Austria Wien have played three league games this season, won one, drew one, lost one. Scored six conceded eight. Stuffed 5-1 by Salzburg two weeks ago. They have only had to play one round of Champions League qualifiers so far, which they won 1-0 on aggregate against the Icelandic champions-cum-day-job-professionals. Send them over, please, Uefa.
Ludogorets Razgrad, from Bulgaria, knocked Dinamo Zagreb out of the Champions League qualifiers last season before going down to Slovan Bratislava in the play-off round. They’ve won two, lost one, of their three league games this season. Beat Partizan Belgrade home and away in last round, beat Slovan Bratislava on aggregate in round before that. They also have to play their home game for the next round at an alternate venue to due to a date clash with a concert. Happy to take this lot.
Legia Warsaw, won all three league games this season, scoring 12, conceding one. Eliminated Molde, after drawing both games, in last round, took care of The New Saints (Wales) home and away in earlier round. Would be a great European tie though not sure if Zbyszek can arrange the result for us.
Maribor, from Slovenia, have won all three league games this season, scored 11, conceded two. Eliminated APOEL Nicosia after two draws in last round. APOEL got to the last eight of the Champions League in 2012, so this team are no pushover. Maribor also have the distinction of being the last team to knock Rangers out of Europe. Ever!
Shakhtyor Karaganda, 12 points off the pace after 22 games in Kazakhstan. Beat Albanians, Korce, in last round and Bate Borisov (who recorded Champions League wins against Bayern Munich and Lille in 2012) in the earlier round. The travel would be an issue; Karaganda is farther east that eastern Afghanistan. If I can paraphrase an Ibrox legend, define Europe. The fact they are midseason and, like Celtic, they’ve won through two rounds already, makes this a less attractive tie, but they are surely not a Champions League team.
Preferences: Shakhtyor Karaganda are the easiest possible opponents but a trip to Austria or Bulgaria would be best.
Would rather avoid: Legia will be the most difficult draw. Maribor will be a similar challenge as Elfsborg.
Lots more to blog about: last night’s performance, Kelvin, Honest Dave King… maybe later.

What a difference the Champions route in the CL makes compared to non Champions. Tomorrow unseeded PSV could face Arsenal, Lyon, Milan, Zenit or Schalke

21:26 on 8 August, 2013I think James Forrest would make a great centre forward. Thoughts?
You need an element of bravery to play as a striker.

Hows them Nags treating ya
Poacher,
My view is that if the GB aren’t willing to give up a tiny thing like lateral movement for supporting the club they love, then I will have lost the great respect I have for them.
If the GB are suspicious of Celtic’s motives, then call their bluff.
If some other issue then comes up, then we will all know that they just want rid of the GB full stop. I seriously don’t think that this is the majority view on the board.
no apologists

…………..
That’s a post and a half, where did all the info come from if you don’t mind, I wasn’t aware that the GB told JPT in advance that they were going to do some lateral movement?

Now that Dolph’s given me courage, I too thought our CBs played well last night, including Efe – yes, Bangura played well, but Ambrose handled him the right way (most of the time).
There are certain players who just fall into a pit of fan fury – poor Efe looks destined to be one of them, most unjustifiably imo.
Lincolnshire Poacher and Clashcitybhoy.
I am with you too.
I am 71 and have supported Celtic all my life
I was at Brockville for the Charlie Tully 2 corner kicks goal and was at the Clinftonville game last week, (working Saturday) and will be at Celtic Park as long as it is possible.
and that means with or without the Green Brigade.
.Love their music and singing, but their continued presence at games is not conditional on my support.

I agree, I’d readily give that up if I was calling the shots.
I honestly believe that is not the problem and there is some silly games being played by the board and replicated by the GB who smell a rat, someone who has ratted on them, and therefore IMO not a friend of the Celtic support, it’s the GB now and who’s going to be next.
I’ve lost my trust I’m the Celtic board, there was a time when I argued in support of them.

Mhan, you were reading my mind. I grabbed the night-shift pages to read on the train to work, which is in Liverpool. I had just been reading your post when it was time to change trains.
A part of the network, the ‘loop’, goes under the Mersey, through four stations in the city centre, and back under the river to the Wirral side. The ‘loop’ is currently the subject of engineering work, which means we have to get off at one of the four city-centre stations and walk, walk would you believe, to another to make our connections.
Well, to cut a long story short, I have been walking on one station to get some kilometres in my legs and in my boots in preparation for walking to Santiago de Compostela this autumn. I leave on September 24.
As is often the case, although I was dreading this long morning walk, it is proving to be one of the most enjoyable parts of my day. It takes me along the old dock road, northwards towards Sandhills, if you know it or want to look on a map.
Unfortunately, many of the amazing buildings, tobacco warehouses and whatnot, in this part of Liverpool are run down and awaiting an alternative use. The waterfront in the very centre of the city is exceptionally attractive now, but walk 300 metres north and you’re back in the land of dereliction, one dock after another completely disused and abandoned, with the land beyond the wall and the dock gates overgrown with weeds and currently being grazed on by Canada geese.
I have been doing this walk all summer. Today I looked up at one point and saw, for the first time, to my shame, an amazing plaque on the wall, put there in 2000 to mark the 150th anniversary of An Gorta Mór. I tweeted about it as soon as I got to work, but I was keen to tell you about it, following your post. I showed the Irish people in the office. Tears were shed.
It was a real heart-stopper. Right there in the middle of nowhere, this message asking us to remember the 1.3 million that they estimate came through those now dilapidated dock gates to flee the famine and make a new life. Without any doubt, some of those 1.3 million made their way north to Glasgow and built Celtic for us, your people and my people. Not everyone came through Liverpool, of course, but 1.3 million is an astonishing figure. Utterly astonishing.
So, amigo, you are 100% correct. There is a common denominator. And here is the photo of it that I took. But just think. Liverpool got the 1.3 million coming through, but we got Celtic. And sometimes we worry about missing out on a signing or two. Look what Liverpool missed out on.
Thank you for a great post.

Just watched a great film ….Highwaymen…..Sky
CQN is fast becoming a sanctimonious moan fest. I feel sorry for Paul in many ways.
For those who grandly proclaim they are not going back, or will only go away, or won’t renew etcetc, get a f*cking grip and grow up.
Imagine you couldn’t go. Were deprived the luxury of that choice through ill health or other factors. How you would love to go to see just one more game, but you couldn’t.
Think on that before continuing the blog posturing abouth the board, Green Brigade, spending,, blah blah bastard blah.
Think what it’s like to just enjoy the experience of being able to go and see Celtic. An experience denied to many of us.
Personally, I have had enough of this shit to last me a long time. CQN simply makes me unhappy on a regular basis now. It once was a place of education and humour. It’s now full of self importance, anger and aggression.
Time to take a break for me.

Yes doing ok,
Galway was good to me
Made a few quid today ,had a small double on Johnny Murtaghs 2 winners at leopardstown (12/1 and 10/1) backed a couple of Hannons winners today
Agree Sky Lantern was a big disappointment
If you have Twists number and/or he has yours ask him to pass on mine to you and I will text you a few losers!!!!
Been given these two tomorrow
Gran Canaria Queen last race Haydock (13/8 fav expected to win) and in the 5.35 at Tipperary a horse called Abstraction which is 10/1,fella i know was given it last week at Galway
Best of luck
Ps the double was unlucky last Friday
I hardly think James Forrest is a coward.
He goes back for more no matter how many times he has been booted around the pitch.

Absolutely spot on, again…
Back to basics i agree with everything you say about James Forrest I would rather have Watt or McGeoch every day Forrest cant cross cant pass and is a coward regardless of what some people are saying He has been in team for season and half and his good games can be counted on one hand He is imho another Jamie Smith He has had numerous attempts at crossing and in vast majority doesnt get past 6yd line
He is young but without real skill and bravery aka Maloney and McGeady he will fade away I do believe our manager has blind spot were he is concerned I await for him to prove me wrong and i would be delighted to eat humble pie but cant see him at Celtic in 3 years time
Vmhan,
Possibly.
I’m no great supporter of our board either but really want to believe that they have Celtic’s best interests at heart. But every now and then, they do something that seems to be completely at odds to what I believe Celtic should be.
DD’s recent garbage regarding the huns “great history and support” and how he cant wait till they cheat their way back to playing us again is an example.
This guy is completely out of touch with the Celtic support.

It’s the bad language on here that gets me now
