Rosenborg or Valur, if Celtic progress in Champions League

231

If Celtic overcome Armenian champions Alashkert in the Champions League first qualifying round, they will face either Icelanders, Valur, or our old pals, Rosenborg, from Norway.  The Norwegians and Celtic will be overwhelming favourites to progress from the opening round.

Rosenborg gave Celtic a fright a year ago when they took a 0-0 draw from Celtic Park in the Champions League third qualification round.  A James Forrest goal settled the return in Celtic’s favour.

Rosenborg went on to eliminate Ajax from the Europa League, winning home and away, before finishing third in their Europa League group behind Zenit St Petersburg and Real Sociedad.  Norwegian teams play through the summer, so Rosenborg have played 27 games since their winter recess.  This will be a stiff test for Celtic, should the first round go to form.

  1. Melbourne Mick on

Hello again all you young rebels.

Finally feel able to get my head together and make a post.

These Celtic Sundays with the young bhoys down the rebel peninsula

are getting harder for my auld bones to recover from.

Maybe sweating like Pavarotti in a cake shop with our young team at

training last night oozed the last dregs of Guinness out my pores, but

never mind i’ll just replace my fluid levels with a wee visit to the fridge.

Reading that young Michael Francis O’Halleron has joined up with

Melbourne City, wonder if he’ll join us down at our CSC for a sing song.

Methinks he’ll get a good talking to for his wayward ways and i know

just the man to do it 8-)))))

The greatest trick the devil ever played was supposedly to fool us into thinking he didn’t exist? Moi? I think it was to persuade so many that there’s never enough to go around and the poor are the cause of poverty.

Nowhere is this more apparent than in America’s forgotten white poor.

    Hence trump.

Hence Hitler. Hence putin. Hence farage. Hence Foster.

You west Brit toffs are far jess susceptible to fascism’s siren call! ?

  14. I just popped in to stir the pot.

It’s so long I had trouble remembering my login details.

Close season is a chance for us all to recover from the double treble.

With the absence of real hard news, as opposed to fake news, emanating from Celtic Park there’s little worthy of discussion.

The state of the Gullibillies is always worth a wee titter.

The World Cup isn’t doing anything for me.

What I have seen so far has been disappointing, especially England’s last minute goal.

I was recently thinking about the excitement of the young Pele in Sweden, the first time I was aware of the brilliant Brazilians. Pele, Garrincha, Viva, Zito flickered across the 12 inch black and white screen and inspired us all to run out in the rain and fall over the ball trying to dribble.

(I may have made an error spelling some of the names. Age doesn’t come alone.)

Their reputation was enhanced during the 1970 Mexico finals when we watched in color.

Today we have sterile, defensive football where, granted well coached and disciplined defenses, negate the better skilled creative teams.

I give you Iceland as exhibit 1.

I can see this all season from the SPFL teams trying to smother Celtic, aided and abetted by incompetent, at best, officials.

Where am I going with this? God knows.

I can’t wait to see Celtic in action, but until then it’s back to growing my tomato plants, speculating on the reasons for Bitcoin fluctuations, turning my deaf ear to the wife’s conversations on kitchen improvements and staying out of the blazing sun.

    Roll on June 27th.

GG, this is my first World Cup living in the US. The US commentators do talk rubbish. I still can’t get the 6, for 6 yard box etc.

Derek Rae was commentating at the weekend with a particularly annoying American female

BTW I agree about Iceland. Whilst a romantic notion of a small country their football is terrible to watch.

  18. Ciaran’s Dad

What I’ve watched has been mainly on UK channels, BBC ITV as I use IPTV.

I’m beyond noticing the US commentary quirks like “the endline” and many others.

Maybe that’s why I try to incorporate words like shy and bye during live updates.

I am surprised that there is so much coverage given that we didn’t qualify.

I’m still focused on our return to real football.

Good morning from a wet but brightening Dalmuir. Don’t do twitter or facebook, only social media for me is CQN. Think we are suffering from close season syndrome. Wish the posters I loved reading would return. Too many to mention, unfortunately.
