Newco cannon fodder plans

804

While I was busy telling one of my first bosses how much money we were going to make in a year or two, he made a comment which has remained with me since, “If you don’t make some sales next month, we’ll not be around to find out if you’re right.”

Plans for 2022 don’t mean a fart to a company which is haemorrhaging cash, billionaire funders, nomads and auditors, all the consequence of a two year war of attrition as newco Rangers tried to fight off an insurrection.

There are literally thousands of metrics you can use to compare the prospects of football clubs but let me draw your eye to a couple, which will give you real insight into the future.

Last season Celtic had 475 “full time equivalents” in employment, 318 people in non-football roles and a further 157 in football operations (players, coaches etc.).  If the average pay of those 318 non-football full-time staff was £25k (I doubt it’s this low), their combined wage bill would be just below £8m.  Celtic’s total annual wage bill was £37.766m, total operating expenses were £59.885m.

If you want to win the Scottish Premiership, this is what you’re competing against.

Newco Rangers announced operating expenses (before amortisation) of £15.684m for the six months to 31 December, which included £6.7m wages, covering both football and non-football staff.  If the figures for the second half of the year are consistent with the first that would give them around £31m income and a £13.4m spend wages.  Income is around half Celtic’s expenses and wages a fraction of Celtic’s

What newco need is tens of millions of pounds of investor cash, the £50m Dave King spoke about ‘when in opposition’ is not an overestimate.

Anything they say before “Here is the £50m investment we need” is there to take attention away from the fact that they haven’t said “Here is the £50m investment we need”.  When they say that, they’re in the game, until then, they’re cannon fodder.  When they stop talking about the £50m needed, they know it’s not coming.

If as suggested we’re able to spare LH, Chico Mulgrew must be nearly ready, Rogic

must still be seen as having a chance.

It’s just that a good few in the support reckoned LH was overdue a run, and next in line – who are we to know mind you.

King PR guy Wilson trying to get Cathro to Sevco. So blatant. Wonder if it’s purely off his own bat, or if his masters have put him on an errand. Great value for the BBC licence money, eh?

A rare highlight in Them’s accounts:

“Revenue fell £100,000 to £13.1m, though the club earned £1.3m from hosting the Commonwealth Games rugby sevens.”

“Nurse, nurse, what can you give me for aching sides?

In fact, I’ve had this for the last 3 years, please tell me it’s cronic.”

    HT,

I’d have liked him to stay and played but I think he’ll get more game time ‘ower by’.

  12. Now I maybe biased as young Liam lives a mile down the road from me in a leafy suburb of the Burgh, but I rate the young Mhan as our best youth prospect for many a year.

I know Celtic coaches have likened him to the maestro because of similarities in their play.

I think RD rates him highly.

I take this move to Rosenborg as positive for Liam’s development and that he is being sent for game time in anticipation of more game time next year for us .

Also , I think that RD must be ultra confident of the treble !!!

    Great times indeed

Stv news headlines mention the £500,000 cost to nufc if sevco get promoted

Sitting here thinking .. Back in the rangers / minty days they would have waved that amount off as chicken feed

    Edit.

…….and the SMSM would have hailed it as a piece of business genius.

  16. sixtaeseven - Gardez la Foi on

Haven’t read back and just skimmed over the BBC Scotland version of the accounts (I know, I know…)

    BUT

is there any mention in the said accounts about money being owed (to MA et al ?).

Surely you can’t publish figures showing profit/loss over 6 months without taking account of the hard/soft loans taken on during that period?

Genuine question, btw, because I know nowt about owt regarding corporate (or even individual, i.e., my) financials.

Will be pleased to read any comment from more financially-aware Tims!

    Merci bcp!!!

  17. Paul67 et al

You never know which loan to which club is going to the right one, but given Ronny knows the score, Rosenborg could well be the right one for Liam. Two players, Harry Kane, and Ryan Mason, rarely played for Spurs over the years, the latter probably only a handful of games until this season. Both have been round the block, and both are in the England squad for the match against Italy in Turin tonight. Kane starts, Mason on the bench! (no jokes allowed).

Yeah mate. His younger brother is with Celtic and apparently a great player.

Liam has another brother apparently the best player in the family but had health issues as a child which has affected prospects .

    A talented family

  20. thomthethim for Oscar OK on

Perhaps Burghbhoy can confirm, but I think Liam would have jumped at the chance of three months regular football.

Jason Denayer would no doubt agree.

At his stage, it could mean the difference of making the grade or not.

Ronny obviously believes that this will bring him up to speed for the qualifiers and to hit the ground moving very fast!

Henderson being in Norway will have no bearing on whether we win the remaining competitions in which we are competing.

He is a class player, but still has much to learn, not least his on field temperament.

He is inclined to be a bit rash in the tackle.

Good luck, son. You are doing the right thing.
