Rugby Park surfaces again

147

If you are feeling a bit anxious today but you’re not sure why, suppressed memories of Rugby Park could be filtering through your subconscious.  After 13 undefeated visits to Kilmarnock in the 8 years to 2018, Celtic have lost two of our three subsequent visits.  The only win came courtesy of a memorable last minute Scott Brown strike.

Much has changed in the 11 months since that win, including both team’s managers, but the plastic surface that Brendan Rodgers’ side found to challenging remains, a consideration for Neil Lennon tonight.

New Kilmarnock manager, Alex Dyer, watched his team beat Queens Park 6-0 in the Scottish Cup on Saturday, but his side’s league form is dreadful.  They played six league games in December without scoring a goal and earning only a single point.  If you thought Celtic needed the winter break, speak to a Kilmarnock fan.

Results, of course, do not tell the whole story.  Killie are not losing goals, in that December run only Livingston scored more than one against them.  At Ibrox, they held on until late in the game and gave the home team a fright.  They have kept 10 clean sheets in 13 home games since losing to Newco on the opening day of the season.  Tonight will be a real challenge.

    No-one would celebrate the demise of P.L. more than the hun and his fellow travellers in the Jock Press. Accompanied by the naive Tim .

    =======================================================

    To be fair though why would we let the huns or the Scottish MSM set the agenda for us? They ignored all evidence in front of them before Rangers were liquidated.

    Their reaction if Lawwell was to lose his job would be irrelevant, a bit like their celebrating the temporary fall of Celtics share price last week.

    If there are serious questions to be answered by those in power at Celtic then they should be addressed and the smirks of a few huns should not let them off the hook. If you think thats a reason to let it go then thats what I’d call naive.

    So you believe that it is OK for a CEO to lie to shareholders? Interesting

    ==================================================================

    Aye. The old ” you`re saying ” tactic.

    You`ve just accused our CEO of lying.

    Give me proof. Not rumour . Not innuendo . Not ” inside sources say ” . Not ” allegedly “.

    I will celebrate the day that Lawwell leaves much more than what Sevco fans will.

  4. Quality signings or loans in this window generally come at the end of it, indeed the last few hours. Quality players, not top quality, always wait to see what offers they have and Celtic are invariably not top of their list. It’s a hard sell and only becomes realistic once the options for the player start to dissipate. Celtic, I would asssume are pro-active at the moment, but these decisions are not soley for Celtic, or, only about money, but more about the agents & players personal analysis of where they are in their careers. Quality will come, but, as usual, it will be on the last day por cierto

    ======

    That is for Peter Lawwell to explain. It is simply not credible and would be bordering on total negligence not to have been involved, but the 5 Way Agreement final draft was attached to an email from Neil Doncaster dated 26 July 2012 to then SPL Board members including Celtic Director Eric Riley and to Peter Lawwell. No reply or challenge by next day would be taken as agreement, so even if at that late stage the contents of the attachment were not known, simply by not opening it Celtic gave the SPL their approval to its contents”.

    So basically it is down to 2 things utter and total negligence (a case for dismissal) or he has wilfully mislead the Shareholders ‘ a striking off’ offense. What was it Pete?

    This is not a matter of ” them ” setting the agenda. Its a matter of ” them ” having the same agenda as some of our support.

    Just caught your reply…

    Seriously, if our CEO has serious questions to answer to **Celtic** fans and shareholders, why are we giving a damn what the huns think?!

    Celtic would not implode, they’d replace him.

    If its a painful truth that we won’t like the answers then we must deal with it regardless of the action.

    Otherwise we’re the same as them in 2011 – fingers in ears…

  8. If we don’t win tonight I don’t think we will win the League. Not because we would lose 2 or 3 points but because we need to go there and show we can perform and overcome the challenges that an away game on a plastic surface against a defensive opponent will present. There is no scope for dropping 7-10 points on plastic this season. We must win.

  9. Hope we play better than we did on Saturday, and the SFA don’t feature, shame about the continuing injury woes,

    As I said on last thread, Kilmarnock at home against Motherwell were hopeless when I was at that game in December, I’d be extremely disappointed if we don’t win fairly comfortably tonight.

    Experienced CF , CH. If manager doesn’t rate Taylor then same at LB. And a RW to pressure JF. They have had 5 months to look for players. They should have been ready for first game after break.

    Sevco sites hate Lawwell as they partially blame him for the new club starting in the 4th tier.

    Some mentalist posters even blamed him for the death of their old club.

    The truth of the matter gradually leaking out, especially with him pushing for the old club and Celtic to get a move to England, portrays Lawwell almost as the guy who tried to save them.

    Ok

    But why PL.? He`s the Board gopher.

    Do you think that the Board are unaware of this issue ?

    Is it possible that PL has done and is doing precisely what the Board has instructed him to do ?

    And is it possible that the Board know better what is in the long term interests of Celtic F.C. than does the average Tim on the terracing ? Particularly those with an ulterior motive and agenda.

    Like the silly wee entryists of the G.B.whom P.L.has bent over backwards to accommodate .

    Beggars belief . Celtic supporters whose intention is to damage Celtic.

    That may well be true , but if it is , then did he take these actions contrary to the instructions of the Board ?

    Well. What do you think ?

    Nah. P.L. is the convenient scapegoat for ” Tims with an agenda ” , still smarting over the global rejection of their political preference which they seek to impose on Celtic. VIz. The Trust .

    Another nice bit of deflection but I don’t think it’ll work.

    Thanks for your reply but don’t we train on a similar surface every day?

    A lot of players now are brought through the system on these pitches.

    We have better players, if we get the ball down and play to our strengths I can see a comfortable victory.

    We need a comfortable victory to show we aren’t going anywhere, we’re staying on top and collecting our 9th league title in a row.
