Purchaser confidential deal between Green and Whyte

638

I thoroughly enjoyed Chris McLaughlin’s interview with Our Hero yesterday; there is so much to digest.  It’s tempting to explore the information that in October last year Craig Whyte informed SPL chief executive and chairman, Neil Doncaster and Ralph Topping, that Rangers were very likely to go into administration and that a CVA was likely to fail.

Was this assertion shared with other SPL board members or did Doncaster and Topping keep it to themselves as they pretended all was well while preparing to change the rules to allow a Newco access to top flight football? There is a whole ocean of duplicity here as fans were kept in the dark while being asked to accept revolutionary changes.

Unsatisfied creditors who extended credit after this date, from HMRC down, will all be fascinated by this admission. As will liquidators BDO.

Tempting thought this question is, I’ll leaving it hanging for now.  There is a more intriguing topic.

When asked how much profit he made on his Rangers venture Whyte said, “Any arrangements I made with the purchaser [Green] are confidential.”

The BBC headlines from yesterday, proclaiming that Whyte “brought Green in to buy Rangers” points to the most important matter.  While Duff and Phelps were busy using creditors money to try to sell the business, Craig Whyte realised he was the Only Game in Town, and operated a parallel sales process.  He had security over the stadium and it therefore didn’t matter who else entered the bidding for Rangers.

No matter what deal they put in front of Duff and Phelps. The Blue Knights, Bill Miller and Bill Ng would never in a position to pull a deal together as Whyte agreed a deal with Charles Green.

It doesn’t really matter if Green had any prior relationship with Whyte or if they were brought together by Whyte’s contacts in London (which both seem to agree on).  Whyte had a price to hand over his shares (likely to be £1) and his security over the stadium (this is the interesting bit) and Green met it.

The Blue Knights thought they had a deal, so did Bill Miller, but neither had the stadium.  Having secured agreement with Whyte, only Green could deliver a deal; no matter how little was on the table for creditors. Duff and Phelps subsequently accepted £5.5m for the assets of the club, the highest deliverable bid received. The only bid from the population of one who had secured use of the stadium.

Which brings us back to the heading at the top of the page, “Any arrangements I made with the purchaser are confidential.”  Agree, Craig, this is not something you want to discuss openly.

This statement came in response to Chris McLaughlin asking how much of a profit Whyte made at Rangers.  A more reserved interviewee would have dismissed the question by saying something like “No one but Duff and Phelps made money out of this one”, but our Craig was in full flow by this stage of the interview.

With a glint in his eye he confirmed a deal was done.  Forget all the adjectives you’ve heard about the man over the last year, “stupid”, “dumb”, “clown”, this clown gave Ticketus a personal guarantee for circa £24m, put the man who agreed to his terms in place, and then made a profit out of the deal.

I’ve no idea who owns the stadium (could be Green, Whyte or Whyte senior) or what consideration passed for it when Green and Whyte put pen to paper, but this is the crux of the entire deal. Did Craig Whyte secure his profit by signing over the Ibrox security for free, did he sell it to Green at an undisclosed price or does he retain an earn-out interest in the property – and, therefore, ultimately the Newco.

It remains to be seen what liquidators BDO make of the confidential deal between Green and Whyte.  Will they see the stadium asset exchange as being in the best interest of creditors or as a deal against creditors’ interests? I hear Charles Green yesterday claimed the company’s property assets were worth in the region of £80m. I’m sure HMRC were taking notes.

Is there anyone left who believes that all Craig Whyte received in exchange for passing the keys of Ibrox to Green was £1? Maybe Mr Green will be keen to explain ahead of his share issue, just to clear up where working capital is going.

There is a great Tribute Night for Pat McCluskey coming up at the Supporters’ Club on London Road next Friday, 26th October. Frank McAvennie and top comedian, Pat Rolink, are both speaking after a three course meal. Cost for the event is £40 per person. The Club holds around 200 people and I hear there are only a small number of tickets available from Pat Rolink on 07905 174275.

Kitalba – I can put my hand on my heart and say with all honesty I have never heard the Dalek term until one of them starting saying it a few months ago

I’ve read it, and quoted from it on here.

Don’t want to spoil it for you but what I found very telling was his description of having a heart attack while lying on a stretcher waiting to be taken from an ambulance into hospital with his wife and children at his side, not knowing if he would survive. This was a couple of days after the conclusion of the Dougan case but prior to him writing his judgement. It’s pretty clear that experience helped him empathise with the victims and their relatives.

    …………………………………….

Irvine Smith was scathing in his book but it spares the detail about the fact that Ranger’s fought the compensation case against them tooth and nail. Including arguing that the Lord Provost’s fund monies (Ibrox Disaster Fund) should be deducted from any award made to the next of kin of the victims.

    Dignity indeed.

  14. Rogue leader

    Also we’re not that cretinous

I’d imagine that they’d have been signing about it from the rooftops if the tragedy had befallen us

  15. On the 6th September 1941 Rangers beat Celtic 3 – 0 at Ibrox. The huns booted lumps out of us and the referee and his assistants allowed it. Celtic ‘got intae them’ too and fighting broke out around the ground. Remember this game was played at Ibrox.

As a consequence of the trouble (and the Celtic Support did get stuck in) Celtic Park was closed for a month.

In 2012 the huns take every opportunity to remind all, who will listen, that following a game between Rangers and Celtic played on On the 6th September, 1941 Celtic Park was closed for a month because the Celtic Support were heard to sing pro-nazi songs.

Make up a lie, repeat it, keep on repeating it, eventually it will be accepted into social folklore and from there… eventually… it’ll become an historical fact; unless it is contested and corrected at every opportunity.

A few more than many in England – and on shores beyond – believe that during the war years Celtic guided in the German bombers to Glasgow by leaving their floodlights on. I kid you not.

We never, ever, called them Daleks, the fact that they accuse us of doing so shows how sick of mind they really are.

Don’t let them smear our Support (and by extension – you…) by allowing them to perpetuate vile and prejudiced accusation without challenge.

  16. Kitalba – That guy leggo isn’t even a journalist anymore, it’s arguable whether he ever was one.

He’s been cast down amongst the internet bampots. His views are so strongly intertwined with his prejudices, like a tangled knot you’ll never unravel, as to make them irrelevant to any mature and reasoned discussion. Best ignored.

  17. JAVIER MASCHERANO admits Barcelona now rate on-song Celtic as their biggest Champions League group rivals.

Mascherano and his Nou Camp team-mates were stunned by the Hoops’ memorable 3-2 win over Spartak Moscow in Russia.

Its only two years since Man Utd rested a team of stars and put out a reserve side to face Rankers in a Champions league group game

Well done to NL and his team to start restoring some credibility to Scottish football

  18. Truly sickening that leggat is prepared to fabricate a story involving the people who died at ibrox for his personal vendetta against a journalist. And simultaneously trying to besmirch the reputation of Celtic.

    A pathetic sad man.

  19. Trouble with the Dalek reference is that idiots like Leggo and his targeted audience will continue to tell the lie until they believe it to be true.

I have never heard the term used by any Celtic fan and I am of the same opinion that it was created, probably not his best work IMO, by Alex T in the way Greenjedi suggests.

They, Servconians really are vile, hate filled cretins.

Anyway 31c today, lovely cooling breeze and just over 24 hours til the bhoys play again.

    Heavenly.

  20. To suggest that AT had any idea of the connection made by Leggo when the same AT had to apologise for his ignorance over the Grieg walking away gif, is an obvious piece of cognitive dissonance from a mind twisted beyond normal cognition.

The suggestion is one more from the dark recesses of the Smear Factory that Goebells himself would be proud of.

Talking of smears, what creatures leave one in their slow wake as they make their way through life?

  21. SonsOfErin:

The vast majority of huns believe that all their woes are – in part if not in whole – down to Peter Lawwell.

They are repeatedly being told that it is Peter Lawwells fault, through writings on blogs, and also through inuendo in more traditional medias.

It is not wise to ignore such fallacies and allow them to take root and grow malices.

  22. Anyone know if Paddy McCourt is fit?

He could well be starting the frame for tomorrow, given doubts over Forrest and Commons.

Personally I would wrap Sammy and Hooper in cotton wool tomorrow, but I can see Hooper defo playing 75 mins at least.

Good thing is we have options.

  23. Kitalba and others

The use of the term Dalek for Sevco fans is deeply insulting to me – as a Doctor Who fan.

In all seriousness they seem to think Dalek refers to the Ibrox disaster. I have never heard it in my life until they brought it up.

Doctor Who ended in 1989 and came back to TV in 2005. 16 years off the air when a generation of kids didn’t even see a Dalek on TV never mind anything else.

I’ve never seen Celtic fans make banners with Daleks, sing songs about Daleks or even refer to them casually as Daleks except for one guy who made a parody in 2008 which is available on youtube following their behaviour in Manchester again which had nothing to do with the Ibrox Disaster (if you watch the videos you can quite clearly see the humour – it’s Dr Who related and has Daleks screaming WE ARE THE PEEPEL etc etc). In terms of offense it would be well below the radar of the Zombie banner. The youtube video has two Daleks talking to each other but they are Rangers fans – that is it.

Alex Thomson apparently said they were screaming at him on Twitter like Daleks which if you have read any of the tweets sent to him would be a fair description. Thomson made no reference to stairs or anything like that so they are just out to get him because it reflects their mentality of attack anyone who says something they don’t like.

I have some information for him and others reading this – Daleks could hover and fly up stairs since the 1985 Revelation of the Daleks story where Davros was seen to hover and later in 1988 when a Dalek actually did move up the stairs. It was an old joke that the best way to escape Daleks was to run upstairs but that was a design flaw which technology remedied in the show to make them more frightening.

If any Celtic fans have made that joke, I’ve certainly never heard it and being a huge Doctor Who fan it is something I’d have heard if it had happened in my presence. I’d condemn it if I thought there was any truth in it but I honestly can say I’ve never heard that in my life until they brought it up.

It shows the lengths these folk will go to to attack anyone they don’t like.

Good morning Gents/ladies, it’s a long time since I posted [posted under VinBhoyTim previously] but I am a serial lurker, addicted to CQN, and once again, I’d like to thank you all for your excellent posts and information. As I said before, I’m at sea, [offshore China at the moment] and normally, this is my only way of getting proper Celtic minded views and updates of matches, etc. CQN is a lifeline for all matters Celtic to me, as our internet link via satellite is really slow [slower than dial-up internet days], so not possible for live feeds, or C67, etc.

I have a small problem and I was wondering if anyone on here could help or advise me. I was originally due home on 15th November, and before I came away on this trip, I booked for myself, my oldest daughter and oldest son to go on the Thomas Cook day-trip to Lisbon for the Benfica game on the 20th November. Unfortunately, my back-to-back has resigned from the company and I am now not going to get home till the first or second week in December [Hopefully I’ll be home in time for Moscow on 5th]. Although the booking is not yet confirmed – Thomas Cook informed me the trips wouldn’t be confirmed till after the Barcelona game, I sent an e-mail asking them if they could please change my name to my wife’s name so as she could accompany the weans on the trip in place of myself. They replied telling me that this could be done as long as she had a season card in her name and I sent them her Client Code… but she hasn’t, she uses mine to take the weans to CP [three out of the four of them have season cards] when I’m away working.

Does anybody know or can anybody think of any way around this? She’s going to go to the ticket office on Monday to try and sort it, but this seems a bit ridged to say the least! I’d be very disappointed if Celtic could not accommodate us with regards this matter, but not as disappointed as my son or daughter, who have already told all their pals that they are going to Lisbon. Any advise would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  27. Snake – Thank the Lord for you debunking the Dalek myth with cold, hard, irrefutable fact.

Somebody should point out the evolutionary progress made by Daleks to Leggo to prove how ridiculous his claims are.

Surely then he is now mocking a race who have struggled hard to overcome a disability? Surely they should be praised rather than reminded of the bad times?

    Leggo truly is scum.

    Daleks have human rights too!

No doubt you’ll asked where’s McCourt by some :-))

  29. The Battered Bunnet on

It’s just a notion, an initial instinct, but I have a feeling that the reason so many high profile ‘Rangers’ supporters – the guys who have become prominent in the past year or two – tow the latest party line, refuse to recognise their challenges publicly, ignore balance of probabilities when there is a balance to strike, and otherwise play to the crowd time and again is because….

….they’re terrified of what the crowd might do to them if they were to speak out.

Perhaps SFTB might shed some insight on this? Is it straightforward Asch conformity? Is it some sort of Third Wave syndrome? Or is it as simple as fear of the mob?

  30. Estradio @ 8:06

Remember how we lost that Xavi goal? We kicked off, and immediately passed back to Naylor. Instead of keeping possession, he just booted it as far as he could ( which is exactly what happened in the home leg as well). 15 passes later, and in less than 2 minutes, we were one down. Only 3 Celtic players had touched the ball, and it was in our net.

If we are as careless in possession on Tuesday as that WGS team, we will be creamed.

I’ll watch in hope that we learned something from that game.

    Iniquitous

  31. On the Dalek theme, if you do a search on youtube for ‘hun daleks’ you will find a series of sketches uploaded four years ago.

These feature two hun daleks having a conversation.

The language is choice but they are quite funny in parts.
