Relax and you’re finished, Belfast awash with Seville spirit

655

The day after the opening Champions League qualifier of the season can get a bit tasty on the blog but business has been pedestrian since last night’s professional performance by the men in hoops.  If you wanted to be pushy, you could point to a couple of glimpses of goal which fell Cliftonville’s way as a result of Celtic defenders being dragged out of position, but that’s about the measure of an unfamiliar defence at any time.

Congratulations to Georgios Samaras, who scored in Celtic’s first five European away games last season and obliged again yesterday.  A remarkable record for a player who is never employed as a penalty box striker.

It would also be tardy not to congratulate Celtic and Cliftonville supporters on their exemplary behaviour throughout the day.  After recent disturbances in Belfast there were fears that a group of travelling Celtic supporters could find trouble in the city but the casual observer could be forgiven if he thought we were in Seville again.

Maybe Belfast council should invite us over every July to spread a bit of cheer. We do football very well, in all respects.

Neil Lennon can now kick back and relax with a formality of a second and the next round not for another…. 12 days!!  Maybe not.  12 days is not a lot of time to do anything in football, so every day, including match day against Cliftonville, will need to be meticulously planned to ensure we are ready to face an opponent who could well be midseason. Relax, and you’re finished in this business.

Best of luck with that tomorrow. Trying to get my mate to quit as well. You’d think after getting an arterial graft he would be motivated to stop.

    Terrible addiction.

Thanks. I’m in determined mood. Blood pressure is through the roof, so no point in denying its gotta be done.

Could have picked a better weekend right enough. Had 2 bets on the golf. Jimenez at 66/1, and he started on fire, but faded somewhat. My other? Zak J @ 110/1. I’ll be on a 200 carton come Sunday:-)

Thanks lads. Appreciate the support. Yep, if anyone wants to join me in quitting, go for it. Just gotta break the habits, after a meal, first thing in morning etc. I’m , as I said, in determined mood this time.

Actually, it does make you feel weak minded when you can’t quit. I’m gonna give it everything tomorrow. Off to haydock….no photo finishes I hope ;-).

If you’re lurking – spot on!

Fiorentina stick it to Juventus and sell Jovetic to Man City for 30K Euros.

  7. Celtic as i expected won in a canter last night and Georgios did his European thing by scoring a peach of a goal. People talk about the need to sign a creative midfielder, Kris Commons is that guy and on his game he reminds me of Johnny Giles. Great to see the fans mingling just like at big GAA games.

I noticed young Tony Watt is starting to bulk up and has filled out considerably over the summer.

I am so glad I never started smoking ….I suppose I had to leave something out :-))

  11. Not a smoker myself, but know from close experience that the hatred can be your strongest weapon. Failing that, think of it as a benefit, not something you are giving up. All of which is easy for me, I know!

Bummer. Sounds daft, but stock up on grapefruit juice. Keeps your mouth clean and gives you vitamin c which you will need.

    Best of luck mate.

Vogue, my nag ( syndicate) runs Tuesday. Will be in touch nearer the time. Been off the track for a year, so may need the run, but, she is running very well at home and flying the hurdles. Long story but she’s gonna be a big price.

  19. Been absent re the blog past few days, but did I see a Q&A ( Columba Club ) coming soon, is it this week, or am I rang again as her inside would say.
