Patrick, Moussa, Dedryck and Scott Brown

After the turmoil of Paris Saint-Germain, Celtic return to domestic duty tomorrow with the visit of Ross County. County won on the opening day of the season but have taken only one point from 15 since. They have been a soft touch for several teams in crisis recently, so in theory, this looks like a straightforward challenge for the champions.

This is the first of two games in the next five days, the other, a League Cup tie away to bottom club Dundee. After this, we go to Ibrox then Brussels. Without wanting to be overfly disrespectful to Ross County or Dundee (or, indeed, overly respectful to Newco), we should have two objectives for the next two games:

Rest limbs and minds which have been intensely exercised by international and Champions League football.

Intensely exercise limbs that have seen little action this season. Specifically Dedryck Boyata, Moussa Dembele and Patrick Roberts.

Patrick could do with a full 90 minutes. He was our best performer on Tuesday, but he’s clearly suffering from a lack of game time. Dedryck has targeted a starting place at Ibrox for months. To achieve this, he will need to play a lot of football this week.

There’s no guarantee Moussa would dislodge Leigh Griffiths from the line-up at Ibrox, even if fully fit, but the Champions League game away to Anderlecht is a different tie. This has to be his target, which leaves little time to build his sharpness.

Perhaps most importantly of all, I would rest Scott Brown tomorrow. The games ahead are simply too important to have images of a fatigued Scott fresh in the mind. Brendan should also consider a place for Lustig, Armstrong and Tierney on the bench.

Win tickets for Ibrox

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us two tickets for the visit to Ibrox on 23 September to raffle for Mary’s Meals. You know the script:

Over 3,000 children in Malawi and Liberia eat a school meal each day because of the money raised by CQN’ers.

You are improving lives, educating a generation in some of the most deprived locations in the world. School attendance has increased an average of 30%, literacy and numeracy skills improve. Life-long opportunities are enhanced.

To enter the raffle, answer this question:

Which Belgian team will Celtic face in this season’s Champions League?

Please donate a minimum of £5 to this MyDonate page. Then forward your confirmation email with your answer in the SUBJECT LINE to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Many thanks to you and Intelligent Car Leasing.

  2. Folks , whatever happened with the Dunfermline “story” ?

Is the matter still being investigated by the SFA ?

  3. Just watched highlights of the Thistle V Sevco game.

After scoring the equaliser, Dorrans attempted to grab the ball from his own player to initiate a quick restart. I have seen this many times from many players of many clubs and it always makes me smile.

The team who have just conceded are the team who will determine the speed of KO so why do those many players grab the ball and run up to the centre circle?

My own view is that it is to impress the fans or, perhaps more accurately, to curry favour with their fans as, usually in those circumstances, matters on the field are not going so well on the field for them.

So my wee run of getting the team selections of Brendan’s Celtic wrang ( 10 in a row) ended the other night, when I finally got it right or if you like as wrang as Brendan LOL.

So here goes my new run .Dont agree with the resting Broonie mob but hey ho.

Sinky hat-trick paddy and the Mousse.

  5. Team selection for today is not so predictable as normal. Many of us have been advocating resting a few players and giving game time to others but I think Brendan tends to go with his strongest side. That being so, here are two selections:

    Brendan`s team:

    Gordon

    Lustig Simunovic Bitton/Ajer Tierney

    Roberts/Forrest Brown Ntcham McGregor Sinclair

    Griffiths

    CQN Team:

    Gordon

    Ralston Simunovic Boyata Tierney/Millar

    Roberts Ntcham Armstrong McGregor Hayes

    Dembele

Happy to meet up with you and BT while the game is on … tell me where and when works to meet … am meeting CRC right after game at CQN corner… can’t remember if you have my email/phone number, but if not perhaps a mutual pal could connect us

    ………………………….

BT has my number, I will try and see him in BV BEFORE the match ?

I know a bar where we can all sit and have a good chat and laugh without being crushed by Celtic crowd AFTER the match, as all the Celtic pubs will be mobbed.

I’ll text BT later this morning mate

Interesting to read about your Dad knocking back the Bolan tickets!!

He was a genius in the early 70s. You’re right about his TV show being naff (although he did have some amazing guests at times (a but like the Ayesha TV show)). I wonder how he would have adapted and developed later. Another music icon taken too early, albeit by accident.

I think you are exactly correct. Perhaps unlike some of the foreign players, Dorrans also knows why he needs to make this futile gesture. Things can get quite ugly with their fans.

Just for the sake of clarity, my Team post was being typed before I saw yours so was not a response to yours.

Obviously 9:30 on match day is the time to start preparing ourselves mentally for the task ahead :-)

I leave at 10:45 so don`t have the luxury of considering other factors as KO time approaches :-)

  11. Anyway good morning from a bright and dry North Staffs – 2 big games today – the bhoys will want to show no hangover from Tuesday.

Meanwhile at the foot of pro-football it’s a must win for Vale – however win or lose manager needs to go.

I was not EXACTLY correct as I just noticed that I mentioned `on the field ` twice !

    Griffith

Dembele / Rogic / Forrest on from the bench after 60 mins

  14. Good article. Huns get a wee mention too…..

They weren’t like the drunken rabble of Glasgow Rangers fans who descended on Manchester for the 2008 UEFA Cup final, but in control and pleasant to be around. Eighty minutes before kick-off I walked onto the main bridge to enter the stadium. It was full of travelling fans who’d been stopped by police from going any further. The mood was orderly, good-natured.

I won’t jinx the Vale by predicting the result, but Swindon are 0-0-3 at home this season, and I’d fancy them to break their duck v Forest Green Rovers.
