Rosenborg or Valur, if Celtic progress in Champions League

231

If Celtic overcome Armenian champions Alashkert in the Champions League first qualifying round, they will face either Icelanders, Valur, or our old pals, Rosenborg, from Norway.  The Norwegians and Celtic will be overwhelming favourites to progress from the opening round.

Rosenborg gave Celtic a fright a year ago when they took a 0-0 draw from Celtic Park in the Champions League third qualification round.  A James Forrest goal settled the return in Celtic’s favour.

Rosenborg went on to eliminate Ajax from the Europa League, winning home and away, before finishing third in their Europa League group behind Zenit St Petersburg and Real Sociedad.  Norwegian teams play through the summer, so Rosenborg have played 27 games since their winter recess.  This will be a stiff test for Celtic, should the first round go to form.

  1. Good evening all, must say I am really enjoying the WC so far in comparison to 2014. I am not finding the VAR intrusive at all and look forward to the day when it is forced upon the cheating SFA. I would go even further and allow managers 3 calls per game for incidents anywhere on the field of play. That would send the cheats into a frenzy!

Jamesgang – last rites for CQN? As a long time lurker and v occasional poster, you’ve knocked me out of my post season stupor! Hope you’re wrong – you were one of the 1st people to welcome me to CQN long time ago – a place of warmth, learning, laughter, the odd flounce, but most of all Celtic! Hail! Hail! And long may it continue!

  8. Let The People Sing

Then let me be one of the first to welcome you again!

It can be a magical place. I’ve certainly met so many magical people through it.

I too hope I’m wrong. Very wrong!

Remember the good ole days when people had the decency to flounce before they left and before that to threaten to flounce and prior to that they would announce that they were going to annouce a forthcoming threat of flouncing if things didnt change.

Now they just sneak off like little Sneaky MacSneakyPants

Well I tell you one thing I am in the ” I’ll never leave ” Clique.

The number of posters on CQN who hurl personal abuse around is relatively small , but the number of reasonable posters/lurkers who are put off by this is much larger. I’ve noticed a marked change in tone since I first came on to the blog many years ago…..It was during Tony Mowbray’s tenure, when I think we were more united in outrage against the campaign of ‘honest mistakes’.

  13. Pebble in the pond time.

Squad management — need to up a gear.

Need to fill the loan roster ASAP.

Last season’s trio have all moved on in different ways.

The squad is one player down — two out / one in — and £5mill out of pocket.

Consequently A loan signing or two would be a great start.

We know the positions we have to fill so that should provide a focus and an impetus going forward.

Then comes the JMcG angle — £3mill down and another couple in add ons should get the deal done — please don’t get fancy and link it to SA going the other way. We are not that good.

Main thing for me is that if you don’t move forward you stagnate.

Last season we had peak BR 1.5 with the TFOD2 thumping and the SCF and the wonder goal at the end. Within less than 3 months we were on our erse with JF filling a jersey at CF and a CB pairing that could not get on the park due to a range of ailments.

Please not again — BR 3.0 needs to get off to a flying start.

    Hrvatski …

as you know, I am a bit of a numpty when it comes to computer stuff…..

years ago, I set up a facebook account to keep in touch with my niece who was away at school….

at some point, I tried to change something about my facebook page, but somehow (because I’m a computer numpty) opening up a new, second facebook page in my own name ….

after that, I kept getting notices from me (my second facebook page) asking me if I (my first facebok page) wanted to be friends!

naturally, I said no! but every month I would get an email from me asking if I wanted to be my friend! used to drive me up the bloody wall!

Took me about three years to figure out how to cancel the second me.

Funny, now I kind of miss me.

The fact the old blogs are at the side and they are 1000s strong and the blogs these days are in there 100s, JamesGang does have a very serious point.

What about the old Cqn summer reading list.

    Anyone reading anything good

Any recommendations for the beach..Not that I will be getting to the beach this year. The old leopard print thong is staying in the wardrobe for another while

Now if the thoughts of that last sentence dont kill off CQN nothing will

  18. With the parking restrictions coming into place I experimented on Sunday by cycling from Bishopbriggs to Celtic Park which is about 5 miles to see if this was a viable way to get to matches in decent weather.

    In theory…yes.

    In practice….unlikely due to traffic.

Looks like taking the car to Springburn and train to Duke Street. One train delay and kick off could be missed.

    That’s interesting…

With Lewis Morgan signed, Christie coming back and last Season Liam Henderson departed*, the conventional wisdom was, there was no place for Scott…

I’ve always thought there was a player there… if Brendan and his coaches do too, maybe he’ll get a chance and they can work their magic…

What I’ve always found is that the people whose posts wind me up tend to post quite frequently.

Anyway, for summer reading it’s a bit heavyish but Tim Shipman’s ‘All out War’ is a great chronicle of the Brexit debacle.

  23. Fundamentally CQN is a blog. A blog where we a talk Celtic ,and any topics the posters choose

The fact that many persons have met up and became friends is secondary ( however welcome) to the original concept.

Let’s welcome all newcomers who may choose to participate. And let’s welcome back those who have sinned

Well on behalf of CQN, I can report that I carried out slightly more research than Darren Cooney* on behalf of the R**ord Online, into Alashkert, and can avail my readers of the good news that the surface of the Alashkert Stadium is grass. The club play in yellow shirts, black shorts and yellow socks. Away kit is all white.

The team have played eight Champions League Qualifiers to date, only losing twice. Their record includes creditable draws against Dinamo Tbilisi at home and BATE Borisov away last season.

I am nervous about Facebook in particular.

Today my business had a cyber attack from a range of China based attackers. Our system security measures prevented access. As you know we hold sensitive personal information and penetration would have been a major problem for us.

I am amazed at what people post publicly on Facebook and similar sites.

  29. Sipsini, absolutely and it will only happen if the SFA clean up their act and start acting like an organisation which exists to benefit all members.

I was at a meeting in Salsburgh last year with the fabulous Paul Larkin who really was a treasure trove on the beginnings of Masonic influence in the SFA, I believe the origins were in Carluke. On a pro rata basis he told me that 1% of Scotland were Masons and 60% of Refs were! That shocked me to the core and saddened me greatly. I don’t believe I have Paul’s figures wrong but stand to be corrected as I had a few sherberts by that time.
