Rangers on SFA warpath since Fit and Proper enquiry

1203

Rangers manager, Ally McCoist, appears intent on testing the SFA following his outburst yesterday.  According to McCoist the Association “effectively called” Sone Aluko “a cheat and a liar”.  Chairmen of the disciplinary tribunal, former referee Jim McCluskey, had his judgement called into question by McCoist, who said, “The meeting was chaired by a former referee and I have to say his decision making hasn’t improved any since he stopped refereeing.”

This is a new tone from the Rangers manager, who never spoke in these terms about the SFA before they decided to investigate Rangers owner Craig Whyte’s suitability as a fit and proper person to be involved in the game.  Despite yesterday’s punishment, Rangers remain Scotland’s most influential club by the length of the Queen’s highway.  Sabre rattling from Ibrox cannot be dismissed by the Association, who, I am led to believe, will find their investigation into Whyte thwarted.

McCoist escaped SFA punishment for his inflammatory comments to Neil Lennon at Celtic Park in March. It remains to be seen if this new outburst establishes a new method of inappropriate behaviour without consequence. Shauny Aluko will surely not thank his manager for the “cheat and a liar” association. Words like those tend to follow a player.

  1. Interesting article from hearts fans chief stating they had a meeting with the FOCUS polic unit.

Informed him the unit was taking a step back and adopting a less ‘in your face policy’ for now and will only react where fans persist in violent, sectarian or offensive behaviour.

I thought the low key policing around the Green Brigade was due to a new match commander, it appears the decision has been made at a political level to be low profile until the new legislation is pushed through.

He had a meeting as hearts fans warned about their conduct at Celtic Park tomorrow. They are the most deplorable mob, after the bares, we have to suffer a visit from.

    Paul67,

it will be interesting to see what action, if any of course, the SFA take against McCoist for throwing his dummy oot the pram.

This could be a watershed in the “evolution” of the SFA under Regan. Will they have the bottle to take on the Tax dodgers, or will they revert to type???

Wonder who would want to thwart the SFA in their investigation too……….and why???

Hmmm as i believe a certain someone has been to post :-)

This flurry of hyperactivity from plod has been embarrassing for the SNP because it has highlighted the fact that there’s already legislation on the book to deal with sectarian and racist behaviour at the football.

I suspect that’s why plod have been told to wind their necks in for the meantime.

I take it in the event of them going into admin before a payment is made to their former director, they won’t have to pay the full amount?

Easy to avoid court if you don’t intend to pay the out of court settlement.

  8. Read this without laughing. The old system? We know why rangers had no complaints, as for acting like a ‘Big boy’, Aye right Sally…

Ally McCoist believes the new Scottish FA’s disciplinary system needs to be reviewed.

The Rangers boss reacted angrily to Thursday’s decision by the fast-track tribunal to uphold Sone Aluko’s two match suspension for simulation.

The panel, chaired by former top-flight referee Jim McCluskey, deemed that Aluko tried to gain an advantage by diving to gain a penalty in last weekend’s 2-1 victory over Dunfermline.

The Ibrox boss said: “I think it needs to be looked at again. I don’t know if the old system was fairer or better.

“I just think we should maybe have a look at it again. There is definite room for improvement.”

McCoist went on to clarify that he does not believe there is an agenda against Rangers from within the Scottish FA and declined to comment further on his previous statement.

“I just felt what was said had to be said,” he added. “We are big boys and we move on.”

  11. the long wait is over on

Had to laugh when McCoist gave a ringing endorsement of Aluko not being a cheat and a liar when he’s been his player for a whole, err , month.

Perhaps he ought to have said that he wasn’t a cheat at Aberdeen.

What’s more I think Ally needs his reading and visual skills tested.

Not only did the “smoking gun” photo of Martin Hardie pushing Aluko show nothing of the sort Ally seems not to have seen Aluko’s own admission that “I’m not one who normally dives…”

Can only be interpreted as “… but I do sometimes”

  12. CELTIC face another wait to discover if they will be punished by Uefa over allegations of “illicit chanting”.

The governing body were set to hear the case against them this morning.

But they then announced that a decision will not be communicated to the Parkhead club until next week due to the volume of cases being heard at their HQ in Nyon today.

“There are so many cases on today’s agenda that it takes a long time, hence all decisions will be communicated only next week,” said a Uefa spokesman.

Uefa told Celtic in November that the organisation’s control and disciplinary body would consider a charge for an incident of an unsporting nature, namely “illicit chanting”.

The charge relates to an allegation made by Strathclyde Police that a section of the club’s support sang “offensive songs” during Celtic’s Europa League match against Rennes on November 3.

Celtic are likely to face a fine and warning over their future conduct if they are punished.

Meantime, Neil Lennon is eyeing a loan move for Fulham defender Rafik Halliche after the Algerian international starred in a bounce game.

The 25-year-old impressed against a Hibs XI, but returned to London with his future still in doubt.

Celtic’s interest in Halliche was revealed by SportTimes on Wednesday, and a loan from January until the end of the season is believed to be the Parkhead club’s preferred option.

The out-of-favour player could then be snapped up in a cut-price £1million deal.

Lennon has already agreed a deal for right-back Mikael Lustig, but is keen to further strengthen his defensive options ahead of the SPL title-run in. Meanwhile Beram Kayal’s uncle, Hamoudi Kayal, believes the Parkhead midfielder is using Celtic as a stepping stone to the English Premier League.

The Israeli recently signed a new bumper deal that ties him to Celtic until the summer of 2015, but he has continually been linked with a move away.

Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish has been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old and Kayal’s uncle reckons it is only a matter of time before his nephew heads south.

Hamoudi Kayal said: “These rumours about Dalglish wanting Beram motivate him to play better.

“It is no secret that Beram sees Celtic as a stepping stone to one of the big clubs in England.”

No one in officialdom has called the player a cheat or a liar but we can say he is a diver and that is now undeniable officially

All this bluster from Showbiz Sally is pure theatre and a welcome distraction from main issues facing RFC

  16. Paul67,

I too was astounded of forehead when I read Alistair’s comments yesterday. I thought the panel had found him guilty of taking a wee dive to win a penalty and no more, but now the words “cheat” and “liar” will forever be associated with Aluko in my mind. Comical Ali strikes again.

Also, I though the panel were meant to be anonymous. How come Jim McCluskey’s name leaked out?

  17. Whyte’s bark worse than his bite…

Rangers FC have agreed to settle a £300,000 compensation claim for damages brought by the football club’s former finance director.

Donald McIntyre initiated legal proceedings against the Ibrox club after owner Craig Whyte took over in May.

Mr McIntyre and former chief executive Martin Bain had a total of £780,000 of Rangers’ assets frozen as they raised actions against the club.

On Friday, Mr McIntyre’s counsel, Jonathan Brown, told Lord Hodge at the Court of Session in Edinburgh: “I am pleased to say parties have reached, somewhat surprisingly, an agreement.”

At an earlier court hearing, Lord Hodge arrested £300,000 of assets at Ibrox for Mr McIntyre’s claim where the former director’s lawyers had set out his contractual entitlements and made a prima facie case in favour of a claim for damage to his reputation.

The terms of the settlement of the action were not disclosed after the brief hearing and Mr McIntyre, who was in court, declined to comment afterwards.

Mr Brown asked the judge for a continuation in the action and explained: “There are certain documentary requirements of a settlement of this nature that have to be thrashed out. It is just not feasible to get that document worked out this morning.”

The judge agreed to a continuation for a week but said that if the parties lodged a document settling the action ahead of it the hearing would be discharged.

Lord Hodge was told in October that chartered accountant Mr McIntyre was “kept on the hook” following his five-month suspension at Rangers after the club was taken over by venture capitalist Craig Whyte from Sir David Murray.

He resigned as a director after treating his contract as having been repudiated and raised a damages action. His contract had provided for a £120,000 a year salary plus bonuses and other provisions.

During the previous hearing at which Rangers were not represented the court heard that it was Mr McIntyre’s position that there was not and never had been a basis for his suspension and it was maintained that it had not carried out disciplinary procedures in his case.

His counsel at that hearing, Stuart Buchanan, said: “This is a professional man who has been suspended as finance director who has made every effort to co-operate with Mr Whyte and every effort has been rebuffed.” He said he had been kept hanging for five months waiting for some sort of progress to be made to clear his name.

Mr Buchanan added: “What is important to Mr McIntyre is the question of his reputation and his maintaining his professional status.” The counsel said the only communication, “if it could be called that”, was through press reports that Mr McIntyre had picked up while suspended.

The Ibrox club is also being sued by its former chief executive, Martin Bain, who has raised a claim for £1.3m alleging that Rangers repudiated his contract of employment.

Lord Hodge had already ruled in the arrestment proceedings brought by Mr Bain that there was “a real and substantial risk” of insolvency at Rangers if they lost an appeal against a £49m tax and penalties bill owed to HM Revenue and Customs. The tax case is scheduled for more hearings in Edinburgh next month.

In his first TV interview since taking over the club, Mr Whyte told STV News the club suspended Mr McIntyre and Mr Bain as they were being “investigated”.

He added: “We will fight the court cases. These are people who have taken a lot of money out of Rangers over the years and maybe haven’t done the best of jobs in running the business. And I think they have a cheek in saying some of the things they say, in suing Rangers for even more money.”

    Yup.

In these islands it only seems to be the Eurosceptics Tories, UKIP, and SF who understand just how dangerous the EU is and how unwise we would be to submit to further concentration of power in such an anti-democratic structure that is so openly hostile to national determination.

Seriously though, I do hope this rips the Tory party in two, you may differ in you’re opinion though :>)

If anything, Dave’s stock among rank and file Tories and his backbenchers is probably higher today than it has been since the election.

James Forrest has suggested that he would be interested in playing for Team GB at the Olympics, if selected.

The inclusion of a British football team at next year’s Olympic games has been the subject of some controversy, with the Scottish Football Association reluctant to endorse the side for fear of compromising their own independent status.

However, the Celtic winger said that he would be willing to make himself available if he were selected.

The newly crowned young player of the month said : “Team GB looks promising.

“There’s a lot of really good players to be mentioned with. Any Scottish player picked would have to consider it.”

The 20-year-old capped a fine individual and collective month at Celtic by winning the young player of the month award, and now hopes the club can put their early problems behind them.

“Both Rangers and Celtic will have their difficult patches through the season,” he said. “We had ours early.”

The winger is also wary of facing a Hearts side that could be low on confidence after going a second month without full pay.

“We know that Hearts are a good team and they beat us 2 – 0 last time. But I don’t think it (wage delay) will be an issue. “
