Other Scottish clubs would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist

1234

There comes a time during any endeavour when you have to ask, is this worth all the hassle?  News revealed by Phil MacGiollabhain last week and swiftly picked up by the newspapers today that an SFA executive has had his life threatened for what some regard as holding a firm line on application of the game’s rules, are one of these occasions.

This is sport, it is not the struggle against apartheid.  It really, really, isn’t worth putting your life on the line for.

The SFA executive who received the threat has not been named but he will hopefully find a degree of fortitude in the face of such intimidation.  We have called for resignations from the SFA but not under these circumstances.  If the recipient of the threat continues to work as normal they should be commended for their bravery.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to put football back on solid ground but whatever our game looks like in future, it must take on a different face.  Ordinary football fans want their sport back, a sport where honesty and endeavour can be rewarded by success on the field.

That will have consequences for us.  Celtic are far too powerful for any other club in Scotland to genuinely compete.  35 of our 41 clubs figured out they can do without Rangers and 34 of them know they can do without Celtic too.

They should remind Sevco rules are there for a reason and tell Celtic to stop mumbling about finding another league to play in and go do something about it.  I could not be more convinced that every other club in Scotland would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist.

Question is, do the rest of the clubs have the balls to do something about it?  Is the ‘Arab Spring in Scottish football’ over, or does it still have another chapter?

    garcia lorca,

there was one wee sentence you seem to be missing the importance of,

Celtic voted against the price increase, the crux of my argument all day.

Today a quarter of the stadium is taken up by corporate money, not who the game needs IMO

There’s a picture on the Green Brigade site of the 3 statues outside Parkhead last night with the sun setting behind them.

I don’t know how to copy it but if you do then give me a shout and I’ll give you my log in if you don’t have one.

That’s the BBC using hun talk for: Strathclyde police are investigating rangers for fraud and have told the SFA to back off in case it prejudices their case.

    kayal33,

so the Rangers FC Plc license to play football in Scotland, a license Rangers FC Plc dont qualify to hold. Will be transferred to newco scotland, a real estate companly who use football players to keep the seagulls off the grass, that recently were granted an associate membership for the sfa, which requires 6 years according to the written rule, to gain full membership, which enables an application to play professional Football in Scotland.

    So its sorted then

I think the “Willie Wallace” game to which you refer was the League game at Tynecastle in January ’66 when Wille scored twice in a 3-2 Hearts win.

Celtic had just returned from playing Dinamo Kiev in Tblisi in the 2nd leg of the European Cup Winners Cup and their flight had been subject to delays and diversions with the team arriiving in Glasgow at around 10:00 pm on the Friday evening. Jock took them to Celtic Park and put them through a training session at 11:30!

There was much talk of the Tynacastle game being postponed however it went ahead and ten man Hearts won 3-2.

The other game, the cup-tie in March at Tynecastle, was “over-crowded”, and as I posted earlier the crush outside the Gorgie Road end was scary.

You will no doubt remember the sign above that entrance “BEWARE OF PICKPOCKETS” which was very apt given the fact that Hearts had increased the admission price from 4/1 to 5/-.

Incidentally, Joe did score in both those Tynecastle games.

Finally, on the subject of North Korea, one for the CQN book club.

“Nothing to Envy – Real Lives in North Korea” by Barbara Demick.

…” an utterly compelling account of life in this most reclusvie of societies”

    I can recommend it.

  11. so southhampton want kayal 5 million and hooper 6 million, blackpool want mccourt 750k and QPR want Ki 7 million. Just under 19 million for 4 players. for me kayal is worth more than 5 million so we should, if we wish, get something like 22 million for 4 players. ki yes, paddy yes, hooper maybe, kayal no way. murphy, radumssion, bangurra, thompson, wilson in a heartbeat.

why are the club allowing the media to suggest that we need to sell due to loss of rangers. we lose about 2 million if no t.v deal is done which is unlikely and £40 x 35000 for two old firm games. we have moved on loovens, danny, o’dea, wilson, du ria, chavi, mcginn, juarez, hooivel, towell etc… if at all possible murphy, radumssion, bangurra, thompson, wilson should be moved on asap and i suspect ki will go as well, but spare me the we need to sell and balancing the books, when the wages have clearly been substancially reduced over the last 2 years.

It’s all very funny but in all seriousness if a spectator turned up with a can of pepsi or an 8 piece kfc bargain bucket he’d probably be stuck in prison for five years.
