13 days until Celtic are in preseason action on their tour of Austria against locals, SK Vorwarts Steyr. We then face Bohemians or Prague, who the Celtic site tell us have Antonin Panenka as chairman, famous for the Panenka Chip to win the 1976 European Championships for Czechoslovakia against West Germany.
Panenka is less celebrated around these parts for being part of the infamous Rapid Vienna team Celtic faced in 1984. No photos with Moussa, please. We have two further games, against Sparta Prague, and Shamrock Rovers in Dublin, before our first Champions League qualification game.
Fair play to Newco for getting some money for the naming rights to what was previously called Murray Park. Named after the Rangers owner who authorised the EBT schemes which ultimately led to the club’s liquidation, it must have been embarrassing to have Sir David Murray’s name associated with Newco’s training ground.
As a rule, I am up for things which bring money into a club. Whether Hummel attach their mission statement, ‘We look for those who rarely win’ to the facility remains unclear.

Hi
You’re a naughty fella Paul.
Born winners every one of them.
They could call it the Rarely Win Complex.
Any idea how much old Rangers got for the naming rights, Paul? :-)

PS I taught at St. Mary’s High School, Zomba, Malawi in the early Eighties, very close to the Mpunga project the Foundation Volunteers working on. More than a football club.

Passing stats are often derided as meaningless. But they are all part of building a picture of player performance and style. Does your favourite get Pass Marks?

do you live in east york?
not much in my area of mississauga just high winds and a bit of rain.
the storm must of blown away the (de) fences at last nights tfc game.
caldwell at 3-3 the only team that wi,ll score the winner is tfc. 15 seconds later boom 4-3 dc.
they missed a sitter to win it in 93rd mnt.wife says whats a sitter!!!!!!
she is from glasgow by the way.
missed a sitter- dc united.
should say tfc lucky to draw 4_4 could have been 5down by half time instead of3 0.
I still recall that Panenka chip….took a lot of balls at such a crucial stage against a great keeper like Sepp Maier too. Alas the Czechs will be missing from the World Cup.
Must admit I am looking forward more to our forthcoming pre-season games than anything at the world cup, although I am worried that Rogic, Lustig etc will suffer the consequences of such a short break in the season ahead…though lack of form / injury. Club football is much more important given that the best club sides are better than ANY International side.
My tip as winners : Germany
Top Scorer : Neymar
Argentina. Saurez
PANENKA
Remember him playing in the game in Vienna . He looked and played like an old man . Don’t remember him playing in Manchester . Wasn’t at the game at Celtic Park -so don’t know . Rapid player who impressed me was the winger- Pacult

In the Beaches. The east end seems to have been the worst hit this time.
Did you see my chat yesterday with Tobago about meeting up for a TFC game? Let us know if you are interested.

Appropriate renaming with Stevie Git rolling in and King at the helm: ‘Crookside.’
World Cup – greatest footy show on earth, always loved it, best 4 summer weeks of a football fan’s life.
Winners: France
Golden Boot: Griezmann
Far and away the finest overall squad, time for the Gallus Gallics to get their act together again and seal the deal.
Plus the French dwarf owes me for costing me a 3 grand win at the Euros in 2016 for my Portugal/Ronaldo double….
Spain and Cavani.
NB
Democracy can be so inconvenient if the outcome isn’t what you want. Alba had the chance for independence and decided against it. The UK decided to vote to leave the EU. And I keep getting a Tory MP.

So now meeting PSG representatives in London with a view to purchasing Edouard for a reported club record of 9 million whereas we could have had him in October for half that fee, wonder what has changed to double his value. or are PSG officials aware that we are about to receive a large amount of money from elsewhere
MICKBHOY1888
The current value is based on the loan agreement whereas they were probably looking for a quick sale in Oct – but at that time he was untried and untested – we’ve had a few of those that have not gone well
off to the school run to pick up the grandsons

SoT, yes Pacult was a good player, I remember him, although I have no memory at all of Panenka. At the time of the OT match, I was unemployed and living in Sheffield so my and my girlfriend caught the train to Manchester for the game. On arriving we asked a policeman how to get to Old Trafford “Dunno” he said, “I’m up here from London, we’ve just been sent here to police the miners’ strike”. This was when the government was still insisting that there was no national movement of police to cope with the strike.

Where did that information come from? I mean both the £4.5 October millions and the £ 9 million meeting in London?
