Phenomenal changes ahead for Celtic Park

915

The news yesterday from Glasgow City Council that Celtic’s planning application for the areas outside the stadium had been approved will do more than deliver shrubbery to a currently derelict landscape; your match day experience is about to be transformed.

Unless your ticket is for the executive lounges, your match day will involve turning up to a cold stadium (not a lot Celtic or the Council can do about the weather) and wait for the game to start, with rudimentary access to toilets (get in early if you want a hand towel), burgers and pies.

Celtic have been buying up land around their perimeter for years and with permission to remove the derelict London Road School, they are now in a position to provide restaurants, bars, pre and post-match entertainment.  They will also be able to bring the many thousands of artefacts which tell the story of Celtic into a dedicated museum space.

Celtic Park will become a working, 7-day-a-week, tourist destination. It’s going to be phenomenal.

Plans have been before the Council for years but although they ticked all the boxes and made enormous economic sense for an area of the city badly in need of a boost, I hear one SNP councillor spoke against plans to move the superstore from its current location to a larger area, as he felt the need to protect the interests of local Asda and Tesco superstores!

Not everyone was happy to see the club, or the area, progress.

The new edition of CQN Magazine is out and packed with great articles for and by the Celtic support.  You can flick through the magazine in the graphic below but it you want to actually read it, click on the double-headed arrow at the bottom right of the graphic.

Disgusted at the redevelopment planf for Celtic park.

Where is the super casino and dolphinarium? No helipad?

    Pathetic.

  2. Gene's a Bhoy's name on

The dolphinarium is under the ski slope next to the driving range

  3. I am happy about the developments around celtic park. Future football supporters will hopefully have access to first class facilities when visiting the ground on match days and non-match days. the growing population within this area (clyde gateway) and the major/ minor sporting events in the NISA should see to the facilities being used frequently by locals, other sports fans and tourists etc… hence, the facilities should increase Celtic’s income and her ability to sign better players.

hopefully after phase 1 is complete i.e. avenue of hero’s museum and café etc… celtic will be able to convert the celtic superstore into a supporters club/ bar.

Given our c/l participation I don’t see how such investment would adversely effect the calibre of player we can attract in the summer.

its good to see celtic trying to diversify the business side of things and improve the physical environment to generate new income.

    hail hail

SAF achievements were remarkable, but a better comparison to Big Jock is Bill Shankly at Liverpool. Both teams were struggling badly before they came in .Man U had a European Cup in their past before SAF turned up.

  5. Petec, think the impersonator you are looking for may be a guy called. Paul Reid?

‘I don’t see what good an empty building does for anyone.’

The skill is in taking a building that’s no longer being used for its original purpose and adapting it for another purpose.

To demolish a Cat B listed building to replace it with a museum is taking the piss.

    ……………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

There is an huge water leak that has damaged the interior beyond repair. The building is riddled with damp and in a dreadful state, apparently.

That’s why permission has been given for demolition.

  11. Ferguson is one of the greatest managers ever. Even he said the greatest was Jock Stein. He learned so much from Jock.

Ok he had loads of money but who does not in the EPL. He built at least seven teams at that club. They have always played good football.

He has dealt with the Press as Jock would have done.

He is a genuinely good man who turns up at funerals and occasions of past friends.

It is no coincidence that Celtic were chosen so many times to for testimonials. Ok our fans and more our football but never them.

Just watched your post featuring the great Bobby Murdoch. What memories- an immaculate player, by a distance the best midfield player I saw in the Hoops. Including Paul McStay and wee Bertie. No weaknesses- if he played well we won, simple as that

Time the ‘big girl’s blouse’ removed it. In my day the physio grabbed your nose – tweaked it into place and stuck some cotton wool up your nostrils and told you to get on with it.

If you were lucky – he taped it in place (known then as cosmetic surgery). :-)
