Our α and Ω

422

I’m getting beside myself with annoyance at the emergence of blog and online distractions ahead of the most important game of the season.  Darling-Salmond do not get my heart pounding, Henrik Larsson’s summer conversation with Celtic (he was asked if he was interested, he said he’s not ready, nothing more than that), and despite the need to sign players, they would be pointless if we don’t win tonight.

This is our Cup Final, our biggest game of the season by some margin.  This game determines what pace our development project proceeds at, what players we can attract and who we can afford.  For the season ahead, this is our α and Ω.

For the players, it is a joy.  A gift.  This is their chance to perform a task they are more than capable of in front of an appreciative crowd.  For Ronny and Johnny, it is their first stake in the ground.

Don’t assume it will be straightforward. It could be a long night, we may lose the first goal, but it takes a brave team to leave Celtic Park with the spoils on a European night. We have to remain patient early on; Maribor will tire as the game progresses. The final 15 minutes should be Celtic’s most productive.

Enjoy the game.

Took my wee Mammy to hairmyres for a scan today. She’s fine – just precautionary in relation to something else.

Was in the x-ray dept, waiting on her and noticed a very poorly looking fellow, post scan or x-ray – moving in and out of sleep.

There he was bedecked in the Hoops.

    Gives you perspective.

So, I hope that the bhoys go out and win it for him tonight. And I pray that he gets better.

It’s now time for TBJ to head to paradise where he will meet up with a gaggle of CQNrs ( not sure that is the correct term )

Nerves are jangling already but my head says we have this match in our own hands

No beers for me until I get home later tonight …. If it’s anything like Karagandy or Moscow I’m gonna need the alcoholic effect and the lubrication

Make some noise for the bhoys ;)

I’m gonna pace around the living room drinking beer for an hour or so then try and get sausage up and running, been having problems of late so any updates would be more than welcome.6-1 for the Popes eleven.

    ———-

theres plenty of help available if you cant the sausage up. dont let it spoil your night ;-)

  8. I don’t like it.

Too many sleekits at it building up the pressure.

Two evenly matched sides in terms of preparations for CL. The match is important enough but the monetary prize is of the magnitude that will have an effect on the Celtic psyche.

I think we are in for a difficult evening against a team who have nowt to lose. It’s an early test for a young management team.

I hope we prevail but won’t be surprised if we don’t and I won’t be jumping all over Ronny and Jonny if we don’t.

    Win, Lose or Draw.

  9. Jealous as feck of you Bhoys tonight…….

Think I will take him to Ibrox next Bank Holiday Weekend,to compare and contrast.

Hoping it’s a Lidl or Aldi by then though.

I think tonight will tell us a lot about Kris Commons and wither he has a future under the new regime or wither he is likely to be moving on. H.H.

  11. To all those going tonight – enjoy.

    Sing! Ye hear?

3-0 the Hoops is my confident(?!) prediction!

    HH!!

  12. The nerves are kicking in now. I’d go with the same line up again. We shouldn’t be sentimental about Commons. Johansen played his role expertly last week and has earned another shot at it. He’s more disciplined, fitter and faster, and he’s better defensively. We can always bring on Kris later if we’re in control.

  13. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

Off to the pub to watch the champs qualify for the CL. I dont buy this fatigue nonsense. The first 15 minutes will see us getting a goal and effectively killing the tie. Maribor will know they are in a game tonight. On and off the park.

If Mulgrew is out for Commons is the only change id be surprised and disappointed.

Mulgrew at left back for Izaguirre would surely be the obvious choice.

Extra height defending and attacking at set pieces…..

  16. Hopefully Kris on the bench,he is no good for a team wanting to play at high tempo which Celtic need tonight.

    Bring him on at 3-0

  22. About 15 mins to team announcement, 75 mins approx to game. Was a bundle of nerves a couple of hours ago but strangely I’m a lot more relaxed now. There is still plenty of time for a few more mood changes before kick off. I don’t like people saying Maribor are rubbish, they are not. They are certainly better than any SPFL opposition, they have their own style and are dangerous on the counter. We have the better team and we are at home and should win, but none of these things guarantee anything. We’ve all sat through games which were “One of those days” when we hit the bar the post, keeper makes incredible saves etc and we get caught by the sucker punch. I’m now no longer relaxed, I’m after spooking myself.

Efe had a great World Cup at right back.

  24. Best first half I’ve ever seen in a return leg at Paradise, under the floodlights, was Sporting Lisbon in early 80s……

We were 2 down from first leg and just blew them away.
