Playing against Celtic, Fit and Proper moment ahead, crystal balls

1108

The second half last night will be remember for the fact that right back Mikael Lustig came within the width of the crossbar of scoring a hat-trick, while left back Emilio Izaguirre also hit the crossbar – and was caught offside in the centre forward position.  The movement and energy levels required for this type of performance cannot be overestimated.

Adam Matthews’ goal on Saturday, when he burst a lung to cover half the field and get on the end of a move as it developed on the opposite wing, is another example of how physically taxing playing for Celtic is right now.  And just as importantly, how taxing it is to play against them.

Motherwell competed as best they could before hitting the wall and capitulating.

Kano

I knew the minutes’ applause for Kano was coming last night, but it was a hard moment nonetheless. Sannabhoy read a letter at halftime from Martin’s wife, Carolyn, explaining the family’s appreciation for what the Celtic family did for them.

It’s appropriate for us to return our respect to Kano’s family, and to Sannabhoy and his Kano Foundation colleagues. They got the charity work ball rolling for so many of us. They gave us the opportunity to aspire to become better people.

There’s a link at the bottom of the article to sign-up for CQN11, where the work to build another school kitchen in Malawi goes on. You are part of an incredible community. Be there.

Just a brief note on Honest Dave King’s recent claims.  He will become a director of newco Rangers in the event the forthcoming EGM votes him so.  I’ve no doubt he will be able to find a NomAd to work with him, not all have the same standards, allowing the company to retain its listed status with him as a director.

It is also true that the SFA cannot stop him becoming a director.  They do not have a Fit and Proper test, they have fit and proper criteria, which directorial appointments are measured against after they are appointed.

Despite all we’ve seen in come out of Hampden over the last few years, I would be amazed if the SFA board approved a tax convict and former director of a club which broke tax law, player registration rules and went into liquidation.  It’s not even a remotely tenable suggestion.

After the event, the SFA would be in a position to penalise newco Rangers – most probably through a fine – and instruct them to dismiss King.  King, of course, has all the humility and self-awareness required to apologise and resign without a fuss.  There’s no way he would use his well-marshalled media campaign to try what Craig Whyte and Charles Green did before him – play to the gallery, blame all his ills on an ‘anti-Rangers’ conspiracy.

Note how the media campaign is rolling out King comment and press releases as definitive news, not subjective claims.  Note also that Easdale press releases are being covered by the media, but that pantomime-hate figure, Jack Irvine, is being attributed as the source.

Note that Mike Ashley and Derek Llambias are saying nothing.  They’re just going about their business.  You don’t need crystal balls to see how this one is going to end.

CQN11 St Patrick’s Day Dinner Dance is on Friday 13 March, at the Kerrydale Suite, Celtic Park. The focus of an excellent night’s entertainment will be funding the construction of a kitchen at Chibwata Primary School in Malawi, for Mary’s Meals.

  1. Hope we get Armstrong and KC stays. On Wednesday night KC didn’t look up to it. Great striker of the ball. But the rest of the team were all flying even AS and LG looking leaner and hungrier now. Buying into RD ideals now.

On JG. I also wouldn’t play him if he’s not staying no point give Specovic more game time. Pity JG could have been a great for us.

I think I’ve uncovered the reason for your mild tardiness. From BBC scotland:

A team of Scottish scientists has made light travel slower than the speed of light.

They sent photons – individual particles of light – through a special mask. It changed the photons’ shape – and slowed them to less than light speed.

The photons remained travelling at the lower speed even when they returned to free space. Photons were shown to reach the ” line” at different times

The experiment is likely to alter how science looks at light.

That’s more than enuff to frazzle my wee heid!!!

    Brilliant neebs.

    From beeb article….

Clubs are used to the odd duff signing. But Cambridge United’s acquisition of a scoreboard from Rangers in the mid-90s was up there among the duffest.

It replaced a much-loved clock in the corner between the Habbin Stand and Newmarket Road End, and worked for less than two seasons.

It is still there, gathering rust, hidden behind an advertisement hoarding.

“It just suddenly appeared,” said Dave Matthew-Jones, chair of the supporters’ group Cambridge Fans United. “It didn’t work very long.”

Taylor’s memory of the scoreboard is more succinct: “Pretty much like Rangers at the moment, it doesn’t work.”

  11. If Celtic are serious they should do everything in their power to get Amstrong.

If they don’t someone in another league where money is no object will get him and we’ll look foolish again.

United are right to hold out for the money, the boy is a player and would enhance Celtic and he’d have the all important resale value obsession built in.

Celtic and our supposed great scouting network have spent small fortunes on dud after dud in recent years who if the money had been saved we could have had Armstrong, Gauld, MacKay Steven and Robertson from United supplementing the good players we have instead of the Pukkis, Balde’s, Bangura’s and the plethora of Wingers who don’t score and don’t make goals or who are never fit.

I’m not saying there have not been success stories with the policy but it appears to have dried up and the loan moves have not worked out other than for Denayer.

We’re lucky Stokes and Griffiths have started to play well as the Wakaso, Tonev and Guidetti things have not been what we needed. Scepovic may come good but he needs games and I think he knows where the goals are unlike the aforementioned Pukki, Bade et al.

We’ve missed out on good Scottish players under our noses who we know can play in our league at worst. That needs to stop.

If Celtic think we’ll wait and then offer a lower price again when he is in the last 6 months of his current contract they might well find he is on another contract elsewhere and worth double that 3m.

Time to think big and act like the biggest club in the country.

  12. Scouting .

Elderly Inter fanatic from down the valley turned up ——–all excited . -Wants to go and see Inter in Napoli on 4th February .Doesn’t fancy going on his own .Wants to sit in the sun , have a good lunch / ” look at the most beautiful women in the world ” ( he is 84) .and then go to see his team .Doesn’t trust his knees / might need help .Asked if I would go with him —–I said yes – flights booked / staying with a guy he knew in Milan in the early 60s .

I will let you know about the women and Inter.

I think there are still some available from the club. Seems the demand is not as high from Old Firm fans as previously thought.

Those who are boycotting on the obvious principle have my high regard and my thanks.

I absolve from this scurrilous accusation those who are there to see Celtic,no matter who is playing. Many of them around.

And also your lad,who just wants to experience it. Canny blame him for that. And at 15,we all look forward to our first time!

  14. Brilliant Celtic.

AS a fundraising and tribute match takes place at Ibrox Stadium this Sunday, Celtic FC Foundation, the charitable arm of Celtic Football Club, today announced that it is to make a £10,000 donation in support of Fernando Ricksen, his family and Motor Neurone Disease Association Scotland.

The match takes place following the sad announcement in 2013 that Fernando Ricksen had been diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “We are pleased to be able to make a donation which will assist both Fernando’s family and MND Scotland.

“At Celtic, unfortunately we are all too familiar with MND and its devastating effects. Jimmy Johnstone, the man voted Celtic’s greatest ever player, fought bravely against this illness as did former player John Cushley, someone who gave so many years’ service to the Club.

“Through Celtic FC Foundation and our wider charitable work, we are also in contact with a number of supporters who are facing this disease. We have had a long association with charities which work to tackle MND and through this event we are pleased to be able to offer our support again.

“We would like also to take this opportunity to send our thoughts and best wishes to Fernando and his family.”

Tony Hamilton, Chief Executive of Celtic FC Foundation, added: “Celtic FC Foundation aims to make a positive difference in areas of Health, Equality, Learning and Poverty whenever and wherever we can be of assistance.

“Celtic has been a club for all people since its formation and an inherent charitable dimension is something which has characterised our Club from day one.

“We are delighted that today this ethos remains as strong as ever, with the Foundation raising and distributing over £10million in recent years and thousands of people receiving support through local, national and international initiatives.

“With Health being one of our key areas of activity, we are delighted to make this donation in relation to Sunday’s match.”

  16. Anyone have any links to pictures of the back page headlines with Davie moonbeams stories about supercasinos, floating pitches or any other delusions of grandeur? I’m thinking of the epic daily record / sunday mail ‘exclusives’ of days gone by.

Little project I’m working on, in it’s infancy so may come to nothing, but Google is drawing a blank.

Be back on in the afternoon, will repost this if need be, I’ve seen the pictures before so hoping someone, somewhere, has them saved.

    Much obliged.

  17. HH the Celtic foundation.

MND does not take account of the football team that the sufferer supports/plays for so neither should we.

Hopefully the donation will be taken in the spirit it was given.

It is gestures such as this that makes me proud to be a Celtic supporter.
