Mulgrew call signals primacy ahead of Efe and Dedryck

612

With the arrival of Dedryck Boyata, Jozo Simunovic and Erki Sviatchenko over the last 12 months, Charlie Mulgrew must have wondered if he would be offered a new contract which his current deal expires next month. Especially so considering how little football he’s played in recent years.

An incoming manager would be excused for looking at his squad and thinking Charlie was surplus to requirements, but, as we have touched on in recent weeks, the story of Celtic’s defence is more complicated.

Erik has been an unqualified success, but Jozo missed most of the season through injury, while Dedryck and Efe Ambrose suffered unfortunate (cough) spells of form. Charlie is a few years past his Player of the Year prime, but he’s a reliable consistent defender, who I’d have in the team before Efe or (Euros bound) Dedryck.

We have a bloated squad and need to move players on, but it’s no surprise Brendan Rodgers let Charlie know he wanted him to stay. He’s the right player to occupy third or fourth spot in the central defensive roster.  We’ll wait and see if Jozo can grab second spot.

    Twist,

I agree. But i think there’ll be more than Brendan who embarrass him.

Surely Warbiola going would herald the return of The Fat Gardner, let’s hope so:))

Might pop off to FF and plant that seed:))))

That defence? It’s putrid. Two central defenders the worst I’ve ever seen in oldco and newco history.

Two full backs who simply can’t defend.

Midfield with no vision, no creativity. They’ll make Barton look like Messi.

Kenny Miller? Good honest player but another year older and likely to get 20 goals at best as main striker.

    Can’t wait for next season.

  4. In No Doubt..I would Love the Treble From BR…Will be Disapointed if we dont get it…I Want him to write LEGEND underneath his name in the Role of Celtic Managers…Europe..i can wait…But Treble First Season is What I Want…

  12. Wee warbo won’t be leaving thems any time soon.

    Not that we should worry.

I’ll give the guy his due’s, he has managed to get some piss poor football players, to at least be brave enough to pass the ball, instead of hoof it.

I also think he has galvanised an average bunch, and certainly gets the best out of them.

And there the praise stops. I also believe Warbo is one dimensional , in his style and tactics. 4-3-3 all the way. He admitted himself, there is no plan B.

And in line with everything above, I believe next season he will be playing a dangerous game.

Because when the fluffy football (with a squad of below average players) isnae working at Tyncastle, up at Pittodrie , Mcdermaid Park, Fir Park etc… then there is a need to match these teams physically, and at times win ugly. I don’t foresee they have this in their locker.

All that said…. F’ck them. It’s not about whether they finish 5th or 4th….. It’s about what we do.

Qualifying for Champs league Group stages would be the beginning of a magic season.

So, ‘Rangers fans are fair game’ says an Ibrox supporters group (Evening Times).

I posed the question last Sunday, can anyone give me a club, dead or alive, who’s fans have a worse European and domestic track record than the Huns? If anyone can, let me me see their roll of horror to justify it.

And now the same mob squeal like a pig because Hibs taunted them at Hampden with an almighty giruy right in their faces, just as last year when the mini Motherwell ultras dished out some stick their way.

After Barcelona 72, the Huns had one leg to stand on. Post Manchester 08 they’d none.

The bully is now being bullied, and they don’t like it. Hell slap it.

They really are a very inclusive lot.
