Secret meetings and sensationalist news

205

The headlines screamed today of secret meetings between Sevco owner, Charles Green, and SPL chairmen, as Green attempted to convince them to change direction and vote Sevco into the SPL.  Jim Spence reported exactly the same on the BBC at the weekend, crucially adding how little impact the pleas had and that the SPL vote was certain to go against Sevco.

‘News’ that three clubs were prepared to back Green is just another way of reporting that at least eight clubs will vote against.  A suggestion (which came from Kilmarnock) that SPL clubs vote in secret ballot instead of an open show of hands is laughable and will be dismissed.

Tomorrow’s SPL meeting will be a lot less significant than today’s Scottish Football League meeting.  More on this later.

On the whole I have agreed with your posts over the years. I think you are way wrong this time around. I dont think the other clubs would have been as vociferous in their opposition to a parachute if Celtic had made a statement to that fact. Aligning with Celtic in Scotland is not a vote winner.

From Brian Quinn getting irritated by Martin O´Neill on the phone over budgets around the time of the Juninhio EBT to his appointment to the UEFA . the financial board last week, the removal of Smith and Peat and Dallas at the SFA while meekly accepting Campbell Ogilvie procession while allowing Sir Moonbeams enough time to commit financial suicide I think our board has played a blinder.

Giving the clubs more money, not less, to invest in improvements on/around the park – would ipso facto create a better product, more appealing to spectators and sponsors alike – speculate to accumulate.

And Sky in not the only show in town. Football CEOs on big money should, once this marketable product has been cleaned up and shown to be true to its Corinthian ethos, earn their paychecks by courting other sources of marketing and sponsorship.

For the life of me I still can’t understand why there are votes at all, SFL or SPL clubs.

    The rules are clear.

Spartans are in a much more prepared state for direct entry to the SFL than Sevco. They have accounts, a squad, an asbestos-free ground, have not taken the SFA to court recently and are not claiming the football heritage of a football club that played ineligible players for more than a decade, thereby cheating everyone at home and in Europe.

Is there to be a vote on Spartans coming into the league set-up? No. So why is there a vote on Sevco? How has it come to this?

Seems to me that we have the next 2 weeks to clean up the game and ensure that the rules are correctly applied.

The vacum of leadership from the SFA and SPL is truly shocking and the quality and lack of professional stds, exemplified by the document released last week for dicussion with the SFL, which is an embarassment in extremis.

Now is the time for some leadership from the blazers and the only guy that can provide this is Regan. Doncaster is toast , Regan may join him soon if he does not stand up to the plate. Unless, CO is feeding Regan ‘secrets’ about Dignity to save his own skin then the timing is right for CO to walk and to let someone else oversee the merger of the leagues…. Regan can start to clean out the stables ……..

It seems almost inevitable that SFA office bear(er)s colluded to keep the Dignity show on the road for years and this will come out , so best to get a move on and re-shape the organisation now, and get those individuals responsible out of the SFA now.
