Patrick, Moussa, Dedryck and Scott Brown

866

After the turmoil of Paris Saint-Germain, Celtic return to domestic duty tomorrow with the visit of Ross County. County won on the opening day of the season but have taken only one point from 15 since. They have been a soft touch for several teams in crisis recently, so in theory, this looks like a straightforward challenge for the champions.

This is the first of two games in the next five days, the other, a League Cup tie away to bottom club Dundee. After this, we go to Ibrox then Brussels. Without wanting to be overfly disrespectful to Ross County or Dundee (or, indeed, overly respectful to Newco), we should have two objectives for the next two games:

Rest limbs and minds which have been intensely exercised by international and Champions League football.

Intensely exercise limbs that have seen little action this season. Specifically Dedryck Boyata, Moussa Dembele and Patrick Roberts.

Patrick could do with a full 90 minutes. He was our best performer on Tuesday, but he’s clearly suffering from a lack of game time. Dedryck has targeted a starting place at Ibrox for months. To achieve this, he will need to play a lot of football this week.

There’s no guarantee Moussa would dislodge Leigh Griffiths from the line-up at Ibrox, even if fully fit, but the Champions League game away to Anderlecht is a different tie. This has to be his target, which leaves little time to build his sharpness.

Perhaps most importantly of all, I would rest Scott Brown tomorrow. The games ahead are simply too important to have images of a fatigued Scott fresh in the mind. Brendan should also consider a place for Lustig, Armstrong and Tierney on the bench.

Win tickets for Ibrox

Celtic sponsor, Intelligent Car Leasing, have given us two tickets for the visit to Ibrox on 23 September to raffle for Mary’s Meals. You know the script:

Over 3,000 children in Malawi and Liberia eat a school meal each day because of the money raised by CQN’ers.

You are improving lives, educating a generation in some of the most deprived locations in the world. School attendance has increased an average of 30%, literacy and numeracy skills improve. Life-long opportunities are enhanced.

To enter the raffle, answer this question:

Which Belgian team will Celtic face in this season’s Champions League?

Please donate a minimum of £5 to this MyDonate page. Then forward your confirmation email with your answer in the SUBJECT LINE to celticquicknews@gmail.com

Many thanks to you and Intelligent Car Leasing.

    BIG JIMMY.

Interesting to read about your Dad knocking back the Bolan tickets!!

He was a genius in the early 70s. You’re right about his TV show being naff (although he did have some amazing guests at times (a but like the Ayesha TV show)). I wonder how he would have adapted and developed later. Another music icon taken too early, albeit by accident.

One of my favourite all time songs, ‘life’s a gas’.

    ………………………………………..

    lifes a Gas was great.

My own personal favourites was defo No 1 …..Get it On

    Debora,

    Jeepster,

    Hot Love,

    Coast of Albany,

Elemental Child ( Marc Bolan guitar playing on that…it could have been Hendrix),

    and many more of course.

When my Dad was dropping T Rex off at the Greens in 1971…Marc and Mickey with two girls in the cab ( one being Marcs wife June Child ?)

The Girl fans ripped off my Dads wing mirrors and hubcaps from his Hackney cab. He told me if he had knew who they were when getting into the cab, and his cab getting attacked…he wouldnt have taken them ?

Marc and Mickey were complaining about their hotel ( Glasgow Central) as being like a feckin Museum !

the boys offered my dad two tickets for their gig in edinburgh the next night ( a Sunday I believe), and little did he know that as he took T Rex to the Greens in Glasgow that night me and my cousin didnt have tickets, but we managed to get two tickets from fans in the queue.

My cousin was in the balcony and I ended up in the stalls.

When the lights went up at the start, Marc was sitting alone on stage, crossed legged on the floor, and started to sing “Debora” on acoustic guitar…Magical.

just before this first gig in Glasgow my older cousin had just returned from the USA on holiday.

He was a MASSIVE Led Zepellin fan and had seen them live in the Forum.

he hadnt given T Rex too much thought UNTIL that magical night.

When we met up outside the Greens Playhouse after the T Rex gig my cousin said to me….” That was BETTER than watching Led Zep in LA” !

I saw T Rex once more when they returned some months later to Glasgow 9 Maybe 1972 ?).

From 1970 until around 1973/4 was T Rex at their peak…after that…well we know most of the rest very sad.

When my Dad told me the next morning about taking T Rex in his cab the night before and REFUSING two free tickets for the gig that night in Edinburgh…I was feckin ragin !

Not for too long though…as I had been one of the lucky ones to see Marc and the boys the night before.

Did you know that Mickey Finn retired to Jersey, and my 1st ex wife told me how she had been on holiday in Jersey an din a bar.

In walked Mickey Finn with his 2/3 dogs for a drink and they got chatting.

Lucky Bitch…I told her later when she told me of that meeting.

Great memories, but sadly Marc succumbed to drugs and drink….well according to thosae that knew him well

    Very sad.

    Marc Bolan RIP.

I think Mickey Finn is also dead now ?…I cant remember.

  3. Hope Brown is given a rest today and Ntcham took a knock on Tuesday so he may also be left out. A lot will depend on fitness of Moussa and Dedryck, will they start or will they be on the bench.

  4. Celtic FC Foundation and Glasgow NE Foodbank will be collecting before Saturday’s (September 16) match against Ross County.

This specific collection will also include the Invisibles, a local voluntary organisation aiding both the homeless community and Glasgow charity Refuweegee.

Celtic FC Foundation said: “We would like to invite all supporters who are attending the match against Ross County to bring along a donation if they can – even one item from the list can make a huge difference to someone’s life.”

A list of much-needed items includes adult men’s trainers that are no longer needed (size 6 upwards) as well as notepads, shampoo, shower gel, cartons of fruit juice, teabags, tinned fish and fruit and veg, tinned pudding and custard.

Letters written by locals for refugees arriving in Glasgow are also very welcome, as well as Scottish items you’d like to share.

Donations needed for Glasgow foodbank that gave out more than two tonnes last month

There will be three drop-off stations available at Parkhead, with the main point at the clover on Celtic Way, as well as the west and east entrance areas along Janefield Street.

    No cash will be accepted.

The foundation added: “We would like to sincerely thank all Celtic supporters for their continued backing of Celtic FC Foundation’s initiatives, including this developing partnership with the local foodbank.”

My mate had text me about it that morning, but I never saw the text as my phone was off.

My mate got it as a Tip and I think he got it at early price @ 14/1 ?

Anyway it won that day @ 7/1…and I wasnt on.

It runs again today at Chester 5.00pm and is priced at 4/1 with bet365.

Ive backed it today…here’s hoping ?

  6. Quandary on team selection for today.

Rest needed for Brown, Lusitg and Tierney. Maybe Griff’s calf too.

But Brendan often goes with a back 3 in the SPL (due to rarity of fit Centre Backs) which requires Tierney.

Roberts, McGregor need game time and Rogic has had enough time to get over his travels.

Armstrong had a shocker v PSG – if due to injury, rest him. If just an off night, play him to get him going again.

Glad it’s not me having to pick the team.

  7. BMCUW

The saving grace if Vale lose is that will be the end for Brown and his backroom staff – anyway good luck to the Robins

  8. BOBBY MURDOCH'S CURLED-UP WINKLEPICKERS on

    JIMTHETIM53

Amazing,95% of Scotsman readers are Celtic supporters. At least, that’s my understanding of the poll, given Regan’s comments.

  9. More on T REX,

I should add that when T Rex were at their peak so too were the fashions !

Being 15/16/17 years of age and a massive T Rex fan I tried to copy my hero Marcc in a fashion sense when going to the dancing on Friday/Saturday and Sunday nights every week.

Despite being just over 6ft tall, I wore Platform shoes, white denims and a Mickey Mouse or Glitter T Shirt and my BURGUNDY SATIN BOX JACKET just like Marc.

My hair was long and straight just like Mickey Finns, but I would french comb my long hair to make it look like Marcs………..feckin mental when I think back.

I remember some Glesga boys went further in their fashions to look like Marc and I saw many who also wore glitter and/or stick on Stars under their eyes going to the dancing.

I NEVER took to wearing glitter ..make up etc….as I was a real MACHO Glesga Bhoy…despite the 32inch wide flares, Platform shoes and Satin Jacket etc

The wummin loved seeing us Bhoys dressed up.

Magic days…when I didnt have a care in the world

little did I know what was in store…..Manhood and feckin Matrimony ( Twice !)

  10. Just looked at Sky programming – Gillette soccer pre match (EPL) on till 12 and Premier league world on till 12.30 – just as well only EPL supporters subscribe

  11. Celtarella

You’re no Hun, more of a honey!

With all the great tuneage last night, surprised you didn’t join in with, oh, I don’t know, maybe ‘Maggie May’, or a lesser-known Doors track or summfin.

  12. Enjoyed the T-Rex posts last night. I remember being vilified by Zep/Purple mates when I went to see ‘Born to Boogie’. I always felt lucky being able to enjoy elements of all three.

    “life’s a gas, I hope it’s gonna last”.

  13. GuyFawkesaforeverhero on

Good luck to the Celts today. Top teams play football whilst the opposition chases a ball around the pitch for the duration. Saw enough chasin’ on Tuesday so let’s get back to playing football today.

Bringing a visitor to the Kerrydale and 143 this afternoon; the Bhoys on their best goal-shooting-towards behaviour will be much appreciated. On we go, to 7IAR!

  14. Looking like a wet one at the ole Gazebo today.

I would envisage one or two changes from Tuesday’s match as we have a large squad of excellent footballers, some of whom are due game time.

What the line up will be only Brendan knows, but it looks like a pleasant conundrum to solve for the manager of the champions of Scotland.

  15. Heading back to Glasgow for the game. Stayed in Edinburgh last night with Mrs.HB. Went to see Ryan Adams at the Usher Hall. Brilliant!

Can’t believe the guff in the Times about the Sevco game. Paul Forsyth makes it sounds like a fantastic achievement to drop 2 points against 10 men and a team that had gained only 1 point from the last 5 games.

  16. MIT..MID MIG,

Hope you get this post on yer phone.

If I dont see you in BV BEFORE the game, as BT wont be there, I can meet you and others in a pub down the Saltmarket called The SHIPBANK.

I’ll be there right after the game.

No football colours allowed however, if you have a Celtic scarf stick it in yer pocket.

the sing song in the Shipbank finishes around 5.30 approx and the pub starts to empty..plenty of room for a seat and a natter etc .

  17. Gooooood early afternoon CQN

    Nearly Celtic Park time :-))

    Hail Hail

Oh Ntcham, took a knock and limped through last 10 mins on Tuesday night, and Broonie also in last 5 mins, so expect these 2 at least to be rested

Would play young Anthony at RB as well,

Start with Moussa and Dedryck for some game time ?

Brendan, this management malarkey is simples :-)))

  18. Afternoon all

Bit of a melancholy week to put it mildly. Lost my uncle Graham in the small hours of Wednesday and as I had seen him in Hairmyres on the Tuesday I was not as focussed on the match on Tuesday.

Graham was not in anyway a religious man but he was a good one I think. He was a big Celtic fan who saw the team in its heyday and in the later years of his life when his eyesight faded to life being little more than a blur he still followed the Bhoys as avidly as he could. I was disappointed we lost on Tuesday but sad because it was his last game.

    RIP Graham
