brought their brand of bigotry with them? Then, of course, the policy was officially changed during Souness` time.

I am not discussing moral rights and wrongs here, but I would like to know if they really have been The Horribles ALL their existence.Anyone?

Is it not time we put a lawyer into action on this station. They are playing their part in unfound allegation that is being stated by Celtic supporter on a daily basis.

They must have a duty of care as the allegations are departmental and deformation of Rangers and when each calerl states the allegations they must be asked what evidence they have.”

Excellent on tha radio today. having all these media hacks scrambling to get a word or question in was brilliant. Although they won’t admit it publicly they will realise that the opinions of your good self and the equally good people of this forum are more valued by the Celtic community than theirs could ever hope to be. Well done fella.

DK missing the point that EBTS gave Rangers a sporting advantage. It was only that Celtic went into unsustainable debt in the same period that Rangers title haul was not greater.

Did Rangers win those two titlles in 2003 and 2006 because they had a better team than they would have otherwise. You bet yer auld granny.

There is no cross over between using debt to buy trophies and fraud to buy them and if EBTS were misused then the other clubs were defrauded.

Guidi agrees with DK. No a brain between them.

  24. One thing about listening to Sportsound tonight was how calm and professional “internet bampot” Paul Brennan sounded, compared to veteran pundits Jim Traynor and Chic Young.

Paul’s points were sane, measured, thoughtful, and brought something new to the debate (specifically the issue on the rush-to-vote)

Traynor and Young both took a lot of airtime to say precisely nothing, and managed to convey an attitude of brash rudeness and deep ignorance.

Incidentally, I see Mark Daly has been given a hour slot for his next show.

Eek! You only get 59mins 30secs on BBC if you have something really worth saying…

  26. @alextomo: New TOMOBLOG coming soon for you on where Rangers now might attempt to go – it’s no stronger than that.

Listened to you as i drove home and you put in a good shift in that difficult setting where you must pitch your tone amongst the child-like utterances and magical thinking of your average Scots sports journos.

Disagree with the view that the Club statement was unnecessary. Though it pinned us to no clear course of action, it will, at least, prevent Chico and co from presenting Celtic as a surefire vote to save Rangers for the next couple of days.

Now, whilst happy with the club’s actions, can I ask why we voted in favour of changing the voting structure from 11:1 to 8:4 for the SPL newco vote since that seems to make achievement of our aim less likely?

Even if your response is that the vote count is irrelevant because it will never come to that, why loosen our grip on the 11:1 voting structure on this one occasion as it may embolden other clubs to seek a move away from 11:1 on all issues in order to lay their hands on more of the money contributed by our fans to our club?

  28. SIlver City

once the administrators are apponited they are personally responsible i.e. as individuals for any liability incurred after that date so it would be unbelievable that they will no be in a position to not pay us. There is no reason to pay quickly as I am sure that MSM would have field day saying Celtics pursuit of debt pushed Rangers into liquidation.

SSB meanwhile continues it’s brilliant pantomime:

Our Hero is a shyster. He lied. Hiss boo.

LTSB currently owned by tax payer and ensured a deal was done that a kinght of the realm would not have to put a company of his into liquidation while getting 100% back for tax man and that was to provide a war chest for Swally? Boo hiss. Bad men. Have an investigation and spend more tax money.

What about league titles under EBT? Can’t comment under investigation.
