Rangers destroyed by SFA

503

Huge result from the SFA Judicial Panel Tribunal tonight, absolutely enormous, perhaps the biggest decision ever made in Scottish football history.  Rangers have been banned from signing players over 18-years-old, for a period of 12 months and fined £160k.

For months Scottish football has lived under some huge moral questions; would the combined forces of TV contracts, the Bank of Scotland and the formidable Rangers lobby combine to subvert the meritocratic spirit of sport and see rules written to see Rangers kept afloat.

The SFA Judicial Panel Tribunal made these questions moot.  In the event that Rangers fail to agree a CVA with creditors and emerge as a Newco, and IF that Newco is allowed to inherit the SPL share given up by Rangers, the Newco will be unable to sign any players of 18 years or older.

Although the SPL and SFA are able to transfer Rangers league share to a Newco, player employment contracts are with the current company, so players would not be contracted to any new company.  An SPL Newco would need to compete with 16 and 17-year-olds.

Conversely, there is nothing to stop a new football club, Rangers United, for example, sharing Firhill and applying to the Scottish Football League, from signing players of any age.  A new football club like this would inherit no financial or football punishment from Rangers FC.  Anyone aspiring to fill the gap left by Rangers would do well to navigate their plans in this direction.

In fact, scrub that first sentence, this is the biggest decision ever made in Scottish football history, no perhaps about it.

001 enjoy the green brigade. I took a whole squad of my girls and neices and nephew to two games and we were just along from the action. We all wanted to be part of it , the heart and soul of Celtic. Have a good one mate and enjoy being home.

Make the most of saying a last goodbye to the buns bhoys.

  4. Top of the morning to you all from a dry and dull Fife.

Nothing dull about the latest move by the SFA.

Just when we think the Rangers saga has nothing left to give—it gives a-plenty.

Paul rightly points out the difficulties that Rangers face if there is no CVA and a Newco emerges. If said Newco inherits the SPL place of Rangers, said Newco would be unable to sign any players over 18. This would be a problem for any Newco.

But what about the problem of the fines of £200k for Craigy bhoy and £160k for RFCIA?

The club fine might just be the last straw for D & P who seem to be getting pissed off with the hassle. Even with the money they are coining in they might have a poisoned chalice with an administration that the world is watching. Might they just pull the plug and use the SFA sanctions as an excuse that will take the heat off them?

Then there is the fine and ban on Craigy-boy. He may says it doesn’t bother him, but a beleaguered owner of the majority of Ranger’s shares—who has already been demonized by the MSM—might not be the easiest man to deal with for any new owner.

Throw into this mix the emergence from the shadows of billionaire Jim McColl who is non-committal about his backing of the Blue Knights and the scenario has endless possibilities.

It is symptomatic of how biased and corrupt Scottish football has been over the years that the first time the SFA act as a regulatory authority should do, most of us are looking to see what the catch is!

  7. merseycelt lmfao as the big house door slams shut on

Good morning everyone. So looking forward to browsing the internet today looking for different takes on the death of der hun.

I was trying to work out why the SFA had suddenly turned on their beloved club, then it came to me:

Rangers were charged with 6 breaches…for breaching rule 66 – bringing the game into disrepute.

    6 breaches of Rule 66.

It all makes sense now…666, the sign of the anti-christ!

On realising this, the (dis)honest brokers at the SFA surely had no choice but to severely punish these sons of satan devil worshipers.

In a good Christian (proddy) country like Scotland, what other option did they have?

Like many other doubting tims, I have become so accustomed to feeling cheated that I’ve been waiting for the negative spin about the SFA finally manning up.

Haven’t read any yet except for the possibility of reducing punishment on appeal. Surely not! What would be the point in the draconian stance just to meekly withdraw?

From his slightly out-of-kilter confident stance over the weekend, it’s fairly evident that our man, Paul67, knew!

The only downsides to all of this are:

The seats and toilets at Celtic Park will take a pasting on Sunday from angry orcs and, after the game, same neanderthals will be looking for real life timmies to (literally) absorb their hurt.

Take care in and around Glasgow at the weekend, fholks!

    HH

  9. I had to laugh at this bit from Clark of D & P:-

“During this hearing, the club produced compelling evidence from a number of sources that following his takeover Craig Whyte ran the club in a thoroughly unaccountable manner, rather than adhering to a long-established and proper form of corporate governance.”

Long established and proper corporate governance you say Mr Clark?

  10. Good morning CQNers,

TT sorry to read about Tony, my sincere condolences, may he rest in peace

Although I’m pleased to read of the SFA sanctions on Rangers I won’t celebrate just yet.

Some who have a much better understanding of these things than I have alluded to a power-play between the SFA and the SPL as the reason for this bold move by the SFA. On the surface this does indeed look like a bold move but I’ll wait a little longer to see if they and the SPL are equally resolute in pursuing Murray and the Ranger’s hierarchy on matter of the EBT’s, double registrations and financial mismanagement.

Maybe, just maybe HRMC will do the dirty work for them and institute criminal proceedings against the real culprits following the FTT. Now, that would be some cause for celebration.

  11. From Garngad to Croy I am Neil Lennon. on

This move by the SFA reminds me of an old programme ‘Call my Bluff’ . I can just see Stewart Regan sitting on the Panel and revealing a ‘Bluff’ card at the end !

This is part of a plan !

  12. merseycelt lmfao as the big house door slams shut on

It’s the lead story on both R5 headlines and sport news.

Even well known denier and hun apologist Forsyth is talking about the end of 140 years of unbroken existence.

Is that Roddy Forsyth, the 140 denier? You’re really giving him it tight, merseycelt!

    It’s a happy thought.

  15. tomthelennytim on

    TinyTim – sincere condolences mate.

So Rangers have been forced to play their youth team on the nights ours wins the double. How apt.

Just read Paul McConville’s blog saying that if wee CW (no more GEF fro me) doesn’t pay his fines within 30 days the SFA can deduct the money from source. I.e. from Rangers.

I wonder if he’ll pay it?

Hehehe – stupid, walking towards the light Huns.

  16. dear HMRC

please take yer time, big man

  18. Good morning my friends from a gloriously bright and very cheery looking EK.

Was at the U19 game last night and that, coupled with the subsequent news, means that the future’s bright, the future’s green and white.

  19. TinyTim ,

Condolences to you and your family. I know you’ll bethe rock that they need at this time.

    Rest in peace Tony. YNWA

  20. Silver City Neil Lennon on

Are Rangers due any participation fees from the SFA? The ruling body could hold out on the full amount. If the SPL can also impose fines then this could be a mechanism for holding back money to compensate teams owed by Rangers.

  21. Good morning CQN.

Story of the day has to be Airdrie United getting a wee bonus from Celtic. Fair play to them.

Reminds me about an entirely different club, with a similar name. Airdrieonians they were called. They don’t exist any more. They were struggling badly when David Murray killed them stone dead a few years ago.

  22. Hope this whole thing drags on for another while..Think this is the part were people grab what they can get and run..and the rattle snakes turn on each other..did you know that snakes expand thier bodies when they are getting ready to eat a large prey..now we know that ‘Fat Sally’ was preparing to eat a giraffe..

  23. tomthelennytim on

The judgement was passed down by an independent panel. Am I right in thinking Regan introduced this new measure? If so, we may have underestimated him and his knowledge about which changes needed to be made to achieve fairness and impartiality within the SFA.

The dual contracts issue will see the end of Ogilvie.

  25. fergus slayed the blues on

    Sorry Paul

But I can’t share your optimism regarding the SFA fines and sanctions .

CW has already that they can sing for the cash and he was not going to be hanging around ,so no punishment at all that I see .

ragers Interesting that they put in the any player over the age of 18 line ,is this normal practice or was it just a scenario that was bound to happen anyway .as for the fines ,I think they already owe the SFA money so ,see CW for the same answer .

The interesting one for me is the money owed to D Utd for the SC that charge was not proven ,how could it be not proven ,either they paid them or they didn’t ,this charge would have led to a ban in next seasons SC surely which IMO would have been the only charge to have any effect .

I really hope you are correct regarding the current players not being able to play but something is niggling me regards this ,everyone was amazed that they did not get players of the wage bill when they first took over ,could this this why ?.

Also the fact that the Yanks bid is still on the table is worrying because after his rant on Friday he should have pulled out .

  26. I know this aint going to happen, but wouldn’t it be nice if the Hun1873’s last ever game was against the Celtic U-19’s?
