Sectarian abuse from visiting Aberdeen fans

191

Being away from it for two years probably sensitised me.  It’s been that long since I’ve been forced to listen to thousands of people chant sectarian abuse in unison.  Aberdeen fans pointed at us, singing that Jimmy Savile, the sex offender, was “One of your own”.  Savile was a Catholic, Aberdeen fans used this to tenuously link to Celtic fans, showing as little understanding of modern Celtic as they have of modern ethical standards.  It was an open and shut sectarian act.

The offence took place immediately below the police observation area and would have been caught on CCTV.  Every offender will be clearly visible.  This is unacceptable and it must be investigated by the police.  Any failure to act will only affirm the behaviour.  No one should be subject to criminality like this while attending a football game in Scotland.

  1. Nothing will happen as usual. The establishment will be too busy working out how to help the Edinburgh Huns beat us on Thursday than worrying about “Banter” like this.

  2. Who is the target of a hun song at Livvi yesterday?

I hear they hit a new low but don’t know what it was.

No need to let me know if that just gives it oxygen….

  3. Like every team we play against and every ref we get and now the fans from other teams. We are an easy target for them all and our board do and say nothing.

We end up a bunch of teeth grinding frustrated people with keyboards and nothing changes.

  4. It will be ignored, those monitoring it will be tapping their feet to the odious chant and hardly noticing that it’s part of their remit. The board will do nothing, sneering down the noses at what the hoi poloi get up to outside the posh heated seats.

    Rinse and repeat.

  5. In my opinion and from any I have encountered The Police have zero time for Celtic or its support, think shit on a shoe and thats what they think of the club and its fans, riddled with prejudice and back up each other, this in my opinion is instituitional from top to bottom, Catholics who get on in it cow tow and play along.

  6. Was sitting close to The Kano Foundation, half way between the Green Brigade and the Aberdeen support. 150 young kids. I suspect the Saville reference will have largely gone over their heads. What won’t have was the continued chanting and pointing across of ‘peado’ throughout the match…

The police observation room are there hoping to catch Celtic fans reacting to such provocation from the morons who occupy the away end ……

How many of the scum have been filmed and easily identified been locked up in all the time the police have been there …..

The police should look into it…ahem ,and if your waiting on our board speaking up in our favour ……you’ve not been watching pal .

Hope the family are well ….

Thanks for the reply, Jimmy must have been a player and a half in his pomp. Beating King Kenny’s goal scoring record say’s it all.

  9. On the subject of Clancy, the assault on Tony Ralston that did not result even in a yellow card, would have been a red card if a Celtic player had done anything similar. That’s apart from the Aberdeen penalty for what was literally a dive. When will the Board say or do anything?

Truly dreadful behaviour by the police. Had that happened anywhere in England, for example, it would have been headline news in the Popular Press,

  12. brilliant piece of work.

Wouldn’t it be great to identify the people in this famous Oscar Marzaroli Hampden image (and maybe thereafter identify which game it was taken at?). This section of the crowd was mainly from Rutherglen. Here’s a start…

  14. A public Thank You to ACGR for saving me from a very troublesome journey, owing to train cancellations, back to Arbroath from Celtic Park on Sunday.

  15. `van mounted pavement and injured a guide dog type thing.`

Very apt example considering how much the police miss when Sevco fans are involved.

Should be unbelievable behaviour by the police, but unfortunately is anything but. In a sense it is a pity that the fines seem to have been paid – challenging them and going to court would have had the greater chance of bringing this out in public and if the establishment doubled down and sided with plod then no doubt the fans would then quickly get the resultant costs paid.

This is the same police force that last season escorted a bunch of racist yobs through the city centre as they sang the Famine Song! And that was hardly unbelievable either.

  17. Unlike in Glasgow, Edinburgh or Dundee there is no alternative team in Aberdeen for those people who do not follow a royalist agenda. Among the big cities it is unique. The royals bestowed bountiful honours upon and gave great credibilty to Savile. Maybe a few professors at Aberdeen University could join up the dots but I am not holding my breath.

100% agree Paul. When can we expect a statement from the board calling this out?

    No? Didn’t think so…

  19. at the agm the celtic chairman stated that there was nothing we could do about the referees. this was a mistake and will only encourage them to ramp up the cheating.

  20. onenightinlisbon on

The board are actively turning themselves against the support with every move they make. They appear untouchable. The appointment of Higgins, should it happen, will surely prove to be the last straw for the supporters.

  21. How much of the refereeing performance is down to biased skullduggery and how much of it is down to pure and utter incompetence ?

As Madden proves time and again, he exports his utter incompetence to the international scene time and again.

Personally I think both are in play.

Doesn’t matter what the board do, people will still buy season books provided the team on the park are half way decent.

Don’t agree with you on this. Quelle surprise?

  25. I watched one of the very good “AwayDays” vlogs on youtube yesterday from Celtic Park. The English kid that does them was full of praise for Celtic but you can see the provocative and aggressive nature of the Aberdeen support from where he is filming. As usual the Police let them vent their spleen and it was a Celtic supporter who had to challenge the abusers in the face of police inaction. Sounds familiar? He was duly lifted. Only after that did the police begin ejecting their troublemakers.

I would need to be at matches at Parkhead to see the full picture of what is going on and I live abroad but there is strong evidence of the silent malice of the boys in blue. The near fatal crush ON OUR HOME GROUND with no rival fans involved was a wake up call. Not that it was widely and seriously reported by the MSM. The people in that crush were bafly shaken by the incident. Is that maybe why there is such strong and united opposition headed by the Celtic Trust to the appointment of the new safety controller. This civil battle is more important than winning any cup. They have a game plan but we need to use our superiority in numbers to denounce their aggressive/passive strategies and fight back against their quest to criminalise us.
