Pragmatic expectations and serial divorcees

1500

I spoke to a serial divorcee some years ago and he suggested that after one bad marriage, you’re more likely to plunge headfirst into another, then another, than your average person, despite all the warning signs.

He was driven by a need to put things right in his life.  Regretful of lost time, he wanted to get on with finding a secure, lasting, future relationship.

Parma were a tiny club for most of their existence, occupying the fourth tier of Italian football, but they rose inextricably to become one of the top clubs in Europe.  When Rangers knocked them out of the Champions League qualifiers in the 90s, they were sixth top seed in the Uefa rankings.  When the money dried up and insolvency grabbed them a few years ago it must have been hard to accept their place – a club with little substance going for it, but with fans expecting glory.

News this week that after liquidation a newco Parma would kick off at the bottom tier of the professional game in Italy is a morality tale.  Just as my pal, the divorcee, was compelled to plunge into a ‘lasting and successful’ relationship at the first opportunity, few people who pick up the pieces of insolvent football clubs seem to be blessed with pragmatic expectations.  A second, even more damaging liquidation, haunts in the shadows.

Leigh, Stefan & Anto might not be the ultimate strike force in the CL, but I am confident enough you won’t get much better in the qualifiers and with Johansen, SA, Commons, GMS and Forrest backing a lone striker I am more than confident of making the group stages this season, although would be delighted with one or two additions myself

A winter shutdown for 2016/17 season in January being considered by SPFL. Are you in favour or is a summer season the answer ?

Kittoch, you can have Biggins but not the greatest living Norwegian.

I was pretty confident last year as i thought Ronny had the foundations to build on but it didnt quite work like that!

This year should be different and i am confident once again.

Ronny now has his own foundation in place and we could probably just about name the team ourselves.

We need more than what we have upfront though imo.

Id say we definitely need much more of a target man than what we have.

I think all of our strikers would benefit from playing off someone like that but its only going to be 1 starting and i dont think any of our current strikers are good enough to play there on their own.

Just my opinion of course and id love to see one of them prove me wrong.

Hows tricks cuz? Good post.Take it Breeana Celtic Taylors uni has no fitba team.

On the subject of a goalscoring , up and at them centre forward, that would be ideal for Ronnies style, and would be In the price and wage range, and if Ronnie and the 2 Johns could get him straightened out, thenI think Tony Watt might be worth considering.

    Just my thoughts

Neil Lennon wasn’t supported by his Board, they had his team hopping around wherever, and that made things very difficult.

To me, it looks obvious that Ronny Deila has been earmarked (being kinda deaf it is a Word I Love) for the Job earlier.

I am a Ronny fan but if we don’t make the group stages this season well it must be Ronny’s fault, last season was a disaster from Maribir to Warsaw but if our strikers don’t get us through the qualifiers then it is the managers fault for thinking they are adequate (I think they are good enough to get us to the party)

Just glanced at the previous post re Ebts, why has one journo never asked Artur Numan why his wages were getting halved and a Dutch international retiring at 33ish, rhetorical question as no shock jock would like the answer

The SFA allowed a new club into Scottish football without first playing for three years to demonstrate three years of good balanced accounts before being allowed into SFL League Division 3.

Sevco were allowed in with no accounts at all. Against SFA and SFL regulations.

Sevco have only published two sets of accounts in three years of operatorship and those show massive multi million pound losses outwith UEFA requirements.

The SFA are surely casting a snoot at UEFA and their financial fair play rules for the benefit of Sevco.
