Playing with an eye on your next gig, bold use of Latin

845

I don’t like playing games when players have transfer or contract business swirling around the dressing room.  Give a team an excuse to underperform and they tend to grab it, so I expect a difficult challenge at Easter Road tomorrow.  If we want to maintain our unbeaten run and two month old clean sheet record we’ll need to bring our A game.

Neil Lennon’s comments at yesterday’s media conference, about potentially dropping players who plan to leave in the summer, point in this direction.  Few manage to perform with an eye on their next gig.

Well done to the new regime at Newco Rangers who used Latin in their stock market announcement yesterday.  There was no “ex-gratia” payment to resigning director, Brian Stockbridge, who instead had his contract paid up.

Paying Stockbridge in full is hardly a money saver but with him not around it will sweeten the medicine others will have to take and allow a fresh angle to be pitched to supporters at season ticket renewal time.  Let’s hope their manager sticks to his contractual guns.

Daily Record columnist, Chris Sutton, has today made the case for Neil Lennon to leave Celtic and move to England.  Nice one, Chris.  If you hand around long enough to get to see it all.

Was at that game too…..2nd replay….Feb 1987…..1-0 Brian McClair I think…..Dens Park was freezing that night but Pittodrie was worse for the 2-2 draw on a Sunday for the first game…?That was proper cold.Think the 1st replay at Paradise was 0-0.

Was at all 3 games……..feckin freezing and pashed at every one of them.

  2. Was at Rogic’s game today.

Melbourne would have struggled to give Sevco a game today. They were appalling.

Defence was suicidal. 3 goals given away by schoolboy defensive errors.

The goalie should be charged with fraud.

Rogic was one of their better players when he came on but if he wants to go to Brazil he’ll have to do a lot, lot better. He needs to be the standout player on the park.

Del Piero was class. Even at the end of his career he was light years ahead of every other player on the park.

Perfectly true. There were plenty of chumps around CP at that time.

Biggins and Muggleton were honest pros and gave their all.

Haven`t seen the game,so thanks for the insight.

I`m confident that Rogic, given time, will prove to be an asset.

Don`t really fancy our chances in Brazil.Embarrassment is a real possibility.

I love my club too much to cause further division and I am sensitive to the political views of others who do not share my views.

Unlike the Celtic trust who don`t give a damn about the views of Celtic supporters who don`t share their political views.

It’s like people saying that they have always voted Labour but the current party doesn’t represent their views. The reason the views of the party changed is because people who wanted to change the Labour Party’s stance actually bothered to join it, attend meetings and and bring their influence to bear in the way the party developed and changed it’s policies and approach. It’s no good complaining and doing nothing about it. Get involved.

I’m sure if enough people joined the Celtic Trust who disliked their current approach, over a period of time they might be able to modify and change it. First of all they have to get off their jacksies.

  7. Celtic – Dundee late 80’s freezing wind and rain blowing in our faces for 90 minutes non stop… Then the song starts ” We’re the Celtic supporters, Freezing through and through…” Highlight of the day…

  8. ‘The Chair indicated that at a meeting between the Trust and officials from Celtic, theCEO and the then Company Secretary statedthat the Club were not aware that legislation was being planned until late summer 2011 but minutes of deliberations at Holyrood reveal that not only did Celtic officials know about the plans by at least early June, they were actively involved in supporting them.’

I am sure TD67 would have fun deconstructing this sweeping statement.

  9. Hoopydoo….

Worst soaking I ever got was a League Cup Semi at Hampdump.

Davie Robertson got sent off early and we still got beat by a Fat Salary goal to nil.

Yep,the early 90s was feckin miserable to support the Hoops.

    They don`t want transparency.

    They want power.

If they got a representative on the Board then that rep would have only one vote but would be able to voice some of the concerns which have been articulated by many fans. I don’t ever see them having real power to take over the running of the club.

i got a ticket outside the ground. drenched and we lost. bad bad night

  13. Tonydonnely I see you continue your campaign against your fellow celtic supporters. From our exchange yesterday a simple example of the duplicitous actions of our club was the nonsense around celtic saying the stadium was threatened with having its safety certificate removed because of lateral movement. When asked by supporters glasgow city council denied there was any such threat.

Celtic had been looking for a reason to attack the GB for some time. They used the Motherwell game to do stand yet no one from the GB was arrested.

So do you support the club lying to us?

I agree with your basic point about action rather than words and have in the past suggested that the C.Q.N. “pollies” should become “active.”

  16. My friends in Celtic,

    Ref : Leigh Griffiths.

The only criteria I would apply is :- Will he improve the team ? Is he better than what we have ?

To me the answer to both questions is unlikely. Yes he could do a job in Scotland, but the CL, I don’t think so.

I think frustration in the transfer front is what we are witnessing.

I used to live in Mount Vernon and we always bought our butcher meat from Lambie’s in Tollcross Road. Brilliant butchers but definitely not of a Celtic persuasion. If your Skwerr slice came from Lambie’s your in for a treat.

Cup semi final against them at Hampden mid week in the 90 s . They had Robertson sent off early Brian Oneill gave the ball away on thevhalf way line and they score . Later in the game Andrew Waddell denies us a stonewaller when ra bomber takes John Collins out soaked to thecskin and robbed as usual. HH

Bitterly cold day with the snow piled up along the running track. Snow on the terracing – this was before health n safety!

A group of very naughty Celtic ultras lit a bonfire on one of the terracings behind the goal to keep warm.

Cant even remember the score as I was suffering from hypothermia.

But why should that representative be unrepresentative of the political views of other Celtic supporters?

Surely their views should be expressed also.

Wait for it……….And let`s now hear from the representative of the fascist front for the exclusion of non-aryans from Celtic teams.

I’m not really up for a debate on the Labour Party though zi plead guilty to introducing them to the discussion. You could be right about Thatcher but I think they became unelectable after the Winter of Discontent and ,therefore, had to change. That is definitely the last I have to say about Labour.

We haven’t seen any fan representation on the Celtic Board to date (I know – they are all Celtic fans) but at times they seem to have the ability to alienate large sections of the support all by themselves.

  25. Teplice in 2004. Must have been about -10 at kick off. I was lucky and in covered end. But snow storm in 2nd half and the poor bhoys behind the goal. Was a home game for me as lived in Dresden at the time. 1.5 hrs drive over snow pass to get there

  26. Looking forward to the game today. Butcher’s teams are always difficult and it would be good for the game to see hib challenging for trophies.

Greenpinta. I agree with your post if we cannot get a striker who improves us for the CL in this window we should not panic buy but wait until the summer and try again them.We have wasted in my opinion enough money on duds. H.H.

  28. theoriginalsadiesbhoy,

I joined the trust last year, they helped me with issues relating to my Fergus era shareholding. To the point, I receive plenty of feedback and info from the Trust but I receive zero communication from the board about anything except at AGM time when they decide that they will vote down almost any suggestion that comes from any fans, be they individual or organised and we have people who then come on here talking about the Celtic Trust being masonic or some kind of secret society, what absolute arrant nonsense but sometimes you may have to get off your arse and make things happen instead of throwing around childish buzzwords about people you don’t know and have never met?
