Playing with an eye on your next gig, bold use of Latin

845

I don’t like playing games when players have transfer or contract business swirling around the dressing room.  Give a team an excuse to underperform and they tend to grab it, so I expect a difficult challenge at Easter Road tomorrow.  If we want to maintain our unbeaten run and two month old clean sheet record we’ll need to bring our A game.

Neil Lennon’s comments at yesterday’s media conference, about potentially dropping players who plan to leave in the summer, point in this direction.  Few manage to perform with an eye on their next gig.

Well done to the new regime at Newco Rangers who used Latin in their stock market announcement yesterday.  There was no “ex-gratia” payment to resigning director, Brian Stockbridge, who instead had his contract paid up.

Paying Stockbridge in full is hardly a money saver but with him not around it will sweeten the medicine others will have to take and allow a fresh angle to be pitched to supporters at season ticket renewal time.  Let’s hope their manager sticks to his contractual guns.

Daily Record columnist, Chris Sutton, has today made the case for Neil Lennon to leave Celtic and move to England.  Nice one, Chris.  If you hand around long enough to get to see it all.

Did you think Gary would be up to scoring in CL when he signed?

Fair point but Gary Hooper was one of the top scorers in the Championship the season before he signed. I would take most of the top 5 scorers in the Championship now (Rhodes, Ings etc.). Also we were finding it harder to attract players then as we hadn’t won the league or been in the CL in 2 or 3 years. We also had very little money.

Griffiths just doesn’t make sense to me…..if he was a superstar at League One level why aren’t Wolves playing him? And he has 13 goals this season…..Callum McGregor has 11 in the same division!!

  2. If Tony Watt keeps doing what he is supposed to be doing while out on loan then he will have no problems next season, until then he will NOT be playing with the Celtic first team squad, so let him get on with it, and I wish him all the luck in the world, but he is there for a reason so he has to deal with it, honestly you’d think Neil Lennon had sent him to Devils Island, to many drama queens in here ;))

IMO,had James Forrest not been injured before today’s match,he would have been injured during it.

Hibs kicked us off the park the last time we went to Easter Rd. I doubt today will be any different.

Now,what’s the odds a red card for us?

He’s not definitely out but a doubt with a calf strain. No point taking any chances with him given his recent injury record. Place on the bench maybe?

Johansen is in the squad, would be good to see him at some point

  5. Davie Provan asked David Ginola

How close did you come to signing for Celtic?

Ginola recalls sitting in Feargus McCann’s office

pen in hand, terms agreed and the phone rang.

It was Newcastle the rest is history.

Not sure if that is a true story or not

but it is a good story.

    Very true.

And what’s the odds of the grass not been cut, or the park been rolled since they last had a home game there?

Cold, a bit blowy, but only drizzly rain. No chance of the game being postponed.

Is there any action by Celtic, management or board, which doesn’t find favour with you?

Believe it or not,we all want the best for the club, and criticism is usually well-founded and constructive.

IMO,loaning out Tony Watt is not the best use of a viable asset, particularly when we are struggling up front. But it is Neil’s decision to make,so I have to support him in it.

But even if he comes back suitably chastened and raring to go,I’ll bet you he won’t sign a new contract.

So in that respect, the move is not in the best long-term interests of the club.

  9. I joined the Celtic trust this morning and was surprised that unlike the masons you can do this online- they also seem to post all of their activity so anyone can see it, have open meetings letting anyone have their say and dont seem to stipulate the wearing of an odd uniform or the molestation of goats- apart from that it might be like the masons?

Of course there is, you can’t please everyone, criticism is here in a blog, I get that people are allowed to disagree, but god almighty it’s the CONSTANT moaning and from the same people, it’s non stop, moan moan moan, are they EVER happy, is there EVER going to be a day when they type the word Celtic and follow it up with a nice thing to say about the team the club, PL, the board? It’s constant, and it’s the GB and Celtic Trust who lead it all off, you asked me, well there you go, Neil Lennon, PL,and the Celtic Board have enough doubters in here, so I, no one else, I, back them at every opportunity, you can bet your bottom dollar on that, and if I think they are wrong and there is some thing that bothers me I go to the proper place and get answers, and it certainly isn’t the Celtic Trust, of that you can be assured.

There might be a nugget of truth in the story, but I suspect some poetic license has been applied.

Happy to accept that the analogy is far from perfect.

Nevertheless, they are a small part of a huge group who wish to look after their own in terms of a seat on the Board.Their agenda is simple.

They want power and influence in order to promote their own political preferences.

Does Ms. Findlay want a seat on the Board for herself?

    Or is that a secret?

Like you I recently joined the Trust. Very open and transparent. I’m a believer in going along and finding out for myself as opposed to sitting at home and casting unsubstantiated aspersions .

Narrow minded myopic sycophancy is prevalent from a few posters on here. As long as it’s Celtic then it must be all ok and don’t you dare say anything to the contrary.

Fair enough. You have every right to back them unquestioningly. And I agree with you that The Celtic Trust need to be seen to be less anti-board by default.

What I meant was that most of the criticism aimed at Celtic from this site is well-intentioned. Even the mineshafters amongst us only want what is best for the club. Howling down dissent is not in the best interests of Celtic FC. No-one in a position of responsibility can be expected to make the right decision all of the time.

And pointing out where errors are made is one way of helping avoid a repeat.

Criticising the club isn’t something we do for the hell of it. There are plenty out there to do that. And there are plenty of people like you who don’t criticise at all. My Dad for one.

We all want the club to succeed. Me,there are some aspects of the way we are doing that with which I disagree. But I doubt PL loses any sleep over that!!!

One thing for sure. We’ll both be supporting The Hooooops today and every day. We might disagree about the strategy, but not the big picture.

I read the Celtic Trust report and although I must confess to a dislike of the use of the word ‘Chairperson’ I otherwise found it a responsible enough document which expresses what many in the support feel with regard to the way the Board has acted in recent times towards the support.

I have also been in the company of Jeanette Findlay a couple of times and she seemed a perfectly reasonable person. What do you know about her that makes you so suspicious of her motivation?

Anyway I am away oot – as the fella says. I think we disagree on these points chum but enjoy the rest of the evening .
