Other Scottish clubs would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist

1234

There comes a time during any endeavour when you have to ask, is this worth all the hassle?  News revealed by Phil MacGiollabhain last week and swiftly picked up by the newspapers today that an SFA executive has had his life threatened for what some regard as holding a firm line on application of the game’s rules, are one of these occasions.

This is sport, it is not the struggle against apartheid.  It really, really, isn’t worth putting your life on the line for.

The SFA executive who received the threat has not been named but he will hopefully find a degree of fortitude in the face of such intimidation.  We have called for resignations from the SFA but not under these circumstances.  If the recipient of the threat continues to work as normal they should be commended for their bravery.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to put football back on solid ground but whatever our game looks like in future, it must take on a different face.  Ordinary football fans want their sport back, a sport where honesty and endeavour can be rewarded by success on the field.

That will have consequences for us.  Celtic are far too powerful for any other club in Scotland to genuinely compete.  35 of our 41 clubs figured out they can do without Rangers and 34 of them know they can do without Celtic too.

They should remind Sevco rules are there for a reason and tell Celtic to stop mumbling about finding another league to play in and go do something about it.  I could not be more convinced that every other club in Scotland would be better off if Celtic Park and Ibrox didn’t exist.

Question is, do the rest of the clubs have the balls to do something about it?  Is the ‘Arab Spring in Scottish football’ over, or does it still have another chapter?

    Percy Vere,

without having a particular view on the gay marriage subject,

do you know if it was part of the SNP manifesto for the last election,

its ok saying they were democratically elected but surely they should

follow the policies they had in their manifesto

    ————————————————————————–

I don’t, any more than you, it would seem. I do believe that parties in government should follow manifesto policies unless exceptional circumstances dictate a change is necessary, so it would clearly be an issue if their manifesto policy was against gay marriage. If it’s not in the manifesto – as many things governments do aren’t – then the electoral remedy remains for those unhappy with the legislation.

Whether you agree with this legislation or not the idea that safeguards will be in place protecting the right to freedom of religious expression is absolute nonsense, European courts will not accept any safeguards.

The Herts game was the one wee Willie Wallace took from us. That’s why Big Jock went for him. The crowd was all round the track at Tynecastle and kept running on the park when the teams scored and nobody blinked an eyelid. Changed days. Think the game started late too because of the crowds and the crush. Not hard to do at the Gorgie end. Tunnel of death getting in there. You had money over for jelly and ice cream too :))

Sitting in a balmy London Square attending an open air production of Midsummers Night Dream. I knew you would rise to the historical price challenge.

In 1966 you may recall I worked the dustbins in Coventry. My gross weekly wage was £19.70 in today’s currency. A pint in the Gorbals Tavern was 1/10 for heavy and 2/2 for lager.

What needs to be borne in mind that there was a deliberate policy with the implementation of all seater stadiums to take out an element of football fans by pricing policy. The game became attractive to middle class people when previously it was almost exclusively a working class activity.

Look forward to my Glasgow trip.

So I heard on the BBC news tonight, the sfa and sfl have agreed to drop any investigation into Rangers FC Plc corruption.

No doubt its been discussed, can emday give me a summary of how the sfa can make such an agreement, iif its declared itself the appelate body.

I didn’t mention safeguards re freedom of religious expression, but I’ve seen nothing to suggest that it is under threat. I don’t believe that, for example, Catholic clergy will be forced to celebrate gay marriages. However there are – and I believe should be – limits to the freedom of religious expression, specifically where such expression involves preaching or enciting hatred or discrimination against any group, including gay men or lesbians.

    From a poster on RTC.

Now, my information from an impeccable source is that most of this is correct but importantly there is an agreed draft of the agreement to grant a licence which is subject to the approval of the various boards. (So the licence is not “done”, but almost.)

Law firms heavily involved on all sides.

Sevco will have no liability for EBT/improper registration breaches of regulations.

SPL will not commence proceedings against RFC(IA) in relation to EBTs/improper registrations until FTT decision is known.

RFC(IA) obliged to provide a copy of the FTT judgement to SPL within 7 days of receipt.

Sevco will pay domestic football debts and euro football debts and will not receive payment due from SPL for finishing 2nd last year (understood to be around £1.3m).

The investigation into the EBT/registration issue will commence once FTT findings are known.

Sevco will not be punished for any actings by Craig Whyte (and I presume David Murray by logical extension.)

No mention of stripping of titles which is still open to the SPL once the investigation concludes.

The FollowFollowers are hailing the deal as a victory for common sense and a triumph of negotiation by Charles Green.

In fact he has just kicked the EBT can down the road; established that RFC (IA) will be investigated rather than Sevco, obtained agreement that Sevco will not be penalised for prior wrongdoing by RFC(IA) and conceded some media rights.
