Rodgers changes made the difference

43

At halftime last night, we were still confident of the win, despite the fact that St Johnstone had limited Celtic to very few good chances (Scott Sinclair’s header the exception).  What was more of a concern was the frequency with which we will face the team from Perth over a 10-day period.  We face them away from home in the league on Sunday, then the triple treble goes on the line six days later against the same side.

After the game, Brendan Rodgers changed positioning of the wingers at the break and the impact was immediate.  The win was deserved on the performance during the last 45 minutes, but still, it took two exceptional finishes to get us there.  St Johnstone did not attempt to attack Celtic all night.  If they play just as deep on Sunday, we may need more of the same from Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie.

Anyway, you are not hear to ponder the happenings of last night, it is the 31st of January and your eyes are on the horizon.  What will your Celtic look like for the rest of the season?  A bit of work to do on the right back position, I hear.  We’ll know soon enough.

think we’re all much more relaxed (well not the guy behind me last night, was on SB’s back all night, started screaming at that 88th minute pass to Forrest and im sure someone slapped him down when he realised it was a brammer).

just wish we would up the tempo in the first half, get our goals and then the team can settle a bit more

    Cheers hope you’re well.

He seems to go through phases where he screws the nut and then before too long reverts to type. Going into a high pressure game he’s not exactly one you’d hang your hat on as a reliable leader.

That said will be interesting to see where he ends up next season. The Fulham option maybe not so appealing now.

  3. Now that I’ve thawed oot (-4.5 when I got back to Milton Of Campsie last night) here are my thoughts on the game.

Firstly, P67, I’m glad that you remained confident we would win. There was a fair bit of concern around me when the ref blew for HT!

Fair play to Brendan though. He has clearly done a great job with improving the mentality of the players. They never appear concerned at the lack of chances created and stick to their task really well.

From my vantage point in 405 I can confirm that PC Lustig patrolled his beat very effectively, with no sign that those pencil thin legs are giving up anytime soon.

Finally, my pre match pint was disrupted owing to nerves at anticipation of what was clearly going to be a must win game. Hopefully, we will kick on from here now and surely, given the gulf in quality between us and the rest, the six point margin will only increase.

MOTM Kris Ajer (defensively AND offensively).

  4. I like Ajmer think he will be a great player, if we stop the injuries this squad will walk the league.
