Mulgrew call signals primacy ahead of Efe and Dedryck

612

With the arrival of Dedryck Boyata, Jozo Simunovic and Erki Sviatchenko over the last 12 months, Charlie Mulgrew must have wondered if he would be offered a new contract which his current deal expires next month. Especially so considering how little football he’s played in recent years.

An incoming manager would be excused for looking at his squad and thinking Charlie was surplus to requirements, but, as we have touched on in recent weeks, the story of Celtic’s defence is more complicated.

Erik has been an unqualified success, but Jozo missed most of the season through injury, while Dedryck and Efe Ambrose suffered unfortunate (cough) spells of form. Charlie is a few years past his Player of the Year prime, but he’s a reliable consistent defender, who I’d have in the team before Efe or (Euros bound) Dedryck.

We have a bloated squad and need to move players on, but it’s no surprise Brendan Rodgers let Charlie know he wanted him to stay. He’s the right player to occupy third or fourth spot in the central defensive roster.  We’ll wait and see if Jozo can grab second spot.

We have newspaper advertisements bought and paid for mostly by CQNers.

These ads were put back one week at the request of the Res 12 guys.

We had to wait. So did Celtic. BRTH has been working flat out on this and all four have said that they are at one with Celtic.

When the Res 12 guys are ready Celtic will issue their statement. You will be free to disagree with what they say but we have seen the folly this week in hastily issued and ill considered statements being issued.

There is talk that 44,000 tickets have already been sold and there is a waiting list which will open when renewal deadline ends.

Celtic have delivered on the manager, the budget for new players and Res 12 yet you are still moaning.

Life is too short, go see Celtic while you can. I went to see Tommy G the other day, he’d love to be able to get to the games.

For the recent St Johnstone game in Perth I organised with GIGGSY to bring the bus to his front door and with St Johnstone to drop him off at the turn styles. We planned to ask supporters in low down seats to move to let Tommy sit there.

He was excited about it but on the day he was too worried to go through with it and was hugely disappointed.

Contrast that with the angst and misery you revel in.

WE ARE CELTIC SUPPORTERS, FAITHFUL THROUGH AND THROUGH.

I’ve been singing from largely the same hymnsheet as you since I’ve been on here.

    And long before that,in fact.

    But…

From what I have seen, recent events have taken the turn that we’ve been asking for.

A proper football man in charge of all football operations.

A proper budget promised,to be spent on players requested by that manager.

Non-footballing staff,no matter how senior,to stick to the areas in which they are qualified.

I’m the first to admit that much of the above is still awaiting the proof of the pudding, and also that much of what you have said is true.

    Again,but…

I’m happy looking at the future as I see it. Don’t make yourself miserable by looking at the past as we both saw it.

Hope springs eternal, bud. And it’s a much happier place than misery and despair.

  3. Traditionalist. I know hindsight is 20 20 but the boards performance is not solely about appointing an inexperienced manager.

As for not being on the site I have had an awful week in work so have been distracted (to say the least). But hey ho beleive what you like.

  6. For some it doesn’t matter what Celtic do, they will remain painted in the corner of their own bitterness, unable to move and unable to enjoy what small victories we have. I feel sorry for those unable to enjoy special moments in Celtics history, sure there are a lot of things round the club that could improve, that’s life but appointing Brendan Rodgers last week and the continuing Res 12 fight are huge steps in the right direction.

And unfortunately for some such is their bitterness against the club they can only snipe from the sides again unable to be part of the changes the club will go through. Misery loves company so they say.

It’s been an overwhelmingly positive blog since last week and again for some that is not enough. Most of us aware of the shortcomings of our club but are painted as scapegoats and sheep by this still bitter minority. As far as I remember buying a season ticket has always been a matter of free will and a mans right to choose what the feck he does with his money.

So to all those who have invested in Celtic’s future Hail Hail and thank you, oh how I wish I could be In Paradise today queueing up to get mine.

Haters always gonny hate that’s all they got.

We have Celtic, the good the bad and the downright indifferent and thank God that we do.

  7. Passwords is it?

Wee tip given to me some time ago.

Step 1 – construct a short but complicated series of characters (include a capital and a number) that only you will remember – e.g. 69T3ag8

Step 2 – start – or end – all of your soon to be established new passwords with the name of the site or institution

Step 3 – begin the process of changing your passwords every time you visit a new site

So, for example your CQN password would be CQN69T3ag8, your bank BANK69T3ag8, your bookie might be PP69T3ag8, etc etc.

    2 downsides –

some sites put a limit on passwords, e.g. between 6 and 8 characters

if someone learns your ‘core’ part you could be quickly goosed!!

But as a general principle I personally find it easier than remembering loads of different passwords.

    Back to workin….

But I know if you still lived in Scotland you would be there religiously,as would I.

Any disagreements in the pub about the board-in my experience-are shortlived. Soon replaced by happier thoughts.

Fair enough – however, you are now searching for reasons to stick it to the club.

We know for a fact they have worked with the resolutioners on Res 12 for a significant period of time.

The club literally cannot win with you because if they had appointed a lower profile, perhaps inexperienced manager you would have had a field day(and you wouldn’t have been alone…but given recent events its time to reassess your position surely?)

My only concern is that supporters like you should be back where you belong supporting the team and enjoying these good times, because you’ve earned it.

  11. Winnings thanks for the update and I do agree with the get the statement that right. Slightly worried about what Celtic will say on res12 per the “free to disagree” point. We shall see I guess.

As for still moaning I am really happy we appointed Brendan. You will forgive me for being sceptical on player budget. As for res12 I will be happy to adjust my stance but given what has gone it’s an actions speak louder than words point for me.

Celtic just haven’t dealt with the cheating. And my concern is that, emboldened by what is clearly healthy season book sales, they never will. Revel in misery? Or face up to reality?

Bobby I hope that Celtic see this through properly now. But I fear the board haven’t been held accountable and have learned nothing.

I agree that the board haven’t been held accountable. But they have been found to be accountable.

That much is plain, their roles redefined within original parameters.

If it’s window-dressing,we will soon find out. The Plc blinked at our anger in the last six weeks and have largely met our requests.

  30. What fight on Res 12? Celtic have had 4 years to reform the SFA and put right all lies emanating from SFA. They have done exactly NOTHING. LMS should be overturned. Celtic should be looking for stolen titles with other clubs and to get rid of an official who stage managed the death and rebirth of the huns. They have done nothing. I watched dreadful Celtic teams in the past. Always turned up and supported team till final minute. But now Celtic are behind the scam (if you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem)
