Respectfully disagree, Neil

907

I like Neil Lennon.  If Neil Lennon is talking about football, I shut up and listen.  But I respectfully disagree on other subjects.  If the last three years have taught us anything it’s that Celtic don’t need oldco or newco Rangers.  Unequivocally, Celtic Park is quieter since Rangers liquidated, the level of competition we previously had added many to the gates, none of us feel the anxiety of genuine sporting challenge, but so what?

If Celtic sell 40,000 instead of 50,000 season tickets are we mortally wounded?  The accounts would suggest otherwise.  Does it mean we cannot compete in Europe?  I refer to Neil’s record.  Does it mean we cannot attract quality players?  Well, it means we will not be able to attract some players, but I’m more than happy with the calibre of players we’ve recruited at the moment.  Good riddance to the parts of Celtic that went out the door when Rangers were flushed down the Liquidation Lavvy.

I’m going to cut Neil some slack.  I’ve been among Rangers fans and been generous enough to acknowledge income will rise at Celtic if newco ever reach the top flight.  It costs nothing to be magnanimous.

What we do need is competition, the like of which Aberdeen have given us in the league this season and they and Dundee United may provide next season, if current trends continue.    Congratulations are due to Hearts, who won the Championship before the clocks went forward, an incredible display of dominance, but as our two cup wins against them this season (3-0, 0-4) proves, they are miles away from providing the level of competition we see from Aberdeen.

Don’t have time to get dragged into a larger debate at the moment, but whenever Scottish football next turns its mind to strategic development, how to bolster Aberdeen and United should be top of the agenda.  I enjoyed our four games against United this month and the recent league game against Aberdeen.  More of them would be welcome.

We have a league split at the moment, where the top six hive off to play for the title, but it comes with only five games to play.  An earlier split, allowing us more games against those at the top, while creating more opportunity for teams at the bottom to pick up points from their peers, makes more sense.  Especially if more commercial income could be shared with the likes of Aberdeen and United.

Have you ever walked up Ben Nevis?  Will you ever do so?  It’s a big task if you are starting from scratch.  When is it safe, what do you wear, what if something goes wrong, how long will it take, what about nourishment along the way?

The Ben Nevis Huddle delivers much of what you need on a plate.  The Foundation have it all in hand.  You get to walk up the mountain with a couple of hundred other Celts.  They let you know what you need to know, check the weather for you and generally look out for things.  They have left no one on the mountain.  Yet.

What’s more, you get to do it in the name of Celtic FC Foundation, for our work with autism, downs, the homeless and destitute, those marginalised from our society, and those living in third world poverty.

It’s not the kind of thing you can sign up for the week before, the Foundation have lots to prep you for, so go sign up now.

  1. Official Statement from Sevconia:

We the Sevco board wish it to be known that we are deeply upset by all those nasty people out there who keep referring to us as “huns”.

This term is highly offensive to us and all our faithful gullibles.

The correct term is THE huns.

Now can we please just get on with stiffing our creditors without all these distractions….?

  2. The issue with the media is that we’ll never sink them. One thing the rise of blogs has done is perhaps make us think we are more numerous and concerned about these issues than we really are.

Many of us don’t buy the papers and they carry on regardless. A total boycott from all Celtic leaning readers that still buy or click, I suspect wouldn’t have the impact required to make them stop. They may in fact ramp it up in order to gain readers from the other side.

So what position does that leave us in? The club might bar them, that leaves them able to write what they will, and provided it’s legal, with impunity. Stop ad spend? That might impact them to an extent but that might hit us in the pocket in other ways.

Is there a long game here, where the support are united enough that the club say “We’re getting out of this cesspit, but we need to start at the bottom of the English set-up” and the fans rally to the cause? (I severely doubt that, just putting it out there)

  3. Huns they were, Huns they are, Huns they shall remain.

    That’s the way it is.

I will always call peepul like that huns.

    Who knows Jim, honestly?

I do think that to some extent we need to pick and choose our battles but this is one we need to fight.

I’ll repeat, though it’s frequently ignored, the board have done some really great work but their their lack of fight regarding ‘our corner’ has been extremely disappointing in recent years.

  5. Oh I will complain till I get answers, and that won’t be for two weeks, but what I won’t do is blame PL and the CFC Board, complaining is every man’s right, but to blame some one who hasent even been involved is stupid, you would think even a school teacher would get that.?

I wonder who ties his laces in the morning?

No weeminger. Our board know that we aren’t going to England. Why should we take the place of an English side? Hun arrogance.

There is a lot of bitterness on this blog. Labour could have helped challenge the bigotry decades ago but they obviously had other things to do.

  9. Racist Scotland eh!

Now for those who believe that PL has no place in this fight. Is he not the chief executive of celtic? Doesn’t he have a role to play in defending his staff and the supporters against racism?

  10. JJ.

Calling out the sfa on the lack of charges on all sevconian matters when we r charged with the slightest thing. As mentioned earlier something needs done regarding a boycott of the semi final. Would make a. Statement. I’m sure Celtic fans would stick together. Fcuk the back of the bus.

Show how the SFA are behaving towards us;fight the charges, question their basis, ridicule their agenda.

Call into question their entire fitness for office based on their treatment of us and of others. Comparisons may be odious, but the comparison of their dealings with us and with the huns are more odious still.

  14. Have decided to include the following in future posts ..

    “The Huns are deid”

If we all did this, it might make an interesting story when 250 of us are in the dock at the same time !

  15. As the SFA and their attempt to justify their existence…

“You can shout what you want as long as we can’t do anything about it, ANYTHING.” said an official SFA spokesman.

Leigh Griffiths found out that a pub can be full of Hibs fans giving it laldy about the Jambos, but he will be the only one brought to court over it.

John Guidetti found out that what would just be football banter in the pub and at work, becomes offensive if you are actually the only one filmed doing it, even if you clearly think that it is only a joke.

In The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, in fact the rest of the world – it is quite acceptable to give your rivals a hard time if they are in difficulty, indeed, banter is how the rest of the world would describe it (in any team sport). The SFA, who could not schedule a last eight replay game of their one and only tournament on a night when it could be televised, have decided that their judicial panel must look into this disgraceful behavior by a Celtic player.

Context is everything – I hear them say, Guidetti needs to recognize his position etc etc.

I say to the SFA, context IS everything and YOU need to remember your position.

It’s often easy to see why some players arrive at Celtic as paid employees, but leave as diehard fans of our club because they have been exposed to the double standards environment in which we operate, just to survive.

Im sure we can agree….that the anti-Celtic agenda needs to be challenged.

That’s what makes me angry, the fact that Celtic and Celtic supporters are under attack from a corrupt SFA, and Scottish Media.

We should be challenging this…..and so should the Celtic board.

There are some perfect nutters in the world.

One of the benefits of the internet is that it gives us a chance to peek at them from a safe distance.

NB Just ‘cos it’s on the ‘net doesn’t make it true, or even valid. That said, just because it’s written by a nutter, doesn’t make it untrue or invalid.

One way in which the club could and maybe should handle this situation is to tell the SFA that we as a club and John Guidetti as a player will not be attending their ludicrous kangaroo court.

So far this season we have had the unprecedented circumstance of an orchestrated SKY TV witch hunt against Derk Boeriggter at St Johnstone resulting in a ban, followed up with the outrageous ban on Tonev for alleged racism. Add to this, the farcical events in the first Dundee Utd cup tie. At some point, someone at the club has to say enough and it is time for shareholders and supporters to say enough.

I mean enough of the charlatans who purport to run the game in Scotland, it is broken beyond repair and needs urgent fixing (metaphorically speaking), no tinkering around the edges. We are the biggest and most powerful club in the country and it is time for our power brokers to come out and call these clowns out, Reagan, Doncaster, Ogilvie and Bryson, taxis for all, clear your desks and here’s a cab voucher. That’s for starters, a 52 seater for the rest of these imposters, clear the decks, start afresh. It’s the only way.

Call their bluff Celtic, what can they do? Throw us out? Not likely. Go for the jugular!
