Playing with an eye on your next gig, bold use of Latin

845

I don’t like playing games when players have transfer or contract business swirling around the dressing room.  Give a team an excuse to underperform and they tend to grab it, so I expect a difficult challenge at Easter Road tomorrow.  If we want to maintain our unbeaten run and two month old clean sheet record we’ll need to bring our A game.

Neil Lennon’s comments at yesterday’s media conference, about potentially dropping players who plan to leave in the summer, point in this direction.  Few manage to perform with an eye on their next gig.

Well done to the new regime at Newco Rangers who used Latin in their stock market announcement yesterday.  There was no “ex-gratia” payment to resigning director, Brian Stockbridge, who instead had his contract paid up.

Paying Stockbridge in full is hardly a money saver but with him not around it will sweeten the medicine others will have to take and allow a fresh angle to be pitched to supporters at season ticket renewal time.  Let’s hope their manager sticks to his contractual guns.

Daily Record columnist, Chris Sutton, has today made the case for Neil Lennon to leave Celtic and move to England.  Nice one, Chris.  If you hand around long enough to get to see it all.

Morning Bhoys. I am a bit surprised with reports that James and Adam are injured.

I was in a Glasgow snooker club on Thursday afternoon and both the Bhoys were at the next table to me and young Dylan and a couple of younger Bhoys also in playing a few games. So at this moment Dylan not in Coventry.

The 90’s were the lowest we could sink. Just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse, it somehow did!

One thing I always stand by though is not criticising Big Biggins or Muggleton. I feel quite sorry for them.

They had stupid names and were signed by a crap manager and thus have become a shorthand description for the entire car crash our club was at that time.

Biggins tried his heart out in every game (didn’t really have the ability, but that wasn’t his fault). He isn’t the worst striker I have seen play for us btw!

Muggsy didn’t do much wrong either. Having a daft name has had him painted with ignomy in our history, which probably isn’t fair.

There. I feel better now :-)

The trust are growing on me. They have annoyed me for yrs in their demands for fan representation on the board. To my mind all on board already fans but i want the most prof an best in that field on board an not the biggest fan. As this site proves there is no fan consensus. We all disagree on everything! It just wouldn’t work who would be chosen to represent cud they keep their silence what about confidentiality. Its always been a non starter but they continually harp on bout it. I never want fan representation on board as it wouldn’t work an wud weaken us. However if the trust want to be medium between fans an board then that wud work an they wud have far more purpose an be more worthwhile. In my opinion.

  13. Vanguard Pondlife incredulity at the suggestion that Stockbridge’s exit might be to appease Orcdom:

“There are already people slaughtering some of the remaining board members and one idiot in particular made the outrageous claim that Mr Stockbridge leaving is simply another cunning attempt by the board to seduce the support into buying up season tickets for next season.”

While slowly slithering towards the light and realising that the Sleekit One might not be that Super:

“At the much anticipated AGM, it was revealed that our managers’ salary was £825,858 p.a. I was staggered that this man who had proclaimed he would work for nothing, was happily taking this amount of money from our club during these difficult times. As if shamed into it, McCoist announced that he had offered to take a 50% reduction in his salary during these financially difficult times for our club. It later transpired that this wasn’t to be a cut, but merely a deferral. It also transpired that at no time was McCoist working for nothing, and for a so called Rangers man to be happily taking this amount of money from the club during its present predicament is nothing short of disgraceful.

Recent leaked emails do nothing but further convince me that McCoist is as much a drain on our resources as the people on the board who were branded spivs and thieves. This man is taking a salary which is more than many English Premiership managers are on, and we have a playing squad of 56 while playing in SPFL league 1 against part-time players. This simply is unsustainable, and in my opinion a salary of around £100,000 p.a. would be more than generous, bearing in mind our current circumstances.

While the sold out signs continue to be displayed wherever we go, it appears that we ourselves have been sold out…

Have enjoyed reading your NTV posts. Thanks for taking the time to post them. I also think you gave a very fair appraisal of Biggins and Muggleton too. Muggleton was quite a good goalie but he was with the wrong club at the wrong time. Macari was never more than a bargain basement wheeler and dealer – an Arfur Daley.

  16. I think all the talk about 5-6 million pound players was just a smokescreen.

We all know the drill…..we tried blah blah.

The truth imo, is that Leigh Griffifths was the main target all along.

Now….don’t get me wrong, that kid is a good player, however….PL does not seem to get it at all, and its annoying because the answer is simple.

If you want to do well in the CL instead of being fodder….well, im afraid you will have to buy better players Peter.

Start right now, by going out and signing some quality….Robert Snodgrass, go get him now, and stop gambling with our CL qualification chances.

You cant do it on the cheap forever.

    Just outright lies again!!!

However, I guess I should just be grateful that their refusal to report the truth contributed to Deidco being jettisoned into oblivion and will help in the same way with Sevco.

  19. Read the Celtic Trust report. Perhaps I missed something along the way, but it looked a bit short on detail – seemed to me to be a list of areas of concern but with no proposed courses of action and desired outcomes – other than to write to PL? A bit more flesh on the bones might bring more people onside. (I am not saying that I have the answers necessarily).

p.s. 2 cracking goals by Tony Watt for Lierse. And, I am gutted that Atajic has been allowed to go out on loan rather than being given a proper run of around at least 6 full matches.

Here’s hoping for a good result today. HH

No one is preventing this from happening. It seems, however, that the Celtic Trust actually have the energy and belief in what they want to achieve by actually getting off their derrieres and doing something about it. I’m not a member but I’m all for transparency between the Board and fans and if the CT can help improve this then what’s not to like.

Getting the old butterflies in my stomach as kick- off approaches. As many have pointed out Hibs kicked us off the park at Easter Road on our last visit and that was under Pat Fenlon. It’s Butcher today and he’s notorious for sending out his team to play like hammer throwers against us, so I hope our Bhoys are well well padded around their shins and ankles.

We have some big lads in our team and if Hibs don’t want to play football then I hope our players sort them out.

Skwerr sausages from the exotic location of a butchers in Tollcross Road, in Glasgow’s East End,have appeared in my fridge….courtesy of a near neighbour who was lucky enough to visit Paradise recently and brought a load home for his freezer.
