Paddy time, Europa and Remembrance

1055

Celtic recorded victories over Dundee and Hearts after their first two Champions League games but collected only one point from the two league games following the double header against Barcelona.  They also won after only two of their four Champions League qualifying games, so there is no reason to expect a convincing win against Inverness tomorrow.

Inverness slumped to a freak 1-5 defeat at home to Motherwell last week but that was their first defeat since the same team beat them earlier this season.  Like Celtic at the Camp Nou, they will be set on defending deeply at Celtic Park in order to prevent another collapse.  This could be an occasion for Paddy McCourt to prize them open.

I had a look at the Europa League group tables last night.  Udinese, who eclipsed us in the same competition last season, are bottom of their group this year, as are PSV Eindhoven, Sporting Lisbon, Athletic Bilbao (who beat Manchester Utd home and away last season) and Helsingborgs.  Other recent opponents Rapid Vienna and Hapoel Tel-Aviv are also bottom.

If you’re on Facebook there is a story on the CQN Magazine page about Benfica implying Celtic only beat Barcelona because of cheating.  Drop in and take a look.  On a related subject, I’ve some good material from Spartak in reserve for the days before their visit.

The Annual Remembrance Service, held by the Celtic Supporters’ Association, takes place tomorrow, in memory of Celtic fans no longer with us, with prayers offered for those departed during the last year, including Joe McBride.

The Mass, at St Michael’s at 1350 Gallowgate just up from Parkhead Cross, will start at 12:30 and should be over in around 30 minutes, after which refreshments will be available in the hall to warm you before you head to the game.  All are welcome to celebrate the memory of those who have gone before us.

Lost wedding ring alert! Someone found a wedding ring in Lisbon which was probably dropped by a Celtic fan. Let me know if you know who is walking around with their hand in their pocket this week.

Get your CQN Annual here, an enormous resource from the keyboards of Celtic fans!

i think there is another magic roundabout in Hemel Hempstead that i drove once.

    Nothing magic about it ;)

I just checked that one. It’s very similar but at least it follows the Scottish tradition of a big grass verge in the middle to slow down the panic stricken.

Id expect the players and management to put on a performance tomorrow after not playing the past few weeks and continuing that form into the Champions League, Benfica were there for the taking the other night if we were up for it. We werent.

No messing about, keep the defence the same, rest those that need rest, Brown/Samaras and play a few creatives, live a little.

I don’t know where La Marina is, but if they have a Lidl there they will have it, and @ 1.99 a bottle, it’s a bargin, and a decent drop as well.

So yes would be the answer.

They were, in a stadium where their passionless fans were lucky if they half filled their end, we didnt have enough, partially due to lack of creativity but also a lack of That motivation we had against FCB and Moscow. Apreciate we cant get up to the unreal standards of the FCB game, but if SPL games are being sacrificed for CL games the players should be upto at least 80% of that, they were not.

The SPL form creeping into CL games could do us, the Moscow game will be nervy, turn in a typical SPL performance and its knakked.

  9. Each to their own opinion, but i noticed Super Joe getting some stick recently, but for me he is magnificent. Granted he is coming back from injury but he would be my first pick when fit.

Hopefully he gets a new contract offer as the rest of the top performers have!

  10. Badbhoybubby

Lenny has said Joe is his best signing,he will be offered a new contract, deservedly IMHO.

A home team that were not much better and we had a bit of an off night, Id say we could have done better.

Had a full Blantyre v rest of world game on Estadio Nacional Wednesday, we got beat, I blame vino tinto and the rest of them, second time a Blantyre and district select has played there and we brought defeat for the first time. Im disgusted, wont be showing my face in G72 for a while.

I read your piece with interest. I posted earlier a knowledgeable friend had not read the report as of Thursday as he had been away on business but will have by now. He was not pleased said it was perverse.

Reading your piece and Mr. Thomson indicating it was not a sham, it reminded me of something my friend said to me on Thursday morning, he alluded to that some of the presentation may not have been as succinct and direct as it should have been.

Aye, just lacked the ability in second half. The equaliser seemed to bring back a bit of confidence but it was soon lost.

Pity to here about Miss Prestonpans, hope she has recovered. Im on day two of a two day hangover from out trip to Estadio Nacional, no nice.
