Rangers are dead. Vindication for you, for Celtic

1200

My friends in Celtic, the day has come.  Rangers are dead.  The Old Firm existed for many years but we all now know that particular duopoly was terminated years ago – on the day Murray International Holdings bankers tried to put Celtic out of business, to be precise.

Today, we stand proud and alone.

On 3 October 2008 I wrote:

“Celtic are in an exceptionally strong financial position.  They can survive the vagaries of football fortune, or economic downturn, without the threat of cutback should income dip.

Conversely, Rangers are in dire trouble.  This year will not be financially the worst Sir David Murray has bestowed on his club, but it will make for horrendous reading to any prospective buyer of the club and provide further evidence that they are hopelessly adrift of financial security.

Winning the league this season and qualifying for next season’s Champions League will not provide succour from their structural problems, it would only result in a temporary slowdown in decline.

Rangers debt has risen inextricably, and is set to continue to rise, at a time when bank facilities have become more difficult and expensive to acquire.

Should new HBOS owners, Lloyds TBS, take fright at the property-to-football conglomerate, Murray International Holdings, which includes Rangers, frankly, the consequences are so dramatic, I don’t think we should discuss them, as I have trouble sleeping when I get too excited.

We live in a time when things which simply cannot happen, happen.  When some of last year’s most credit-worthy companies in the world have gone into receivership; when one of the centuries-old pillars of the Scottish business community crumbled in days.

No company dependent on a significant increase in its debt is safe.

Rangers Football Club, 1873 – 20??”

The years since 2008 have been hard for Celtic fans.  We watched our team lose three consecutive league titles to a former club, who despite their self-evident mortal danger, continued to fund a league and Champions League challenges.

We stuck to budget and lost trophies.  This was a hard decision but it was absolutely correct.  Football regularly throws up clubs who will recklessly burn cash.  You can indulge in their lunatic ways, or sit it out, tell your fans you cannot afford to spend more, and hope that in time your judgement is proven to be right.  Today is vindication for all those hard years.

I’m not a financial analyst and never actually spend too much time reading Rangers accounts but the above synopsis was inescapably obvious – and this was years before I knew about the EBTs.  Rangers directors would have known this at the same time, if not before.  If they were blind to it, they were equally useless.  Only God above will know why they didn’t rein the horses in, lose a few leagues, but kept their football clubs in business.

The media frenzy will all be around the Myth and his group of Johnny-come-latelies. The language will all be about saving the “Rangers”. There will be no recognition that they do not exist, no recognition that the Rangers is a man who own a couple of buildings and nothing else.

It is going to take a massive effort to move the agenda back into negative territory via the EBT and BTC stories – and illegal payments to the likes of Wally and Smith. HMRC are not likely to be prosecuting anyone of note for months to come by which time everything will have been swept under the carpet re. the clubs “re-emergence” (even though a new club can’t re-emerge).

I hope the RTC insinuations that Smith was a recipient of a side letter is watertight and that Mark Daly or Jim Spence is prepared to put it out in the public domain. Smith has to be taken out of the equation or the momentum will build that all is once again well in their world.

RTC, BarcaBhoy and co. – time to deliver the nuclear winter. Do not let them crawl back,

  2. Good morning friends and a Big Happy Friday from a wet and very blustery East KIlbride. There was a good suggestion posted last evening along the lines of never referring to the other mob as anything other than ‘Newclub’.. I for one will be trying to adhere to that from Day 1.

Of course, being a Newclub will obviously mean that it’s a completely fresh start for them with absolutely no connection to that former club, Rangers, who ceased yesterday. So we’ll all have no more dislike for newclub thatn we would for say, Stirling Albion, for example. We need to be consistent in our aqpproach don’t we. ;-)

Walter Smith. Claims to have been having talks over the past few weeks with D&P. Also claims to be offering half a million more than Green.

So why was he overlooked? Either he’s at it, or D&P think he’s at it, or D&P are in cahoots with Green.

Bottom line Walter, you let the club go into liquidation with all that that entails, because you waited too long to do something about it. You legned.

The people of Gdansk have a saying: “What happens here moves the world.”

Well it did but not how the legions of Irish fans wanted after a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of world and European champions Spain sealed their elimination.

Instead it has been the fans’ passionate performances in the stands and town squares across Poland that have lit up one half of Euro 2012.

Despite the heavy defeat, supporters outnumbering the Spaniards 2-1 paid tribute in the only way they know with a rousing rendition of The Fields of Athenry. It ran from the 87th minute, through stoppage time and on for several minutes – an epic rendition by the fans.

The stunning amber PGE Arena, a 44,000 capacity stadium near Gdansk’s Solidarity Square, was overrun by Irish supporters – drowning out their opponents in the group of death.

It sits in the shadow of the shipyards where Communism first cracked and played host to a footballing superpower that outclassed Ireland on the pitch but nothing comes close to the huge travelling Irish support.

The Poles have also taken Ireland to their hearts and it was seen clearly when, after 25 minutes with the green army subdued for too long, a Polish contingent behind the Spanish goal let loose with local chant Polska, Bialoczerwoni to the tune of Go West, which has been adopted by the Irish. It ignited the ground.

    Dziekuje Polska.

  5. Who will be the first ex-RFC player to walk out for free? Who will risk the Wrath of the Hun by walking away?

Or will they be hoodwinked into hanging about to see if Wally’s gang will get control?

A couple of weeks ago the LL were in a panic that their top players could go on the cheap, now they can ALL go for free yet none of them has done so.

I’d have thought a few of them would have been long gone by now – especially the foreign contingent who don’t give a shit about the club.

    So what’s going on?

The answer to who replaced Rangers(L) I the season following their death is easy.

A Celtic under 19 team stepped in and won the third division by 37 points but were asked to leave the SFL on reapplication of the newco.

Newco lost to Elgin City in the playoff final the following season, failing to gain promotion.

  17. Caught up with the indepth? STV programme on the extinct club

Michael Kelly was a disgrace an old firm Celtic ex director who lives and exists only to see Celtic play Rankers, certainly doesnt speak for me as a Celtic fan, as Kelly stated himself its the Rankers fans he feels sorry for

STV’S star witness? the imbecile that is Gordon Smith! reducing the programme to gutter level, it was hilarious as he painted fans of other clubs as hatefilled revenge lunatics and himself as a sane neutral, that was spin taken to Keech Jackson levels, a cosy wee chat wae his pal John McKay

When are all these investigations into the debacle that was Glasgow Rangers going to conclude, clarity and transparenct thats what the legned McCoist wanted

A weekend when we can enjoy watching Charles Green defend himself against McCoist and Watties hate filled army, has Charles received Police advice on personal protection he will need it

  18. Reliable source tells me that Sevco Rangers Newco Dead Parrot FC are planning to use the following formation next season. They believe it best utilises the players they have:

while Celtic will employ a variation on 4-4-2, 4-5-1 and perhaps even 3-5-2 the newclub will be going with 0-0-0

  19. Morning,

Nice to see a rangers shareholder showing some humility… Not!

“If they put us into Division Three,

then there are going to be a lot of

other SPL clubs in big financial

trouble,” added McLeod. “But that’s up

to them. We are at the stage now

where we feel as if we should maybe

take a few others with us.”

  20. Awe_Naw_No_Annoni_Oan_Anaw_Noo on

The ongoing investigations are redundant. Rangers dont exist so the SFA can do what it likes. This is what they waited for. A get out. Same as the SPL.

Now it is my understanding that to be a member of the SPL you have to be a member of the SFA. That is Greens first hurdle. If anything is agreed then you can take it as a given that Green has been given the nod.

We are about to witness Campbell Ogilvies SFA issue a membership to a club owned by a man who took the national association to court and that is still outstanding. It is irrelavent that issue but he must fail a fit and proper persons test.

Do not be fooled into thinking it is a simple SPL vote its not. If this is what happens then a deal of SFA membership has already been done.

ok ladies and gents was out of touch yesterday due to cirxumstances. has charles green managed to purchase a stadium and training ground for £5.5m?

Does this mean hypothetically that this new club can start up with their fixed assets for this cost? I dont get it. where will hmrc look to in order to try and claw back as much of the big tax case money if they have accepted this small sum for the main assets and does this give mr green an asvantage over other clubs? i know he has to gather a team but he has gained a good quality stadium for a fraction of the price the other teams have paid. sorry to be negative it is just that I am trying to catch up and dont know whether to be delighted or worried with yesterday’s news.

I’d like to see reps from supporters groups of not just Celtic but as many clubs as possible publicly state they don’t recognize newclub having any history.

If some want to say the history of a club is in the hearts and minds of supporters then the fans of other clubs must be heard too, after all everybody else has had to make sacrifices of success in order to preserve the club they support.

Every other club should unite on this.

Morning all from gay Paree, bit of everything today: rain, sunny spells (21C max.)

Here’s a question I asked on RTC yesterday, with the replies I got.

It may interest a few on here.

    ================================

Regarding the date for LC and the Appellate panel, there was a tweet by BBCchrismclaug earlier today to the effect that Rankers have reserved the right to appeal the court ruling (which was actually in their favour) so new date can’t be set yet.

Anybody heard anything about this or possible date for the panel?

    ================================tigertim:

21 days for any appeal, I make that 19th June.

Therefore you would expect the SFA to convene a meeting of the committe on the 20th June.

They would either have to sit or the original punishment will stand, they could be seen to be pro active rather than re active.

They could be seen, would be a change.

    ================================HirsutePursuit:

I agree, the Appellate panel should reconvene within a few days of the 20th June.

Unless RFC(IA) (or the SFA) appeal Lord Glennie’s decision, the Appellate panel must reconvene. There should be no further input from either party. It is simply a reconsideration of their original ruling on RFC(IA)’s appeal.

Given the limited options available, I would imagine it will be shorter than today’s creditors’ meeting and that the outcome is just as inevitable. Suspension or expulsion from SFA membership will result in the immediate loss of entitlement to their SPL share.

No SFA membership = No SPL Share.

This might not stop a team from Glasgow, with blue shirts playing in the SPL (although it probably will) – but I don’t think it is likely to be a direct transfer from DeadRangers to PretendyRangers.

  27. So sir walter and his other knghts have put in a last minute bid to outbid the slippery yorkshireman, there are some things that just dont add up for me, which given were talking about the dead duck finance incorporation is quite apt,

how can they have a last minute bid when the bidding is over?

where have these “fine rangers men” been for the past decade whilst there previous club was dragged through the mire?

and finally didnt swalter back the blue knights?
