Moussa’s violation

632

When the players arrived at Lennoxtown for training yesterday morning, Brendan Rodgers had no intention of allowing Moussa Dembele to leave the club.  Such was the player’s behaviour over the following two hours, the manager’s view changed to “Get him out of here.”

Yet again, the days ahead of an important game were clouded by distraction, but this time it took the form of insubordination against the manager.  Brendan’s view changed from not wanting to be left with only two strikers, to insisting the player was shipped out of the club.

One photographer, there for the press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game, told the manager, “I’ve been doing this for 30 years and never seen behaviour like that.”

You and I have seen many come and go over the years, so losing one is nothing new.  Receiving £20m also breaks a barrier in what we can ask for our players in the future, but the manner which this came about is a source of regret.  Moussa is a great player, one who delivered for us when it mattered most.  His goals and swagger were a joy to watch.  Now, the memory of his achievements have been violated by his behaviour.  Having a go at the manager on Twitter, where he talked about being lied to (utter rubbish) and ‘Liked’ a comment from Chris Sutton saying he was targeting Brendan, all while playing to “Bhoys and Ghirls” is deplorable. I’ll get over it and applaud politely when you do the Paradise Windfall 15 years from now, but we’re not buying it, Moussa.

Lots to say on the transfer window, but I’ll pick up on it more next week.  We have a game tomorrow against an outfit who think they can win the league.  This is a day for Brendan and Scott Brown, Dedryck, Kieran, Callum, Tom and the others to do what they do so often against Newco.  It’s a day for you and me to lift the team and paint Glasgow green and white.

Last month was traumatic, but it was also cathartic.  We are a united club with a bit of an edge right now.  Do your thing, Celtic.  Spank this lot one more time.

In a turbulent period , you often get new names appearing on the blog. Some times the old familiar names are best ,whether you agree with their views or not.

  2. Jobo I listened to the Etims podcast and they absolutely slaughtered Paul and Hsrry Brady. Sadly i would agree with their analysis. Hh

  3. Gerry, You are a good ghuy, never fear.

I love CQN have met many good people from this place, had my stag doo at CQN 10, I read P67s articles but fur me P67 is just a Celtic fan and o disagree with my family & friends in a daily basis about Celtic…. Psul67 isn’t the be all and end all but I treat his article the same as your or any other post I read …. Surely all about opinions, again, I like your posts but sometimes when the going is good you don’t post so for me that’s a negative :-)

    Hail Hail

  7. Will be watching the game tomorrow, with a 07.00am kick-off on Cape Cod. Will need a special Cape Cod breakfast prepared. Coffee to start, then a huge lobster washed down with some Chardonnay.

When in NYC I always try to get a meal at Sparks Steakhouse and sometimes visit 21 Club for the ambience, although I think its very expensive.

    Citypass is a great deal.

Agree I think the “Hotel/Exhibition” strategy is a huge distraction……However, back to my point about Corporate Governance and a clear Management Strategy……That exciting opportunity in another company would have been hived off to a separate management team with skill in that arena(reporting to the CEO)…….not so in our PLC!!!. The Controller/Emperor.has to run everything…. ….ach am too bored now …but you get the drift….The point is if he was focussing exclusively on our core competence- FOOTBALL …..would he have made such a “horlicks” of that transfer window…..

He is 60 and it must be very tiring being the Control Obsessive of every part of our business…….

    This will not end well!

I was late in getting involved with the internet. Never thought it would catch on.

When I did finally relent, my first observation was that the internet, even the timternet, was an incredibly bitchy and back-biting arena, full of petty rivalries being avenged. For all the good that the internet does in allowing information to by-pass censorship, it has a dark side in its tendency to spread false information quickly and to promote rudeness as the first choice in social intercourse, because you have seeming anonymity.

I am not surprised that e-tims and KDS or The Huddleboard call out rival sites or sees themselves as the true voice of Celtic, but there is no such thing.

Well, apart from Peter Lawwell and Dermot Desmond obviously :-)

  10. Corry lawwell is a one trick pony. Despite what paul67 has said he hasn’t built professionalism into every aspect of Celtic.

You were not at CQN10 – you were at CQN11, at table next to me

    Now hopefully good news ?

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted a full inquest with the club’s powerbrokers into the travails endured during the transfer window will be required to ensure lessons are learned and a repeat avoided.

The Irishman conceded a window that should have been “straightforward” – with the bolstering of defence and midfield with four new arrivals – ended up “not ideal” and brought a final sour note as Moussa Dembele forced a £19.7 million move to Lyon in the closing hours.

Rodgers, as he says is standard, will meet with largest shareholder Dermot Desmond and chief executive Peter Lawwell over the international break for a transfer window debrief. On this occasion, though, there will be more profound failings to discuss.

Losing out to Aston Villa on top target John McGinn and the situation that developed with Dedryck Boyata’s non-appearance for European games following the club’s refusal to accept a £9m bid for him from Fulham set the tone for a grim few weeks. The furores created by these sagas may eventually have been eclipsed by a training ground argument the Celtic manager had on Friday with Dembele – in which it is alleged the Frenchman was told he would “never” play for Rodgers again because of his attitude. That led to Celtic giving up on their previous stance of refusing to sell him without a replacement, while a season-long loan deal for £13m Leicester City central defender Filip Berkovic and the recruitment of midfielder Youssouf Mulumbu proved the Scottish champions’ only incoming business in the closing days of the window.

Rodgers, pictured, who this lunchtime faces Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, confessed there were “clearly things we can improve on and get better [with]”.

“We work with what we have,” was the Celtic manager’s response when asked if the squad was stronger or weaker now than at the end of last season. Stuart Armstrong, Patrick Roberts, Erik Sviatchenko and, now, Dembele have all moved on over the summer. “It’s clear it hasn’t been an ideal window for us but we’ll review it, we’ll look at the processes and everything else around it.”

Rodgers gave a straight “yes” to being asked if he wanted “to avoid having a window like this again”.

“I felt it was a straightforward window for us, and it was two-fold: keep the players we wanted to keep, then add the quality into key areas of the field. Which I didn’t think was many. But it’s never as straightforward as it should be sometimes. We’ll review it all and try to ensure in the next one we can be better. Listen, [the meeting] is nothing new. You have to review.”
