Operation Get Lawwell Out

837

When Tony Mowbray was in charge of Celtic the club wrote to the SFA regarding the standard of refereeing in Scotland almost on a weekly basis.  The outcome of this correspondence was not constructive, if anything, some at the Association hardened their stance.

A lot has subsequently happened.

Yesterday’s Sunday Mail referred back to Celtic’s dialogue with the SFA during Mowbray’s tenure, which I found interesting.  Soon after, when a referee was found to have lied to Neil Lennon (and his supervisor), the association were vulnerable.  Wounds opened at that time which have not healed.

The ‘paper suggested Peter Lawwell is “Driven, obsessively controlling, politically statute, manipulative.  A master of the dark arts.  There’s nothing he won’t do to get Celtic what they want.  No-one he won’t attempt to control to get it”.

Quite a character assassination.  I wonder what they’re worried about?

We are also told that our chief exec has “An over-arching influence on every facet of the Scottish game. He could have had a crack at sorting it for everyone.  But no. That wouldn’t have sold any season tickets, would it?”

Those of you who bought a season ticket on the back of Peter Lawwell’s letter must feel the club went to extraordinary lengths to win your business.  The article shared the fantasy many football fans have that Peter Lawwell being on the SFA board means Peter Lawwell controls the SFA.  He doesn’t, but he is a formidable advocate of reform.

So what are they worried about?  From my perspective, pretty much everything.  The old ways were liquidated, we’re living in times with only one Super Power.  The old ways are gone and they are never coming back.

Calls for Peter Lawwell to resign from the SFA board because he “wouldn’t recognise the greater good” are laughable.  Those who interpret subtext will know this reads ‘Lawwell is an animated asker of difficult questions’.

What started five years ago with DVDs arriving at Hampden showing Robbie Keane yards onside has gotten a whole lot more serious, and personal, judging by the sustained attack on our CEO.  If you think this is about Celtic writing a letter about a referee decision a week ago you couldn’t be further from the truth.

Never try to manipulate a master of the dark arts.

This year’s CQN Golf Open will be held on Friday 24 July at Aberdour Golf Club. This is our 11th annual event and looks set to be a cracker once again. We shall be raising funds for one of our nominated charities and there will be a number of fundraising activities both on the day and in the weeks leading up to the event.

Please keep an eye open for details. Cost for the golf day is £80 including the meal at night. There are a limited number of night time places for non-golfers, cost £45.

To apply for a place, please contact cqnopen15@gmx.co.uk

Plenty extra soft bog roll, some lime cordial to add to the drink, and stay near the toilet at all times!

Hope you get told everything’s well.

Yes, Leigh’s finishing is excellent but he needs to improve other aspects of his game to play in Europe. He is easily brushed off the ball even in Scotland. Retaining possession is vital against good teams who won’t give Leigh so many goal-scoring opportunities.

Cheers, that will be the highlight of my trip, cheering on the hoops.

Another pub for Mrs ZMB to be dragged into to watch the hoops.

She is still a wee bit miffed from the Arabs drubbing on Sunday.HH

Just watched the penalty again, and yes it was a penalty, and wee Leigh scored.

  8. Good evening all.

A very snowy ML10 it is. Thank feck it’s summer. I have noticed a lot of posters decrying supporters who are renewing their ST. Well, my position is, I have supported Celtic all my life. I worked for 52 years unable to afford a ST. Paid on demand. I am now in the position, through hard work and careful pension plans, to afford a ST. If these guys think, in any way, they will talk me out of supporting, and investing, in my team, they are on the wrong blog. KTF.

  10. Perversely, I find myself wishing the SPFL had stuck to their guns when they rescheduled Hearts v Sevco to Sunday.

A victory for Hibs at Falkirk on Saturday and only 50 diehard or stupid bluenoses turn up for the Tynecastle dead rubber.

Worth the risk? I think so.

the latest rumor seems to be that Sevco will let ST holders in for free to their play offs … apparently, this way they wont have to give as much money to the league.

I think if they really wanted to make money, let the zombie fans in for free, make them watch sevco play, and then charge them a fortune to get out!

THG plays for Bournemouth v Bolton tonight,a win and they should be promoted to EPL

  17. bournesouprecipe on

I posted months ago, when they were interchanging between gardners and managers, that they were a given, for the play offs.

A mere formality, for any new club that can manage to score in the fifth minute, of three minutes injury time.

The inception of Sevco to the SPL for next season is a fait accompli.

Starry plough and a few others mentioned photographer and excellent DJ (he doesn’t speak just plays great music), Nick Peacock, earlier.. He came from a sticky bun background but is a big celtic fan.

Nick was pally with Arthur Haggerty of Willie Molloy ( Tim’s brother) fame, that’s how I got to know him. A real top bloke who I haven’t saw in over twenty years.

A few of the Green Brigade were at the launch of Cosgrove’s book, Detroit 67 and had a great time. A friend in work is in the Green Brigade and told me how good a night it was plus Nick playing some great songs that that year.

Something big happened for us 1967 but can’t think what.

  19. Latest Huns idea rakes the biscuit. Are they really THAT thick?

They desperately need cash and will now have an opportunity to get up to three games – hopefully only one though – but it seems that in order to spite the SPFL who take a 50% levy they would rather let their ST holders in free than share money.

In fairness to the Huns, Hibs did exactly the same at their tie with Hamilton, charging £10 for adults and a fiver for concessions.

This is one get it up them move I don’t disagree with them. They will have costs to absorb and nothing at the gate such is their level of spite. Lovely stuff. They don’t even get the TV money which all goes to the SPFL.

No offence to Neil Lennon’s team but all the best to Bournemouth tonight. Would be a tremendous achievement for the club, the town and of course our man Artur Boruc.

  21. Zico, ParkheadcumSalford,

    Good Luck Ghents.

As for Peter Lawell, he(we)are under attack.

    FFS stick together.

What do you expect him to do?

He has buried the Hun, the zombies are close to extinction and still he gets criticised.

Perfect he ain’t, but right now he is one of ours under attack. Defend him.

Well said Weefra. The huns love nothing better, than to see loads of empty seats @ Paradise. It’s the only consolation they have, they think it’s all because of their demise, that we’re not going. All this talk of boycotts, is playing right into their hands.

  28. Wonder what Neil Lennon is thinking tonight? Has has done OK at Bolton so far but it was a strange decision to go there as they are saddled with huge debts of almost £200 million. I would think he should get out of there pronto before his reputation is destroyed as i think it might be next season.
