Perhaps Airdrie United could rebrand as Rangers United?

1122

I’ve spoken to a few Rangers fans over recent months, the base line of acceptability has been redrawn many times.  If you read back on what was presented as reality on 13 February, when Craig Whyte announced that while it was “business as usual” he applied to the court for a 10 day period to appoint an administrator.

Back then, administration was abhorrent, but suggestions of liquidation were regarded as outrageous.  On 22 February Celtic Quick News asked questions about Improper Registration of Football players, was it possible that Rangers results would have to be re-written as 3-0 defeats for a decade or more?

In March Rangers director (still, I believe) Dave King sent out a new baseline, liquidation was inevitable but there was no question that titles would be taken off Rangers.  Even this concession to liquidation was disputed by the Blue Knight and Duff and Phelps.  Publicly, both still hold to this line, although Duff and Phelps use some creative ideas to get there.

Most now know that liquidation is inevitable.  A few understand that the SPL inquiry into player registration is likely to result in five or more league titles being reallocated to Celtic, but I don’t hear anyone accepting the reality of the situation.

Rangers don’t have a buyer, primarily as the administrators don’t have a stadium they can sell.  Even if they try to remain in administration for next season, Ticketus own the majority of their income.  It will cost countless millions to pull a deal together, much more than the £11.2m Bill Miller considered putting on the table, and no one is coming up with that kind of money.

In the unlikely event these problems are resolved, whatever club emerged would have to deal with the fallout from players refusing to join a Newco and becoming free agents, football fines debts from Oldco, SFA penalties, Newco penalties if preferential treatment is provided in order to get them into a higher league, and SPL penalties for Improper Registration of Players.

There are two simple solutions.  Form a new club, ask to share Firhill or Love St – or better still, rent Cathkin Park (reset ambition for Rangers as the new Third Lanark), and apply for entry to the Scottish Football League.  Alternatively, co-opt a lower league club, maybe Airdrie United could help, rename it and spend however many years as it takes trying to acquire whatever parts of Ibrox survives liquidation.

This is a controlled and predictable way forward, a concept not delivered by Duff and Phelps, totally in the control of whoever wants to harvest fallout from the demise of the Rangers brand.

Jock Stein would never agree to a Newco in the SPL and dont get all nostalgic about Celtic and the Jock Stein factor. Look what the Kelly’s did to him. Celtic Pools indeed! ok so lets all be patient and wait and see what the Donuts instructions really are when its showtime.

LOL she’s doing well thanks. She’s off to Sorrento on Friday for a week. It’s a hard life.

She’s also off to Sharm in July with her sister.

Glad you reminded me of her catching you out.

Never a strong fan of the Kelly’s. However, it was Desmond White who was calling the shots in that particularly shameful episode.

Of course they will be saved, I suppose it’s how you say it :>)

In saying that, I don’t think they will be saved for next season, too many hurdles to overcome.

Assuming they are blended, cos they have no money to continue in admin, there will be a massive sell off, who gets what, who owns what, who the feck knows, they will have no ground, they will have no players, they should not have a licence, I think they don’t have enough time, and if by some miracle they overcome all these barriers, what will their playing staff look like, a bunch of kids and a few spl has beens.

One of the most embarrassing parts of Celtics great history what they did to Jock Stein!!

MWD – her indoors has been talking about going there, but it looks a tad pricey! Need to get your thoughts on the place sometime.

Not had a bad holiday in Italy yet – Tuscany, Venice, Garda and Sardinia all great.

The treatment of Stein by Desmond White and anyone else who was on the Celtic Board at the time was shameful. However, while it might have been shameful in a moral sense, it was also one of the most stupid, shortsighted, and to be frank, wholly unprofessional things I have ever heard of.

The management of Celtic from that moment on at board level was genuinely pathetic in many respects and showed absolutely no business vision whatsoever. To be frank, the then board were not unalike Dad’s army in many respects, and in later years they hid behind Jack McGinn who is a nice man, a trained journalist, and someone who had absolutely no power and therefore no say in how to run the football club.

I agree that Stein would never have said yes to a Newco and the point of the post was not nostalgia at all. Instead it was the pointing out of a fundamental fact which is that Celtic Football Club exists far and beyond the shores of Scotland and my following of the club is not in any way dependent on how this entire debacle pans out.

I know how it should pan out, I know what is fair and unfair and I know what is pragmatically achievable. I also know that the present circumstances present a positive opportunity for Scottish Football in that good can come of a Rangers liquidation– even a new look Rangers could benefit if someone has the balls to take the task on.

Anyway the land of Nod calls and tonorrow is another day Thank God,

they won’t be saved, nobody really cares about them. how much money has dingball raised? Bill Miller’s offer was £11.2M, is anyone seriously saying that there wasn’t a locus who could raise more than that? How much did the saverangers site raise? Surely Dougie Park has that as small change? after all he must make megabucks selling Bentleys to fitba’ players?

How much did the game at windsor park raise?

    What’s happening to that money?

I agree. I will always be a Tim. All of us will. The thought of the bored complicit in any way , including abstinence with a Newco will be hard to bear. Unacceptable actually. Even Desmond White despised the SFA.

    Always DIY.

Lake Garda is good with loads of great towns around the lake and easy commute to Verona (take a big hefty wallet for shopping). I also drove to Venice and stayed for a couple of days. Picture perfect. Especially so once all the day tourists have shot the craw. If you go to lake Garda be sure to hire a car and take a drive into the Austrian Tyrol taking in the Stelvio Pass. Wow!!!

Lake Como is more tranquil and picturesque than Lake Garda.

Personally, I don’t think you can beat Italy for a holiday.

When the hun are blended, there will be a Q waiting to save them,or start them up again.

Forget about the hun dipping into his own pocket, that’s no gonna happen, but they have a huge fan base in scotland, that is a potential to make serious bobs, if minty hadn’t chased the dream, they would not be in the situ they are now, all it would take is someone who realises that the dream is just that a dream, they will never do what we done.

If their ego’s can be contaierd, they will become a force again in scotland, hopefully by that time DD has us gone to pastures new.

Did a day trip to Ischia when I stayed in Sorrento. Astounding Spa Island. Could have spent a week there. Capri is also worth a trip although the bus journey up to Anacapri was hairy scarey.

Sorrento was my first adventure to Italy. Loved it but once I’d holidayed in Positano & Ravello, Sorrento felt a bit Blackpoolish. Nae offence BhodranBhoy. :-))
