Pragmatic expectations and serial divorcees

1500

I spoke to a serial divorcee some years ago and he suggested that after one bad marriage, you’re more likely to plunge headfirst into another, then another, than your average person, despite all the warning signs.

He was driven by a need to put things right in his life.  Regretful of lost time, he wanted to get on with finding a secure, lasting, future relationship.

Parma were a tiny club for most of their existence, occupying the fourth tier of Italian football, but they rose inextricably to become one of the top clubs in Europe.  When Rangers knocked them out of the Champions League qualifiers in the 90s, they were sixth top seed in the Uefa rankings.  When the money dried up and insolvency grabbed them a few years ago it must have been hard to accept their place – a club with little substance going for it, but with fans expecting glory.

News this week that after liquidation a newco Parma would kick off at the bottom tier of the professional game in Italy is a morality tale.  Just as my pal, the divorcee, was compelled to plunge into a ‘lasting and successful’ relationship at the first opportunity, few people who pick up the pieces of insolvent football clubs seem to be blessed with pragmatic expectations.  A second, even more damaging liquidation, haunts in the shadows.

    Yes they will fail

We are still here and we are not going anywhere

    They’ve tried throughout history.

The worst example of course being the nazis.

    But most countries have tried

Norway removed all gypsy/traveller children from their families and gave them to settled folk. In order to stop gypsies from being. It failed

My ghirls at high school are really cool for being travellers

This country really is the best IMO

But obviously our right wing govt want to leave the human rights act. Will things go back to the way they were. I don’t think so personally. This is too good a country.

Its not the most shocking thing that you have posted about but theres something more evil and sinister about what happened to your people in Norway.

    Cold calculated Ethnic cleansing.

Shameless plug for my book out for download later today “When the Gorbals fought Franco” is available on Amazon from around 6 pm, don’t buy it before then as the price will come down. It tells the story of my great uncle, John Lynch, born in Derry, lived in the Gorbals and fought in Spain.

  13. Morning all.

Lashing down in Largs once more. This has been some year, weather-wise so far. June, like May, must be the wettest in over a 100 years.

Anyway, my nephew who lurks on here from time to time is coming down to sort me out with the Kodi thingy. He has got the sports stuff downloaded for himself. That’s good news. Amazing what CQN can provide.

Any good news (for us) coming out of Govan?

  15. After a great new first kit and second kit I honest do not see the benefit of a third kit.

Especially when it would appear they are trying to produce a remake of an old 2nd kit.

I would think they would have more access and potential route to market with the above 30/40 year olds and make more profit by producing some stylish and good quality leisure shirt polo shirts etc.

  16. I had a quick look online and it would there is very little casual wear or tracksuits and only cycling tops on show at present.

I can only assume they do the kit launches and later will be adding training and leisure clothing etc.

And a safari suit for Starry

  17. My friends in Celtic,

I believe that we need to think outside the box and be more innotive when it comes to promoting our game.

A few days back a poster ( apologies I can’t remember who) mentioned ladies football.

Although the WC in Canada has focused the ladies game it cannot be denied that it is becoming more popular in both participation and viewing. Even BT sport are to screen English league games.

I would like to see full integration into the Celtic family with some games being played at Parkhead prior to our league games. ( weather, ko times and pitch status being favourable ) with appropriate off field entertainiment and facilities in place.

For many families, especially with daughters this could be a major attraction and a welcome addition to the match day experience.

More focus and emphasis should be placed on getting the most out of Celtic park and Lennoxtown should concentrate on establishing our youth.

Greenpinanta the beautiful game is for all. My middle daughter was a frequent visitor to Celtic Park when we were home for the MON years. When we got back to NZ she wanted to play. I contacted the local club and they said no worries and can you coach a ghirls team. Sure. What it didn’t know was that they were playing in a boys league. Came mid table first year and then a mixed team second the year after. About a dozen teams in each league. Anyway my daughter played first 11 girls at her high school for three years. Loved going to the games , full throttle, some goals that drooped my jaw. She is at uni now and missing it. My youngest is a netballer but wanted to play ‘soccer’ this year so again enjoying going to the games. Got hammered 5-0 yesterday but if you listened to the team at half time and full time, they love the game. Huge opportunities here. Many of the so called non football nations have a head start on thus one. So great idea green piñata.

  19. I’d a like a more formal “dress” trackie if that were possible?

Something that would go with a nice pair of black slip-ons……………..

C’mon NB get the finger out!

I hope the reason we’ve not improved on a John Guidetti or a Stefan Scepovic is because we’re not looking, or at least not looking in the places we normally look. Celtic should ditch trying to sign strikers where the price tag starts and ends, in our case at £2m where you get an exotic name, and questionable ability.

The last thing we need at Celtic Park s another striker from the stinkaroo department, specialists are not found in this store, our recent record proves this, and hopefully the reason why Celtic are back in training without a new goal grabbing, gazebo giant.

Think again about your approach Celtic, take your time because our goals are spread in any case across the squad where the playing style dictates, most players picked are expected to score, and 99.9% of all named Celtic targets never sign for Celtic .

It’s a long time till the transfer window slams shut, and there are lazy ST renewals to be made, and the stimulus to create new business, will be mirrored by what Celtic express to the fans in the quality of player we buy.

For the very same reason, the plan is to hold Van dijk in contract until August that is of course, if the fabled massive bid ever materialises., by which time we’ll have money to burn, en route to five, having safely negotiated the CL qualifiers.

Neustads Braw – thanks for that – some days we just need a bit of perspective and a lot of hope.

It’s not possible in my mind that we can go into the new season’s early CL maker or breakers with one recognised striker, Leigh Griffiths and an unproven striker at our club Stefan Scepovic.

I would be surprised if someone as methodical as Ronny would contemplate this but yes no more Balde’s Bangura’s or Boerrigter’s in fact no more strikers with B.

The support needs a hero and much as Wee Leigh knocks them in I can’t say I’m confident in him leading the line alone in Europe.

Show us what we can expect under Ronny starting this window!
